Is there any reason to play the original Metroid 1 and 2 when remakes exist for both games?

metroid 1 is debatable but both am2r and samus returns miss what the original metroid 2 had going for it, which was the total isolation and the pretty grim task of wiping a species to extinction
am2r tries it's best to do this but some of the newer areas take you out of it and the prime-esque music fucks with the tone it's going for
samus returns on the other hand is way to gung-ho about slaughtering things in general and wreaks the ending with the remixed baby metroid theme with the tunnel crawling with enemies and the unfitting fight with ridley at the end
it does, however, have some good remixes in it like metroid caves 2 and some of the returning songs from previous games

It literally didn't. Metroid's 1 music is all over the place with high tones which is logical considering the limitations of the system. Now, compare this mess with the delicious soundtrack of Zero Mission which has rich basslines and actual structure.
The only track of the original that manages to be superior to its remake counterpart is the Kraid theme.

ZM is an easy game but the stealth segment had no place in a 2D Metroid game, if it was popular it would have returned but Nintendo has already burned their bridges with ZSS so it's pretty dead in the water in future games.

Zero Mission is definitely a better game than the original, but the original is still worth playing if you're a Metroid fan just to see how the series got its start.
There's no definitive version of Metroid II so it's worth playing all of them.
