I would say 96 is a fair score for it if you haven't played the original game and rate it as a whole package.
The added content alone is more like 75-80 and definitely not worth paying a full price for if you have completed the original game.

Played the JP version and yeah the newly added stuff is arguably equal or higher quality than the original. The new semester as a whole has a pretty strong scenario, plus Yoshizawa and Maruki have good events too.

However on the other hand the original is just so damn long that in the end I'm not really sure it was worth it as a re-play. It really should have been an add on DLC, although the introduction of the two new characters would have been a bit awkward.

I‘d love to see the reviews for a P3 Remake. Propably something like: „The Dark Souls of Persona Games, way to hard, 2/5“

Pretty simple reason for that: It has a „movie-difficulty“ where you can’t get Game Over in Battle. It‘s just watching an Anime at that point.

To the people who say they shouldn’t be treating royal as a new game or total package, should Persona 3 Fes not have been treated as a new game as well? Or should critics have lowered their scores since FES only added the answer, which sucked, and some new personas.

As much as I think P5 is a piece of turd, It's not easier than most JRPGs out there. Its easy mode is easy as your average final fantasy, and the harder modes can actually be tougher than most JRPGs (which is not saying much).

Charging full price for FES instead of giving the option to buy The Answer separately is worth criticizing as well. It's justifies your pucharse more than Royal though, since it serves as a sequel for the story and not as just filler.

P5R getting such a high score really leaves me the question, why the fuck did Nioh 2 get worse scores than the first game?
Like it's completely okay for P5R to just be a more poplished version of the original game, sold as a completely new game, and 'it deserves better scores because objectively it's a better game'

but then you have nioh2 that also noticably improves upon every aspects of the first game, even all the critics mention this, yet they still gave it weaker scores because it reused lot of the stuff from the first game and that's a minus. Like fuck, it's still 2/3 new stuff, that's much more than what P5R added.

Like I'm sure if team ninja just named Nioh2 as Nioh Gold or something then the game would have gotten 96 scores instead of 86 for being the "definitive Nioh game"

I didn’t question the regular difficulty options. I meant the „Safety“ Difficulty where you really get full health back and still continue the fight. I haven‘t seen that in any jrpg yet, but i can imagine that this is an regular option nowadays...

It's not bad if you can tolerate the storyline being a very trope-filled "Adults bad, idealistic teenagers good" rant. A lot of 4th wall/political dialogue and 'current year'isms, and general coming of age "wow grown ups sure are shitty people, haha, us youngsters will save the world with kindness" kind of shit.

Otherwise, pretty good game. Just a warning to the wise if you're not a teenager or young 20something, the narrative will probably sour on you in the first 20 hours.

P5 was piss easy even on hard mode and from what I've seen, P5R is almost a joke in terms of game balance. One example is the reformatted bosses. Pretty much all of them are easier and will straight up give you the win if you take too long fighting them. Maderame's adds; his only source of damage, will start to spawn in asleep and with 1 hp while Kaneshiro's two adds will flat out run away if you take too long to kill them. That's not mentioning any of the other completely broken mechanics they added like the Scarlet Room
