I assume the "meme buzzwords" you're talking about is "soul". To be 100% honest with you, it's hard not to use that word, because soul is what makes all the difference in the world. Soul is an ethereal quality that some things have, and some don't. For example, the Backstreet Boys had soul, while One Direction don't.
Basically, part of what makes something soulful is how much it contributes to the culture of the time. Like, the late 90s wouldn't be the same without terrible boy bands, but the early 2010s would be a lot better without Bieber.
Maybe "charm" is a better word for this context.

Yes I've noticed this gradual drop-off of self-integrity with big titles. With the games becoming less true to themselves, to their original concept and idea. I think it simply has to do with corporations wanting to earn more and are constantly watering down games to make them appeal to broader audience. They aren't interested in perfecting games, but only in making them sell more.
