I just started playing, got it yesterday. Haven't started the main mission yet. So as for side quests, they've been fairly short and sweet, one right at the beginning had an interesting story where people were posing as gods in a cave taking offerings from people, I put an end to it fairly quickly.
Would be interested to know if they side quests get longer and more fleshed out as the game progresses like the witcher.
Brody Green
Yeah the game is good and approved /mommycore/.
>Also what are the sidequests like? Do they have good stories attached or are they just busywork/padding? both exists. Sidequests with real story lines as well as simpler contracts that usually involve killing a certain type of enemy(these contracts are infinite). You usually have different choices as well.
Ryder Myers
No, the game is open world but the main quests and the story are shit, it ends before you know it, the dlcs alone has more story than the main game.
Adam Roberts
user, I don't know if you've left the first island yet, but the game is about to overwhelm you with shit ton of stuff to do in the world. The quests are inconsistent in their quality, as some are one-off side quests, whereas some have full blown chains of quests that can also affect the main story later down the road.
Jacob Ramirez
Game's combat sucks honestly. Also couldn't stand the non-existent parkour.
Ian Cox
Is there an indication of what kind of quest it will be before you take it?
I have a problem with open world games where I tend to do EVERYTHING for the first 20 or so hours, then I burn out and spend the next 10 or so hours focusing on the main quest before getting completely tired of it and never finishing.
Though a large part of that has to do with most open world games having really shitty combat, but I really liked the combat in AC2/Black flag and I hear its gotten better.
Matthew Young
Just for context, can you cite a few examplea of games that you enjoyed the combat of? I don't mean that passive agressively either, just trying to guage if we have similar taste in games.
Elijah Reed
>Is there an indication of what kind of quest it will be before you take it? Yes the "radiant quests" are limited to a message board type thing and clearly labeled.
Cool thanks, I'll probably avoid those for the most part.
I understand you can choose between a male or female character to play as. Are there any differences between them aside from appearance, like story changes or different combat skills?
Owen Fisher
It's boring as shit, and after about an hour of play, you'll be repeating the exact same thing for the next 70 hours.
Jordan Ward
The only story change is a spoiler so I won't mention it, but for the most part the entire thing plays out irrelevant to which character you choose- entirely your choice.
The census is that Alexios VA is goofy, while Kassandra is more consistent and adorable.
Owen Rodriguez
>literally every game ever
Cooper Richardson
>choices and scenes implemented to the extent that it merely satisfies a checklist >cosmetics variety locked behind paywall/gatcha >shields given no thought to make them interesting coming from origins, so removed completely >ship crew implementation Alot of good ideas that simply weren't given any maturity to make them endearing or interesting Game in no way tried to be great, Just playable It's average A very solid 5/10
Kevin Myers
I didn't find Alexios' VA to be goofy in instances other than when it was called for. I chose him and never regretted it.
to be fair, while gameplay loops aren't inherently a problem, the big problem is when a game sucks enough that you hate the loop but cite the wrong reason
i liked the combat on the first AC games. you can just press X then it does all the shit. press X then another animation but cooler. kind of like Batman games / FF15 or FF7RE, where you can just smash one button then it does cool shit. ez. 10/10 combat
Adrian King
I like it quite a bit but it's a fucking time vampire. If you're not ready to spend at least 40 hours on this, you might wanna look for another game.
Carson Brooks
>I could easily answer this user's very reasonable question >but nah, I'd rather be a huge faggot What are you, 16?
It's definitely worth a play through and is a decent game
Dominic Smith
40hrs seems like a reasonable completion time. I dislike when open world games have so much filler that they take 70+hrs. Nothing is fun for 70-100 entire hours, even the 40hr games tend to push it a little far unless the end (last 10ish hours) is better than the middle parts.
Jordan Robinson
yeah
most of the time I was really not that impressed
that was after playing rdr2 though. But considering that game came out only a few months after ACO, it's fair game.
>Is this as good as people say it is? People say it's mediocre at best, so do you mean as good as that?
Jaxon Adams
It's modern Ubis*ft. Soulless open world, fetch quest, diablo loot and strong females.
Don't feed the beast. If you must play it, get it for free.
Austin Jackson
get a torrent dumb fuck
Colton Martin
this game is dogshit. uninstall now
Jose Ward
I think it depends on what you play otherwise. If you play every open world rpg hitting the market then I can see why you want to not exceed 40 hours before going onto the next. But I don't and personally played ac odyssey for 100 hours before feeling fatigue.
Liam Edwards
it's free to play this week-end
Jackson Hughes
Very good. Give it a go and you'll see for yourself.
They should really just drop the Assassin Creed title now.
Ryder Rodriguez
I enjoy Dishonored's combat, AC2, ACR and AC4. My main complaint about the combat is that it makes you feel so powerless every time unless it's someone 3 levels below you. I had to turn off the XP and level UI shit cause it just kills any excitement I have for fighting enemies.
Christian Williams
I will NEVER understand people who buy offline games.
I will NEVER understand people who buy ubisoft games.
Odyssey's combat is nothing like any of those games. It plays more like an action RPG, with a focus on parrying or dodging- which timing at the right moment will either allow you to counter with a 50% damage boost attack (perfect parry), or enter matrix/flurry rush time for a quick second or two to start attacking (perfect dodge).
It also has skill trees that include both passives and assignable skills you can use in combat.
Are you confused? You quoted me but your post doesn't really make sense as a reply in the context of the overall conversation.
I have never played fortnite.
Asher Cruz
Thank you user.
Angel Anderson
can you assassinate people like in the old AC games? I heard you can't if their level is higher than you.
William Wilson
You can, but it's not an instant one-shot kill anymore. Rather it's a numerical value, and you have to invest skill points and equip accordingly for "assassination damage" if you want to focus on that. Alternatively you have ranged damage and combat damage.
Kevin Lewis
ubisoft makes shitty console ports with bad LoD
Asher Morris
It's a full action RPG system now with heavy focus on stats. You technically can, but you'll need to be geared for it.
There's 3 kinds of damage in the game (excluding elemental fire/poison damage) Hunter Warrior Assassin
If you want to assassinate usually one hit, you'll need to use gear that offers assassination damage bonuses. There's also a skill in the assassination talent tree called "critical assassination" which will allow you to perform even stronger assassinations in case.
I personally enjoy going full warrior with a fire set and burning niggas alive
I have a job, the 14 dollars I spent on it cost me ~27 minutes of real life labor, after taxes. It took about 12 seconds from when I decided I wanted the game to the download being in progress.
It was simply easier than pirating. If I had less disposable income my habits would probably change.
Christian Young
It's the first AC game I've enjoyed longer than ten hours. I'm at about 60 hours now and still enjoying it. Plus it looks good. I've taken more screenshots in this game than any other.
Jeremiah Green
Sometimes, in that regard it sucks (imo) The game has three different "damage" numbers, broken down into bows, swords and assassinations. If you can keep your assassination damage high enough then you should be able to assassinate people at your level and maybe a bit above. Theres plenty of abilities to pick up to help you one shot. Come late game you become a death machine.
Nathan Garcia
I'm 200 hours deep into this piece of shit and am about to start New Game Plus.
I honestly enjoy the combat changes and hope they keep going with it.
Colton Rivera
>I will NEVER understand people who buy offline games. As opposed to what, renting an online game-as-service microtransaction shitpile? Miss me with that shit fag.
I have only played through Assassin's Creed Odyssey and all its DLCs once. That took me 200 hours. Now admittedly I took the scenic route and did 100% exploration, but the point remains that this is a LONG game. The RPG gameplay mechanics are not particularly deep, however the general Grand Theft Witcher hack-n-slash gameplay is fun. The dialogue is great, particularly when you play as the female character Kassandra. Almost all the characters in the game are interesting, and of the literal hundreds of quests, there's probably less than a dozen that are bad.
The downsides are the aforementioned length - do not get invested in this game if you cannot give a shitload of time to it. The mechanics are fairly shallow. There is massive artificial difficulty when it comes to boss creatures, namely that they're just tank shit. If you play a female character, you may be brought out of immersion by the fact that literally nobody in the game world except for your family comments on the fact that you are in fact female, on account of the necessity of keeping voice lines (and there are many many voice lines, and actors, although you will definitely notice repeat VAs like in recent Fallout games) accessible for either gender. You may or may not like the fact that this is essentially not an Assassin's Creed game. It has the logo on it, and it has about a half hour of modern day cutscenes to tie the story in, but overall it has nothing to do with the franchise. I personally think this is a good thing because Ass Creed sucks. If you want an open world action rpg with a cool story set in ancient mythological Greece, this is it. It's the closest thing you'll ever get to playing a Xena Warrior Princess simulator.
How is that gay? You can still one-shot assassinate. Did you just now hear that it's an RPG?
Dylan Mitchell
>frogposting
Aiden Cox
combat looks kinda floaty
Brayden White
It's very worth $14. It's legitimately one of the best open world RPGs ever made, and it's fun as shit
be cassandra, she's the canon mc and better in every way.
sidequests range from busywork/padding to fully fleshed out stuff. exploring the beautiful world is often its own reward and the side quests are designed to take you there
be aware that this is the one game where you can turn off quest markers and be forced to find shit on your own. they even added extra dialogue for this purpose when the feature is enabled.
Dominic Ramirez
You get used to it. If you play it smart you barely have to kill people at all. Atleast the combat is better than the counter-spam of old, you win some, you lose some.
Joshua Reyes
>be cassandra, she's the canon mc and better in every way. eww no. Alexios' VA is awesome and lines were written implying a male protagonist anyway.
Michael Scott
This 2nd playthrough now and Alexios > Kassandra Got pretty mad when I beat the game as Alexios and found out Kassandra was canon
Levi Thompson
I watched the ending on youtube. Sad.
No way I'm investing 100 hours for that mediocre story. I'll pick it up when it's $5 on steam.
Luke Jenkins
One of the worst in the series. Don't waste your time. Origins was superior in basically every single conceivable way.
Sure maybe, but I can't do that on my ps4. And I can't lay in bed and play games on my pc. (Well technically that is possible but I'd have to rearrange a lot of shit)
David Garcia
Can you spoiler text how cassandra is supposed to be canon?
Grayson Stewart
>Kassandra was canon Yikes. Fuck Ubisoft.
Joseph Thomas
Alexios doesn't just sound stupid he looks stupid, he has low-test so-ylent stubble, a receding hairline, and a manbun, if you put thick framed hipster glasses on him you wouldn't be able to pick him out in a Starbucks He's tolerable in the 10 minutes he appears in cutscenes and bossfights, not playing as him for 100+ hours
Colton Lee
Not as mad as the tumblrites who played Kassandra as a lesbian only to find out she is a canon breeder in the DLC.
Justin Martinez
>lines were written implying a male protagonist anyway.
the lines in question are different depending which one you've chosen, dumbass.
Caleb Walker
>I watched the ending on youtube retard. I hope you're not serious. Either way the odyssey ending is actually damn great.
Oliver Richardson
Its the novel/comic or whatever it is, haven't read it Based
Mason Howard
Heil der Ubireich
novelization that centered on the main questline had Kassandra as the MC and Alexios as the final boss
I've played about 80 hours, the only side quests i've done are the Lost Tales of Greece and some normal ones, i haven't finished the main story, although there's only one chapter left. It's a great sightseeing game, climbing up a mountain and looking at the beautiful horizon is probably the best thing about this game. Sadly, all the rest of the game is extremely uninspired and uninteresting.
Joseph Rivera
Is there not a flirt option where you make an innuendo about thrusting your spear into a woman, that ends up being the same when playing kassandra?
