Just finished this. At first I thought it was a masterpiece, but then I started to realize why it's not as highly regarded as the PS1 trilogy.
The sheer number of times the game expects you to backtrack is insane, it's like a parody of Resident Evil. They toned down the gore significantly, you can't even decapitate zombies. Steve is the worst character in the franchise. The new enemy types are obnoxious. And let's not even talk about the awful boss fights.
Still, it has the best controls in fixed-camera RE. There's a decent amount of non-linear exploration. Lots of clever moments. Chris's route is tense, has a nice sense of continuity, and has mostly new areas to explore. Despite doing away with pre-rendered backgrounds, the graphics have held up nicely.
Oh and I forgot to mention the story is really dumb overall, especially the Wesker scenes. Apparently those were added in later versions? Extremely silly and they don't even go anywhere. Felt like it was building up to a boss fight but nope you just get a ridiculous cutscene where some steel beams fall on him.

CV is great, but there's hardly any horror to it that's why it's not as fondly remembered as the original games

Story is dumb. Get over it.
Backtracking is kino, whoever argues against it doesn't really understand nor like RE series. Best save theme out of them all. Very long but in a good way.
Bandersnatches are shit Those tiny robots are shit Moths are shit Final boss fight is shit
People who bitch about difficulty are retarded, knife is OP as hell Best Chris model Graphics are shit but if you can see it as Dreamcast royalty instead of just another 20yo 3d game, then you kind of get to appreciate it more.
Solid core RE experience.

I understand that this is on PS4 now, while I've yet to play this, but I've currently beaten REmake, RE2make and Zero HD on PC. Is this one worth grabbing on PS4 and does it use tank controls?
Christian Perez
Yes, tank controls.

pretty much this sans best save room music. wish they would kept pre-rendered back grounds tho

>it has the best controls in fixed-camera RE Sorry, that's 3.

You mean you weren't scared by all those >OH NO MORE ZOMBIES! HAVE SOME TENSE MUSIC! sequences? Also not sure why Claire was so freaked out at the start when she killed like a hundred of them in RE2.
I like backtracking, but CV goes way overboard, at least in the Claire route. The game expects you to traverse the whole map many times. There's macguffins on top of macguffins on top of macguffins. It would be less of an issue if the map design was more condensed/interconnected. Chris's route is a lot more reasonable.
It is worth playing, and it does use tank controls. I would recommend playing 2 and 3 (the originals on PS1) first though. I like RE2make and am looking forward to RE3make but they're fundamentally different experiences from the originals.

>There's macguffins on top of macguffins on top of macguffin
I actually like that. There are so many rooms and areas that you can actually get lost on your first playthrough.
