>literally called The Phantom Pain
>leaves you with phantom pain
couldnt be more obvious
That's what I've been saying for years. Kojima's unmatched brilliance leads him to constantly innovate and revolutionize. Glad it's not just me seeing it anymore.
that's what makes it so good
it'll leave you empty and wishing for more but there is no more
>ending is poem about some 8-bit boomer console and mirrors instead of an actual ending
for what purpose
With the exception of KotF, it's literally not unfinished.
Hurts, doesn't it?
Yes its a genuinely depressing game. I cant think of anything positive it left in the end, everyone just suffered and getting the title of Big Boss is almost sarcastic. I think it really succeeded at what it wanted to convey and thats why its good. I wont disagree that it propably wasnt the plan from the beginning to make a game like this, but I cant think of a game that would manage to make people feel this crushing emptiness in the end. Best example is propably Skullface, with every MGS villain you get this epic satisfying bossfight and his death is like an equivalent of slipping on a banana peel and then you just shoot his limbs off and it still doesnt feel good, it feels empty and in the end he dies to the prick Huey who is the most single despicaple character in the whole series. You dont even play as Big Boss but a brainwashed medic that was a saint through and through and even he falls to war morgering in the end and the ways of Big Boss. I dont blame people for despising this game, but I personally think its thousand times more interesting and better than what people thought it would be. The reaction to it is almost like watching a social experiment happen.
The game isn't "incomplete" the ending where you play the prologue again was the intended ending. We just lost one mission where you fight sahawahtsitcalled again.
ending is a time skip to when solid is shooting his way through outer heaven to kill venom in metal gear 1 for msx. when he punches the mirror you see the diamond dogs logo change to outer heaven logo and you hear gunfire implying solid is near.
Focks engine wouldnt be able to support all those AI fighting each other. It never would have worked.
You seem like you might be kind of stupid.
The story is finished, yes. But I have a feeling Chapter 2 was intended to have more new content than it does.
Reminder: Kaz was the traitor.
I don't think the ending is really about the Solid Snake being at Outer Heaven in particular. The gunfire and blood is just an indication of Venom's life revolving around war as part of his embracing of the Big Boss title. After all, it doesn't really make any sense for Venom to be bloody before Snake shows up.
i like my version it's cooler. also why reference operation n91 or whatever with the tape, which is specifically snake's mission
>rumors say sony is buying metal gear ip
>kojima working for sony
>release date 2024
>"im afraid its been... nine years"
>also why reference operation n91 or whatever with the tape, which is specifically snake's mission
It's just a fan-wanky reference/allusion to his fate. Why would Venom only find out about the mission right before Solid Snake shows up? Besides, N313 was a direct follow-up to N312 which happens right before.
there was going to be a bit more regarding the child soldiers and a return to camp omega. I don't honestly know why. One theory posits that Chico survived because he was infected with a vocal cord parasite predecessor and he would return in some form.
On a side note I really like the European art house style MGSV went with for its story. It was a great departure from MGSIV bludgeoning us with exposition every five minutes. It's a crying shame Kojima relapsed with Death Stranding and made every cut scene a cringy information dump.
>unfinished on purpose
What difference would that make? If it's unfinished it's unfinished, you fucking idiot. What do you care what the intention was?
This is why nobody wants to talk to you, retard.
>there was going to be a bit more regarding the child soldiers and a return to camp omega.
I have a feeling that was cut pretty early on. I don't think Chapter 2 was ever going to have more story stuff in it, just more new missions. Most of the missions in Chapter 1 have minimal relevance to the greater story.
him putting the tape in doesn't have to be the first time he hears it, he might have been absentmindedly listening to that tape and ruminating over it for weeks cause he's a braindamaged droneman
>12 posters
>Nobody wants to talk to you retard
Out yourself, schizo boogeyman.
I liked the fact that in chapter 2 pretty much every noteworthy character from the Peace walker saga leaves Venom Snake and is otherwise picked off one by one.
Huey is exiled, strangelove has been long dead. Chico died in GZ, Amanda basically abandons you completely to do her own thing. Paz is long dead, Kaz is a shell of his former self, and he eventually leaves to go train Solid.
Then there's the TPP characters
Eli leaves with his soldiers, KOTF happens, Quiet wanders off to die alone. Ocelot eventually leaves for the real BB. Code talker hangs around but is obviously dead by the time of MG1.
In terms of the story, Venom is essentially abandoned by everyone and left to rot as a discount store BB with his seething soldiers on a shitty oil rig in the middle of nowhere. It's actually quite eerie listening to the later tapes while walking around a completely silent mother base. Knowing everyone of note besides Venom snake is effectively gone.
remember when the twin towers was shown in the deleted scenes or whatever and people thought chapter 3 would come on 4:20pm on 9/11? KOJIMA RUSE CRUISE
>You seem like you might be kind of stupid.
I'm still right on how it's a poem. You can't explain smoke coming out of nowhere when a guy punches in a mirror other than metaphors/it's a poem.
It's mostly just visual metaphor, yes, but it's not like the story is lacking an ending.
couldn't have been cut early because it was shown in the trailers.
Visual metaphor is pretentious artsy garbage, it does not mean actual content to entertain us. Therefore, since the ending is visual metaphor, it's not an ending.
I fucking wanted Venom fighting Solid so bad, why do I not get the things I want?
OK. Even if it was shown in trailers, what are
>made for trailer sequences?
Movies sometimes do this.
You could be right, or I could be wrong. We'll never know.
why not make it yourself? There's a modding tool coming out soon which uses Unity.
This is probably the gayest thing I've ever read on this site, and that's saying a lot. You should feel bad for typing it, and even worse if you meant it.
get in my MGO3 room on PC faggots I will fulton your ass into oblivion
You talkin about this part? It's like a 2 second scene in the 2013 trailer, could have been cut very real early.
>if something is figurative it doesn't count
Let me guess. You hate books/wish that video games weren't art.
I think the most underrated part is Volgin. Just a former shadow of himself only kept alive by burning hatred and thought of revenge like most MGSV characters and when he recognizes that Medic isnt Big Boss he just dies from the disappointment.
Theres also this scene which some people think was cut but is actually part of a mission in game. Although changed up.
youtube.com
Why did they leave in the cutscene with Eli leaving with Salahanthropus when they could have cut it before then and not left an obvious loose end? or were they really planing to release KOTF at one point?
That too, even snakes enemies are disappointed with Venom.
Another thing I should add too is that it somewhat adds a mild layer of tragedy to MG1 and 2, knowing that despite all the trouble zero went through to protect BB and Venom, and all the shit Venom went through, they were both still bodied by the system he lost control of through Solid. Suppose that's probably me reading too much into it though, those games were clearly not made to be in a 25 year running series chronology.
KOJIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Everybody's revenge is a failure, more or less. Skull Face's revenge against Zero fails, his revenge on Big Boss fails. Venom and Miller prevail over Skull Face, but it's still hollow and empty. I think zombie Volgin was a stupid idea, but it's thematically consistent.
>those games were clearly not made to be in a 25 year running series chronology.
How do you figure? MGS4 references the MSX games too. They're still part of the story. Retcons abound, but that's always been something Kojima struggled with. Remember when Big Boss was in his late 50s when he was cloned?
obviously it was not planned but i think he tied mg1/2 into it remarkably well, explaining why you kill big boss twice in the msx games. very clever
>since it was definitely Konami's doing
it's honestly impressive that people still believe this
I mean, the game literally ships with the KOTF dvd that even gives rare details like "60% complete". The title of the game is "phantom pain". The game was in development for 6 (!) years. And brainlets unironically believe that Konami cut an entire chapter out of the game for no reason.
quiet gave up on getting revenge on snek
i went through a phase of grief after trying to piece together mgs5 and my heart loves the idea that it's intentionally inflicting a feeling of phantom pain on the player, it's brilliant if so but my brain says it's just incomplete. maybe one day koji will offer more words on the matter, although i hope not, the ambiguity of what happened is interesting in itself
That's exactly the case but that doesn't mean it's "smart" or "good"
Kojima wanted to make a fulfilling story until more than halfway through devtime, where he had them cut and scrap a bunch of stuff on a whim
It's poor
Yeah they fit about as well as you could get, MG2 is less of an issue, since BB is a character that has some semblance of ideology that's expanded upon in later games, that's a fantastic game in its own right. What I mean is concepts like Zero and The Patriots and etc obviously didn't exist in canon yet. I think being able to incorporate them in the story at large despite those shortcomings is admirable. Playing those games gives me a feeling of sadness like they never did before V, knowing BB and Venom lose to the enemy they fought for years.
>Playing those games gives me a feeling of sadness like they never did before V, knowing BB and Venom lose to the enemy they fought for years.
They were warmongering assholes anyway.
>Wake up soon old friend....time is running short....
That tape between Zero and BB was fucking great.
also not to mention that Kojima was the producer AND vice president at Konami.
He actually had quite alot to say about it
>Metal Gear was born as a game in 1987. From there 28 years, within me the circle of the Metal Gear story has been closed with the latest release “MGSV”. A respected author, Dennis Lehane with the popular series “Patrick Kenzie & Angela Gennaro” declared that at the peak of his popularity “No matter what kind of series it is, there is a time that it must end”, and he himself closed the curtain. No matter how popular a series is, someday the end will come. However, that is by no means a parting. Even if you can’t touch it, you can feel the influence of that story. A story is a thing without shape. Assuming physically nothing is there, nothing to be lost. As long as stories and legends are desired, they will continue forever. The brilliance will never vanish. It’s in everyone’s heart. It is not always true that saying “goodbye to a hero” ignites a phantom pain. By saying “goodbye to a hero”, you can for eternity leave behind lost joy as a blank space.”
>In MGSV, we hand the story (the legend) over to the player. That’s how the player becomes the Big Boss in the MSX2 Metal Gear. You play the game as you will, raise up your Mother Base. That’s the way I want the player to create his own story, thinking of things like “war” and “peace” as Big Boss. Up until now, the Metal Gear Saga was told by creating video games, but I want each player to think and come up with their own story (legend) on their own.”
>There is a blank space, but it will not be filled. In that blank space there is always a hero. Because there is a blank space, you can advance ahead. It is this blank space exactly that is “V”.
from the MGSV novelisation
>Pulp Fiction was just unedited, because the final cut doesn't move in a chronological order
This is your argument.
What did Kojima mean by this?
>"oh cool someone datamined GZ, Medic has a face and he looks like Big Boss. interesting shit. Hope this will be explained in TPP"
>''''Truth'''' states that the canon face was actually player creator garbage instead all along
I hate this. You shouldn't be able to make Medic a nigger
>bro it's shit ON PURPOSE

First encounter with Big Boss
>In 1972, two years prior to the Peace Walker Incident, Miller's travels eventually led him to Colombia
>It was during this time that he gained the name "Master Miller.
>half of his unit was wiped out and he ended up sending a soldier to act as bait while he fled
>Big Boss attempted to get him to surrender
>However, Miller had actually intended to distract Big Boss to pull his trump card: Miller prepared to take his own life with a grenade that was concealed behind his back and ensure Big Boss died with him as a last stand
>Miller, however, did not wish to speak to him, due to being his enemy.
>Miller, however, declined to join Big Boss, especially when he was still his enemy. Big Boss then listed the alternative scenarios that might befall upon Miller
>In actuality, however, Miller's "contest" was a ruse for an elaborate escape attempt
>listing a plan to ambush Snake and his men at sundown
> Miller then explained his goals and tried to get Big Boss to join him instead, not wanting to be subservient to Big Boss.
>Humiliated once again, Miller left for the forest alone, declaring he'll make do with himself if that's what he can do.
> Big Boss eventually reached Miller, though he ended up getting into a fight with him, in which Big Boss eventually slammed him down onto the ground. Miller finally accepted joining MSF, deciding that he would fulfill his dream through Big Boss instead
Kaz was the traitor. Kaz was always a traitor. Kaz worked for Zero. Kaz was never Big Boss's friend. He was only ever looking out for himself.

Zero even tells him to be there for Snake when he gets out of his coma, and he wasn't. Snake had to come save Miller.
>default idle pose for the two guys in the back
How lazy can you fucking get
I like how the back of the final box shows beta screenshots. The blue sky of E3 2013 looks nothing like the putrid yellowish filter of the final game.
At least it's nothing like MGS4's piss filter.
>max lvl africa rifle on NPC in middle left
40 days until april 30th. it's been a while, i'll have to play through the series again i think. i wish someone would make a mod for mgsv to stop the repetitive radio barks from miller and ocelot though
>MGSV will be 5 years old this year
Fuck...
The tears look like Photoshop smear tool
They just reused his model rather than making one from scratch for Volgin.
MGS is the Sonic of stealth.
It was never good. 5 years from now, everyone will be saying this. Mark my words.
