Anime flavored bamham. Mash buttons, something awesome happens.

If you want to be an "expert" then all you need to do is learn one trick; dodge offset.

This. the game is a button masher to its core and requires little to no actual skill. why is it regarded so high in the action echelon when GOW 1-3 gets dunked on for the same reasons

Good combat frequently interrupted by shit gimmicks

>the game is a button masher
I found the casual

kamiya is a coomer so it makes sense

7 more hours on Yas Forums not playing the game

I bet you get C style in every Devil May Cry game

nigger i have been playing action games before you were even born. I know how to spot a masher from an actual skill based game

I don't really like how the game handles combos. Maybe it's just me, but I find them somewhat unintuitive compared to the dial-a-combos in something like Ninja Gaiden or God of War. Maybe it's just because I've played a lot of DMC and have played NG and GoW more than Bayonetta.

Make sure you are holding down the attack buttons when doing combos to use the charge properties of your weapons.

Watch the first 10 minutes, dodge offset explained and demonstrated:
youtube.com/watch?v=EwA5Hw3jC-0

Even if you argue it takes no skill, the game is still really fun. The characters are also fun, all of them.

Bayonetta discourages mashing, you want to hold down buttons in this game.

the entire game for me on hard was
>witch time dodge
>mash light and heavy real hard
>win
Maybe I missed something, but this was all I needed to beat the game. I did learn a few dial-a-combos, but as I said, its not as useful as technique above.

You played the game wrong. You'd know it if you played on NSIC which disables WT. Funny that people play bayonetta which has pistols as default weapon and they never even get to shoot these guns.

Getting killed by QTEs that come out of nowhere.
Also being unable to button mash hard enough in some torture attacks.

Fair enough I guess. Playing it twice was enough for me. I shouldn't have to play a game 3x to have an opinion on it. Not saying that I didn't have fun but on normal and hard, the game isnt nearly as demanding as something like dmc or NG, and it baffles me when i see people place bayonetta in a conversation next to those titans.

>all I needed to beat the game
Yes you beat the game, well done. Confirmed got shite ranks the whole way through. But if that's fine by you then I hope you had fun playing it. I sure did in my first few runs

>Funny that people play bayonetta which has pistols as default weapon and they never even get to shoot these guns.
Because it's only useful for superficial swag and high score wankery. Most people haven't given a shit about that crap for about two decades. This stuff is irrelevant to actually beating the game.

THE SHADOW REMAINS CAST

Yeah I don't really see what makes dmc games a titan. To each his own.

COOM

You're missing out on way too much damage if you're not holding down the buttons. People complain enemies are tanky in bayonetta because they don't even know how to deal damage in that game.

>QTEs that kill you
Holy shit Yas Forums is fucking retarded. There's a total of TWO of these in the entire fucking game, one in chapter two and one in chapter 3. And there's no excuse for getting killed by these more than once.
I always see this being brought up as a criticism of this game but really it makes no sense at all.

It is very much relevant because holding down buttons is key to dodge offset, and you will have a bad time even on Hard when fighting Jeanne if you don't know how to finish a combo after you have dodged.

>Alfheims have to be redone every time you replay a level otherwise your score will be butchered

Attached: 1491639648178.png (466x486, 135.82K)

Yes, you have to play the level to completion to get the perfect score. This makes more sense to me than having to skip fights to get the best score.

You don't need to hold buttons to do wicked weave attacks and that's what deals damage in the game. You can mash any old crap and you'll do plenty of them purely by accident because almost every fucking permutation of button presses in this game is a combo.

>I hope you had fun playing it
I am not convinced user played it.

Jeanne won't give you enough time to finish combos if you are not using dodge offset on hard. You are also underestimating how much damage the charge properties do, it's a shitton.

You can easily get a platinum rank on every chapter without doing any of them, you just have to pick up the slack in other verses. And if you suck too much to be able to do that then go and play on the easy difficulty where Alfheims don't exist.

>Confirmed got shite ranks the whole way through
why the autism? I got a variety of platinum and gold on my hard playthrough. Once again, I dont need to 100% the game to discuss it. I didn't feel the game had enough substance for me to want to beat it to perfection. I have done NGB and NGII on Master ninja difficulty. I am sure I could have perfect ranked all of fuckin bayonetta if i really cared enough to.

Nobody gives a fuck that if you play the game on the hardest difficulty then dodge offset becomes essential for certain fights rather than optional. Even pleb games like Call of Duty are pretty challenging on the hardest difficulty and require good knowledge of the intricacies of the gameplay. This is not impressive. And none of it changes the fact that on standard difficulty the game is a braindead button masher which only has a single "pleb filter" in it that isn't even really that hard.

I'd say it becomes essential on Hard. Regardless of difficulty it makes the game more fun and fluid.

one mans mom fetish.

Understanding how the game actually works raises the value of your contributions to the discussion.

I just feel obligated to play every single verse, don't ask me why.

How do I unlock the bloody palace equivalent in this game? The combat and enemies are great but the bosses and minigames are garbage.

Still sucks though, especially since a death docks your score so much. If you're playing it for the first time it'll more than likely suckerpunch you.

That said, still love the game. The QTEs were just kinda bullshit.

I'm a button masher and bad with fighting games. I got all A's and gold in DMC5

Find every alfheim.

One of the best games I'v ever played. Beat it on every difficulty, got all the secret weapons. A truly amazing gameplay experience.

>Regardless of difficulty it makes the game more fun and fluid.
So does using gadgets in bamham combat but all anyone around here ever does is give the game shit for having "bad combat" because they think you can win all the fights by just pushing triangle over and over again. Bayonetta is not really mechanically much more challenging than bamham, it's just much more extravagant in its presentation and if there's one thing the Japs and weebs fucking love it's extravagant presentation.

fun and frustration

OH WHAT A DAY

Thanks user

How do you measure the mechanical challenge a game provides?

I'm on my first play through and love it. Too many cutscenes though. Feel like it'll be better on second play through when skipping the cutscenes, unlocked weapons, etc.

I need to get good though. I usually get silvers/gold, but I got a bronze just now :/ It was for that weird level with the little girl, fighting yourself, the corridor when you throw cars and lampposts... very weird level and not good IMO, hopefully that's the worst of it.

I'm just an user but I don't think bamham has bad combat and it's tiresome to see it getting brought up as a bad example when AC with multiple gadget shortcuts made the game incredibly fun
the only reason I still have AC installed is to knock out half an hour in an infinite brawler map. On that note I don't think either DMC, NG or Bayonetta are much more challenging than Bamham, people confuse skill ceiling and floor like the retards they are and think they are hot shit for SWORDTRICKSWORDTRICK a punching bag for 15 minutes.

A great combat system trapped in a shitty campaign

>especially since a death docks your score so much
Since they're in very early-game chapters, if you're playing it for the first time you probably didn't have a platinum rank up to that point anyway. Not inherently good design, Kamiya is a bastard like that sometimes, but it isn't that big of a deal overall.

Get used to holding down attack buttons. See thisAlso you can skip cutscenes without going into the pause menu if you press RT+Select.

Shadow of War is the best bamham game I've played. Very satisfying combat.

That's quite a long chapter. There's nothing quite as clunky as the throwing cars / lampposts verses in the game after that point I dont think. I guess you might not like the plane level.

Learn offset

You just look at the number of actions that are essential to player success and the tightness of the requirements for execution. Frankly, on normal difficulty, bamham is probably more demanding of players between the two. For example, avoiding attack in Bayonetta is achieved with just a single player action regardless of attack whereas in bamham there are multiple avoid attack actions and which one is appropriate to execute is dependent on the type of attack being avoided. We can say that, objectively, bamham has mechanically more challenging attack avoidance design than Bayonetta does.

> Even pleb games like Call of Duty are pretty challenging on the hardest difficulty and require good knowledge of the intricacies of the gameplay.

played every CoD on veteran day one, the ONLY trick you need to know is where are the triggers and spawn point, after that it's just go faster than the spawn or flashbang and go hard in
you'll also randomly die from enemies spawning behind you but that's because you need to have some dificulty in the game right ?

2 things : Moon of Mahaa-Khala & once you need to plat things: kilgore glitch

There are aoe attacks that have to be jumped in bayonetta. There is also parry and butterfly shields, so there you have it, bayo has more defensive options.

Fun

A well polished and tremendously fun game.
