Whoever made this series has never played an MMO in their life
t. never played MMO's before the internet got normiefied
it's not possible to have a good MMO. The genre is trash by definition. Only supreme tranny faggots play them anyway
Guild wars 2 is good
ESO
More like they played too many mmos
lol
There's a certain aura to the early 2000s internet and early WoW that I'm sad I never got to experience
Sauce?
you need a time machine OP. these days i just play ffxiv. maybe there's better things to be playing atm but i couldnt name any.
mmos have literally always been hugely popular you fucking idiot. i know you're only pretending to have played mmos before 2010, but eq was a big deal even with normalfags back in the day and wow was a massive success from day 1
Damn this thread is almost making me feel bad for zoomers.
I don't miss my childhood, but I sure miss those times for mmos.
Everything was new and adventurous, and none of them had a tutorial that made the allusions that you would be some demigod of combat out of the gate.
Waiting on Crowfall desu my senpai.
PvP MMOs don't get enough love.
Bofuri. It's cute, but kind of dumb. Good fun though, but don't expect anything like an actual MMO.
Perish, Anet shill.
Also, I can't wait for the Canthan empress to be a transsexual.
Until MMOs as a whole fall apart like a prolapsed anus we will never get a good MMO, if not endless Wow clones endless FFXIV clones. If Gw2 was handled by a competent team perhaps it could have broken the mold but like runny diarrhea spewed out of a pus filled dilation hole, it all went to shit.
Maplestory
im waiting to see if blue protocol is good
>Spvp boring
>Wvw dead (not great when it was alive but ok)
>Never done raids but they are dead apparently
Nothing to do
Mabinogi is better
>flashy chink shit
it's gonna be shit. just like every other chink shit mmo that gets shilled here.
2 months of fame and then poof. nothing
its jap, theres a slim chance it will be good
you're thinking korean/chinese, then i wouldnt give a shit at all
Pretty much this. Even worse, it's a self insert story for those who are daydreaming to be top ranking players in an MMO but don't have the autism and don't want to give the time and effort to achieve that. My college buddies who used to spend tens of thousands of hours across UO, EQ, WoW, and GW1 all feel insulted seeing how easy the MC becomes the strongest player in the story. In other words, it's an isekaishit in disguise.
Laugh all you want at me, but the Roleplay scene is also completely dead. That's how little to do there is.
This isn't even scratching the surface. There is a reason I go on a fucking crusade any time this cursed fucking game is brought up. If we had an ACTUAL Guild wars 2 everything would be great. Instead we got some shitty game with potential that was given a vaguely guild wars skin and squandered immediately by retarded decisions and NCsoft.
Based Crowchad, its gonna be sick crowbros!
Imagine overanalyzing moe yuri show like this.
True. desu, I'm willing to give most of them a look, but it comes down to how the eastern release is, how bad its cash shop is, and how the western release looks.
So far, avoiding all of them like the plague has worked.
OSRS is the only one left, and even that will only take you as far as your nostalgia will let you.
>tfw not a single good weeb post
please stop
I cant wait for the new AMAZON MMO NEW WORLDS. Sure hope they give me special items for having amazon prime UwU
i would play a legitimate osrs or even 2008-2011 runescape forever
When are they going to nerf shieldshitters? I can't enjoy new world online anymore.
It's comfy and cute, I'll give you that. But how the fuck can you watch it every week without, "That's not how it fucking works in an MMOs," ever not crossing your mind like even once? Plus, the chatboard section at end of each episode is cringy and sounds fake as fuck.
Not even the same guy but:
How is 2 sentences long an "over-analysis"?
It's as if anything that's not a smooth-brain hottake in bite-size meme form is "autism" or "over analyzed" it's literally one thought that leads into a second thought.
How are you complaining about discussion on a website built for doing so? You're a retard.
The core idea behind an MMO is basically dead.
Instead of getting to create a fantasy character you want to play and live as in a fantasy online world like back in everquest, ultma, Runescape, and early WoW you now have the choice of what type of skin/gimmick do you want to play for your tank/dps/healer?
WoW destroyed the fantasy world element of MMO's and just made them about grinding and gearing and everything in the entire game is centered around that. You can't build anything in the world that other players can have any sort of meaningful interaction with, it's just the gear treadmill. It's a massively multiplayer game, but you have almost no interaction with the other people playing the game at all.
You don't have the guy who constantly fishes by the bank you pass all the time, or the guild that built an entire city, or the guy in the raid wearing a pirate hat and larping as a pirate captain, or the clan wars, or the people who only play to make money buying and selling things to other players, or the friendly people wanting to help new players, or the scammers, or the gankers, or any fun interactions at all.
If you see another player you just hope they don't steal whatever you are after.
Modern MMO's are not a sandbox, they are a concrete cage that only allow you to do what the developer decided. You can't make a powerful character because it wouldn't be balanced. You can't make a weak character for the challenge or RP reasons, because it wouldn't be balanced. You can only grind efficiently and ignore the other players around you.
RIP MMO's. Dead but not forgotten.
you're watching a tv show it doesn't have to be realistic autismo
maybe you should step out of the bubble of
>WOW
>GW2
>FFXIV
and explore what's on the horizon.
Thank you. I came here just to post that image.
I used to play MMOs like 15 years ago and wanted to play a new one because of this anime. I got black desert online because it was free on steam but none of my friends wanted to join and it has so many menus and shit that bored me.
Any game suggestion?
This, it seems that every big medium for entertainment eventually becomes self aware and no longer tries to innovate, instead choosing bog standard, safe models. That's not to say that the playerbase of mmos aren't equally shitty. Because it's online the shitty attitude of 'My fun > your fun" is very prevalent, and people ignore everything to get to the final content and "beat" the game before quitting out of boredom.
Yeah go find the info on city of heros reboot
Give me back wizardry online.
I never watched what you're describing myself, but is it worse than the way japan romanticizes high school or unemployment? If so I might just read a summary for the hell of it.
>newgrounds and albinoblacksheep flash animation and games
>ytmnd fads
>sprite/rhg stick fights
>niche mmos
>geass summer and Lucky Star vs Gurren Lagann
>Japan time and 2006 E3
>Yas Forums City Apocalypse
>linkin park/emo AMVs and YTPs
>NicoNicoDouga MADs, remixes and songs
>SA articles
>IRC and small forums
Home.
Again, who gives a fuck, you gonna pretend you watch anime for the plot and not for the cute girls?
Not even expecting it to be realistic but what kind of MMO allows a newbie to turn into a one-girl raid boss who could easily wipe out hundreds of veteran players at once? What kind of balancing is that? That's why I said this is an isekaishit in disguise. It's no different from thoses "Being the Strongest in the World with Cheat Abilities!" turds that saturate the market.
In the anime the ones that get mad at Maple and report that she is OP are exactly like you. The anime actually feels legit in how it was for me the first time I played a MMORPG.
>why is the made up game in this shitty seasonal anime no one will remember 2 weeks after it ends not properly balanced?
i think you might be a genuine retard user
utterly based and maplepilled
I think the novelty wore off once there was no mystery involved
>Whoa I met a person from (foreign place) today!
Not as impressive because social media is mainstream now
>Wow I found something nobody has ever seen!
Unlikely unless you found a bug, since everything is either broadcasted about then patched in, or datamined
Even something as small as learning shit from people has been streamlined since most people can get info from videos, wikis, and forum posts.
On top of that most people have their own pre-established group of friends or just don't interact regard;ess because the otherwise you can run into someone like (pic related)
Even Dot Hack made sense, don't respond to that guy any longer. He's just a shitposting faggot looking to rile you up.
We get it, you cucks like yuri. It's a shit anime, but of course you gotta defend it. But at least actually play some online games before you open your mouth so you don't sound like an absolute knob.
That's the ultimate problem when you make a combat focused RPG that has an "end" you can reach.
Take RS classic for example, 27 skills, all max lvl 99, with tons of unlocks on the way. Only 7 of them related to combat. Everything else was harvesting or crafting related and just as flushed out as the combat parts of the game (except for fire making).
Tired of combat? I'm gona go level up my agility so I can run longer and take shortcuts around the world, then I might go fishing for a bit, chop some trees, make some bows or go play a mini game, maybe do a quest. It's not the fucking gear grind to kill raid boss to get more gear to better kill raid boss.
The game was fun, and made you interact with other players to advance.
You made friends because it was part of the game.
There was even a few quests you could not complete without the help of other people also doing the quest at the same time. Not teaming up to kill a boss, but infiltrating 2 different groups and robbing them both, then trading some of the things you stole with each other so you both can finish the quest. I'v never seen anything like that in modern games.
All anime is shit user, you just find the ones you like the most, you're probably some kind of shounenshitter acting high and mighty.
Should I get into Neverwinter?
>Modern MMO's are not a sandbox, they are a concrete cage that only allow you to do what the developer decided.
that’s every video game ever created moron, go play dnd if you want an actual social sandbox
This is the type of faggot that donates to twitch thots.
>it'll never come back and internet will only get worse over time
I wonder if someday it'll just flip around and normies will sit home and fuck around on the internet, while all the neets will be social outcasts that are going outside
Project Gorgon
This is why I was excited at the idea of an MMO like EQ Next. I knew it would never come out, and if it did, it likely wouldn't deliver. I think the next step in MMOs is to create a world where large scale events occur on a semi-frequent basis, and players decisions change the course of the world's history. That and things like town building. The problem is, devs tend to not realize that absolute freedom is just as shitty as no freedom at all, so when they attempt something like this, nothing interesting ever happens. If there's no real consequences for me breaking someone's base or house, what's stopping me from being a suicidal grief lord?
That's every game ever created post 2000's.
The whole point of MMO's was to be DND but now you have an entire virtual world instead of pen and paper.
>Not teaming up to kill a boss, but infiltrating 2 different groups and robbing them both, then trading some of the things you stole with each other so you both can finish the quest. I'v never seen anything like that in modern games.
That sounds fucking amazing. I tried playing nuMMOs but my favorites will always be PSOBB and Ragnarok Online. Everything else always ends / ended up as a soulless treadmill.
ah yes I remember back before 2000 where video games could allow for courses of action that developers didn’t code into them
>tfw playing ffxi every day
