because you grew up jaded and deep down hate video games now

It was the humanoid figures, they looked weird next to the cartoon style of Mario.

I only found Dong City soulless, the rest of the game was fine.

Because it looks like an early PS3 game

>caring this much about graphix

Because soul to children generally means realism.

Mario Odyssey is literally the most soulful Mario game Nintendo has put out in atleast a decade you contrarian fuck

Mario 64 and Sunshine are fucking LIGHTYEARS ahead of odyssey it's honestly embarassing that Nintendo would move so far backwards in that respect. Fucking hell.

Mario 64 sure, but Sunshine is janky as fuck and did not age well.

I dont know what youre talking about, its one of the few switch games i own and it was the first fun to play one since 64

Because it’s not Mario 64 for you.

I watched a video which had a boss fight from this game which was a dragon in a completely different art style that looked like it was from the unity asset store, wearing a stupid hat to make it le silly, and it put it's head on the ground for mario to jump on it.

You have absolutely no argument to why either of those games are "lightyears ahead." It sure as hell isn't the movement.

Came here to post this. Not even a nintenfag, Odyssey had infinitely more soul than any other recent AAA game

This.

How the fuck was it soulless? Because it's didn't have the bland Mario model from Galaxy and wasn't totally set in space and didn't have an epic orchestral soundtrack? Odyssey is the most soulful Mario game probably since NSMB DS, before NSMB went to shit. It's the most interesting thing they've done in ages.

Shitstorm imminent.

>Mario 64 sure
Delusional lmao. You realize the level design for that game was incredibly simple right?

Because you have no soul
Sorry pal but your the one in the wrong

>Dong City

Soul, atmosphere, game-feel to name a few reasons why they're better

Nothing will top 64 ever, I don't think. It was made during peak vidya.

soul? a little bit
was it good? sadly it was just slightly above mediocre

Look m8 64 was good don't get me wrong, but you can't expect a game made 2 decades ago to eternally be the best game ever made.
>also 64>Odyssey=Sunshine>Galaxy

more like you were 12 at the time so you thought it was amazing

>image unrelated

>bland and super easy boss fights
>most interesting world ended up just being a boss stage
>having normal people in New Donk City was really weird
>majority of the moons are just gimmes

>Bowser actually has personality and decent boss music again
>soulless
Yeah, no. God, the first Bowser fight was so great when after the dialogue finished and I was expecting the same old boring generic orchestral Galaxy music only to get hit with the guitar riff instead. This game is way better for having Miyamoto back away a little more than previous.

How is 3D World? Thinking of emulating it.

Snoypony cope thread.

>855 gb

LOL

Too easy to find secrets and stars or whatever. I don't even remember what I was supposed to be collecting. I just know you'd be literally tripping over them because there were so many.

It didn't feel like you were looking for secrets or rare items. It felt like some lazy nigger threw a bunch of stuff all over the level and you have to clean it up.

>soul
Peak no argument
>atmosphere
Odyssey is way better about it.
>game-feel
No it's not, like I said the movement in Odyssey is far better and of course you use that retarded term.

>Pauline singing
>soulless
Pick one

Sunshine is the worst 3D Mario game though

Just wait for the Switch version m8. They're announcing it soon.

its probably the graphics because they were raping my eyes

snowflake arrest reply 101

>muh muh GAMEFEEL
fuck off
Odyssey at a fundamental level is fundamentally a better feeling game than 64 if you want to go that route. Mario directly moves from a standstill instead of having to arc if you run, wall kicks are much harder and less intuitive than having
wall slide jump, you can turn while jumping, and just general first gen 3dplatformer jank worked out (not to mention the camera). The thing i do like from 64 that odyssey doesnt have is sliding from a dive and jumping out if it that was fun.
Also in Sunshine they removed the fucking long jump and cappy throw/bounce is a much more fluid quick movement option than hover nozzle

Wut

New fag spotted

Ridiculous amounts of padding, emphasis on fucking online shit of all things, shitty looking UI... it's a modern game, simple as that.

>dude ground pound this hill to get a moon!
why is this allowed?

>The original concepts for the inhabitants of New Donk city were either going to be 2D humanoids, closer to Mario's design, or Earthbound characters re imagined in 3D
>Instead we got shitty uncanny valley as fuck looking humans because "LMAO MARIO THE REEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL WORLD!? THAT'S CUHRAZEE!!!!!!!!!!!"

You still didn't explain anything. You just said a couple of buzzwords.

specifically recent mario games though. since galaxy 1, every mario title has been a rehash of the generic looking new super mario bros games with galaxy 2 sprinkled in

because you listened to rabbi sheckleberg on tv and bought into the gender confusion and had your pecker carved off and now you're are just bitter with the world for it

>”THAT'S CUHRAZEE!!!!!!!!!!!"
You’re being sarcastic over what makes Mario Mario.

I just watched my 3 year old son beat it last weekend and it was incredibly soulful and rewarding the whole way through.

You're just jaded bro.

Much like how I wish Breath of the Wild had a dungeon or two, I wish Odyssey had had a traditional world with missions and Power Moons regularly. They had the introduction to the world have it and then it was the same Banjo Kazooie but with Mario.

>People complain about Galaxy’s obstacle course level design and want 64 world layouts back
>Odyssey does that
>People complain about that

Based

Odyssey is the best offline only video game from the last 10 years.

Because it didn't stick to any kind of discernible theme like Sunshine or Galaxy and was just variations on the same shit they've been recycling since NSMB

Galaxy worked because a lot of stages didn't even look like space. Everything wasn't a planetoid even if you were on something floating in a void. Sunshine being island-themed for everything was somewhat annoying though.

Because all action adventure games calling themselves 3D platformers are.

I immediately disregard the opinion of anyone who uses the 'soul vs soulless' """argument""".

Reminder that "soul" is just an advanced form of cope for people who can't deal with most early 3D collectathons being complete garbage.

ok zoomers

Yeah, this.
Contrarian Yas Forums is really tiring sometimes.

Ok zoom zoom time for boom boom little zoom zoom.

So just all of modern Yas Forums

The first Galaxy has a black space background on almost every single level. It's okay in moderation to have a space level but for a whole game it felt way too dark to be a Mario game. Galaxy 2 seemed to understand this and brightened things up a lot (and was also a way better game overall).
