IV is boomer. V is zoomer. Perfect way to sum them up. IV is better overall but V has better gameplay. Makes sense why most people will have more time played there. Not to mention the online experience. They're for different people but I'll tell you that IV had an impact on me and I still remember the times I had in it. Even the online which was simple but great back then. It was even worth it to tolerate Games for Windows - Live for it. Bet you guys don't remember that do you? I STILL remember the location of the Sultan RS behind that garage in those bushes by heart to this day. Don't remember shit or care about V.

V also has weaker side characters and i actually enjoyed Niko's jaded uncaring personality interacting with them.

V IMO still has the better overall gameplay. there's more to do and the driving, whilst not as fun to fuck around with as IV its clear that V was going for a more streamlined driving experience because car chases in IV are pretty damn sloppy and so are street races in comparison to how fast and clean you can drive in V which most people prefer. the rag doll physics in IV however should've stayed and so should have the gun physics.

i remember playing the demo in 1997 at a friend's place who was way more into pc games at the time. shit blew my mind. was a fan almost instantly, and have played just about every entry since. haven't played the game boy titles, but probably will at some point

While comparing GTA IV and V is good for showcasing how regressive the 2010s were for video game technology, it's not really a basis for for saying which game is better especially for how different the two are. And both of them pale in comparison to SA.

GTA IV definitely has better gunplay. I spent a decent amount of time fighting with cops in IV. On V, I barely ever strayed away from campaign. But V has one hell of a campaign so, I think it makes up.

IV was the first with the new engine and went on to showcase all it could simmulate.
Then years later they took V and polished it to be prettier and more streamlined in a gameplay sense

Only SA was better than 5, not even memeing. 5 was a quality product if you ignore the entire online component/cashgrab.

5 had the best open world out of any of the games though.

The driving and feel for different vehicles is by far waaaay better in GTA4. Races on there were competitive and punished you for hitting a curb or a pole etc. GTA5 racing is like a car glued to the pavement, feels airy and light, and you can literally blow over a sidewalk median in a lowered supercar with no effect. Super gay.

I remember races on GTA4 being so much more enjoyable. I uninstalled GTAV like 2 yrs ago. Its terrible online.

Me too. I remember playing GTA 2 back as a young teen when i first started drinking booze and the overhead screen zooming in and out as you drive fast to slow, slow to fast really fucked me up. I'll always have the little lighthearted jibberish sounding voice of the payphones in my head forever. Also when the main song came on the radio i used to crank it up. Good times as a young buck.

GTA V barely had a story. Things just happen in the story. Also there's absolutely no need for 3 main characters, the main character is clearly Michael and the other two are just there for some reason.

Thankfully there's a mod that makes it so that an NPC has to literally make a call for the cops to show up. If you manage to contain a situation and kill all the NPCs trying to call the cops, you'll be good even in the city. There was even a bug in the vanilla game where animals could also "call the cops" because they were considered NPCs.

The PIT maneuver is an actual thing, user. The cops in GTAIV are trying to do one. The cops in GTAV just ram the back of your car like retards. I think GTAV is the better game overall but the cops suck. But I have like a dozen mods that bring many of the features of GTAIV into V which make it a much better experience IMO, cop behavior included.

If any of you didn't know by now, the cops in V can't pit maneuver so when they even slightly touch you, the game instantly changes the direction of your wheels to make it "seem" like a pit maneuver.
So basically the cops in V use hacks because the AI is so fucking shit that they can't even pit.

It's super easy to confuse the cops by steering hard one way or the other and make them crash into shit. They really fucked up in that regard. As long as you keep going, and get into cover, they can pretty much never get you. Also, going into that tunnel off the main freeway, or onto train tracks that go underground are auto evade cop areas.

You're wrong. It uses the same basic AI from III, VC, and SA. They're designed to pit you.
They just got rid of it in V for reasons unknown.

GTAIV was more fun overall to me, it felt like sandbox peak just because of the euphoria engine, doing literally anything felt fun, having a shootout and seeing the aftermath after was fantastic, GTAV felt more artificial.

No, they actually do try to pull of legit PIT maneuvers and they're successful a lot of the time. I've seen GTAV cops attempt it too but it's very rare, most of the time they just hit the bac of your car and the game forces your wheels left or right, like this user said

I've had cops in GTAV do legit pit maneuvers before, but they're only successful if there's enough cops to corner you first, if it's just a couple cops chasing then it resorts to cheating the maneauver
