For me personally, I usually do male for my first run in rpgs, it's easier to self insert and I generally like romancing straight women if that's a thing in the game. But I might make a female character for future runs, for fun.
In games with predefined characters, like shmups and fighters and the ilk, I somewhat favor girls because they're cute and generally more fun to play as.

Playing as female must be the most gay shit one can possibly do. You never see females larping as males in these games except for obsessed fujoshits because they are actually happy with their gender. If you do this then either seek help or be an hero.
