DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin

Ok, so I started playing Dark Souls 2 and I am at Lucatiel’s first appearance in Lost Bastille (I also freed the pyromancer). When does this game get bad Yas Forums? So far it’s pretty fun, not to mention all the cool little metroidvania shit it has.

Lol

>When does this game get bad Yas Forums?
When you encounter optional bosses - Gargoyles. They caused frustration to the majority of ''elitist'' DS players who can't handle more than 1 enemy on the screen at the same time.

Gargoyles are easy until like new game plus 3. Why are people so shit at DaS2? Game gets bad at dragons aerie OP

Fuck you, bro. Dragon's Aerie is a great location (with annoying exploding enemies, tho). Shrine of Amana - now that's a pretty fucked up location.

Its going to get even better OP, especially when you get to the dlcs. Enjoy.

>he doesnt know how to use a bow because he's an autistic meta fag that cant get his dex to 14 because it will mess up his state points
Yeah I'm thinking you might just suck. Dragons Aerie is awful.

Yes, user. I am so bad at this game, I absolutely don't know you can reset your stats when you talk to grannies.
Shrine of Amana is awful and bow is for fags.
t. pure sorcerer player, with no weapons and shields

You're gonna be disappointed for not being disappointed.

Anyway have fun, bring a bow and level your ADP to minimum of 17. Enjoy the longest and the best souls game

>pure sorcerer player
Yep I spotted the retard. DaS2 is generous as fuck with souls. If you cant equip the short bow which requires only 12 DeX and buy some poison arrows then it's your fault you got fucked by that area. The game provides you with tools, if you feel for the communities autistic build, max dps challenge run memes that's a you problem not the game problem. In short you are terrible at the game

I beat this game thrice and never used a bow. The fuck you pansies whining about?

Says the guy who can't kill exploding enemies (and breaks all his equipment) at Dragon's Aerie. OK then.

>Lucatiel’s first appearance in Lost Bastille
>he doesn't know
user...

Somebody post that DS1 comic
Also, because there’s music, wouldn’t Shrine of Amana just be like Ash Lake with swamps?

Both the Dragon Aerie and The Shrine of Amana are great. You are both bad at videogames.

Lmao there are people out there that have beaten the game with 3 adaptability.
You can meet her at lost Bastille before no man's wharf and it doesnt change shit

I know, but both FOFG and No Man's Wharf lead to Lost Bastille so ideally you'd do both before going there.

Yeah, but you can skip No Man's Wharf entirely, no?

Sure, that'd be purposefully missing out on content though, which is fine on repeated playthroughs if you're going for a specific build, speedrun or whatever.

I’m trying to go for a Grunbeld-type character where I start off as a pure STR chad then become ‘reborn’ through respec as a STRchad who uses crystal sorceries/gear as well as pyromancies. Is bow and arrow absolutely necessary?

You can. It's optional but you can't know that on your first playtrough so everyone explored every path.

>I’m trying to go for a Grunbeld-type character
You can end up dual wielding this beauty like a Guts 2.0

Attached: L3skBlm.jpg (1408x2098, 614.58K)

You are right. Of course, soemone who's playing for the first time will explore the area because he/she doesn't know what this area has (spells, items, etc.). But what I meant was, and I'm sorry I didn't write that in my previous post, is that you are NOT obligated to beat borh forest of fallen giants and NMW before Lost Bastille. You can beat FOFG and you will be directly put at Bastille, clear the area and then go back there later. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you get to Wharf through Majula, once you pay the girl (or if you put that stone in the mechanism). Maybe I'm wrong.
Lucatiel will still be there if the boss of the area is undefeated, yes?

Forget cosplaying as Guts. Guts is a qualityfag bitchboy.

>you are NOT obligated to beat borh forest of fallen giants and NMW before Lost Bastille
Oh I mean obviously, yeah.
>Correct me if I'm wrong, but you get to Wharf through Majula
Nah you get there from the area above where you defeated the Dragonrider at Heide's. The path you're thinking about leads to Huntman's Copse.

Is No Man’s Wharf that large hole in Majula that kills you if you drop down? Does Silvercat Ring allow you to drop?

>Is No Man’s Wharf that large hole in Majula that kills you if you drop down?
Nope
>Does Silvercat Ring allow you to drop?
There's no fixed way to get down there, the game's very open when it comes to that. Using the ring, leveling your HP high enough or meeting an NPC later on that crafts a ladder for you are some of the options.

Both areas are great but they're soured by annoying enemy encounters.

It's the best in the series. It's soooooooo much better than Shitsouls III.

Thank you user, I always mix them lol.
Nope. That's something... else. Rats domain and Gutter
Silver Ring prevents damage from falls, just like that one sorcery. But you can't drop from 400 meters and expect to live.

Bow is not necessary if your not an absolute retard. Bow is just recommended for newbies and casuals because it trivializes the game

Wasn't hexer the most OP thing in Dark Souls II?

Magic was nerfed in SoFS.

DS3 is schlock. Once you lift the veil made by it’s basic bitch difficulty, you end up with a dry, dull and awkward mess of a game.
Yeah but the drop to the highest plank doesn’t even seem that high though. I’m guessing I have to go through Shaded Woods to access the Wharf?

Dark SOuls 3 was one of the worst games I've ever played. Got to the village place and quit. Never touched it again.

>I’m guessing I have to go through Shaded Woods to access the Wharf?
Go through the stairs next to Shalquoir's shack and you'll get to Heide's Tower of Flame. It's through there.

Hexes are ez mode
t. hexer on first playthrough

Ehhh??? I’m shit at exploring places lol

Yes they're pretty strong
>Dark Orb, Dark Hail, Great Resonant Soul, Scraps of Life, Dark Weapon
Are the best hexes. There is Profound Still too

You know the cat in Majula that sells the ring? Right of her shack is pic related. Just go down there.

Attached: 336621422.jpg (640x360, 71.9K)

for me it got bad at things betwixt kek. but you go right ahead and have fun, op. I'm happy for you.

Even then they're still very strong. Not so much in the DLCs though

Don't feel bad, user. I decided to replay the game last week, an currently at one DLC area and even I didn't know where is what. Not sure if I'm senile, or is DaS2 really that ''open'' with its exploration, so that it easily confuses you.

lol, I beat the gargoyles on my first try, was a typical STR build with the mace + stone ring, just R2'd them

Don't read guides and go blind. Experiment and keep trying

As a sorcerer I can confirm that sorcery is still pretty good at Sunken King DLC. At Iron King not so much (plus you NEED hex to kill Blue Smelter), Old Iron King is a fucking nightmare.

Oh I know that place. I went down there a few times but I couldn’t find a way through the door. Scratch what I said earlier. Do you have to insert some thing into the stone device?

>Do you have to insert some thing into the stone device?
Kind of, but later. One of the paths is already opened from the get go, the mechanism simply rotates the room so said path closes and a new one opens.

Spoiler.
Talk to the lady at Heide Tower, exhaust all her dialogue and she will be at that statue. Pay her (2000 souls I think) and she will move the lever. Or you can just kill her and pick the item on the floor.

adp 19 rest in hp stat thank me later

Don't want to create another DS thread.

Is DS1 PTDE worth 16 bucks? Found it on a certain key site. I've already played through the remaster 3 times and own all the other DS games on Steam, including DS2 vanilla.

Looking at the screenshots on the community hub it looks really bad compared to the remaster and I heard that the 60 fps "fix" is glitchy as hell. Why would anyone want that old port?

Attached: 1583173363046.jpg (720x1110, 939.95K)

It's not a bad game. It's a good game. It's just different than the rest of the souls games. It FEELS different, and some of the charm of the previous games is lost. However it introduces a bunch of new ideas, some executed better than others and is more souls content, which was still welcomed (at least until the third).

if you haven't realized by now that DaS2 shittalking is a Yas Forums autism meme then you are stupid

Some people were really spoiled by DaS1's amazing world building and it made them unable to form a rational, objective view on DaS2 that isn't nearly as good in this regards, but it's still a great game in pretty much every way a video game should be good.

I would say that maybe 2 areas out of the dozens will have lackluster designs but overall they will remain solid and will only get better with the dlc and lategame areas.

>Looking at the screenshots on the community hub it looks really bad compared to the remaster
lmao no it doesn't

Can't say much about the Yas Forums shitposters, but personally I beat DS1 and DS3 3 times each and still itching to play more, yet in DS2 I only did one run and never bothered with the DLC's (found the DLC's a huge difficulty spike with large groups of spongy enemies.and dropped them pretty fast).

don't waste your money dum-dum

>Looking at the screenshots on the community hub it looks really bad compared to the remaster
The remaster has fucked up lighting and effects, but since you're too blind to notice you're better off saving your money for a pair of glasses.
>and I heard that the 60 fps "fix" is glitchy as hell. Why would anyone want that old port?
I never had a problem playing at 60FPS.

I've beaten DS2 more time than DS1 and only beat DS3 once, doesn't mean anything about the games.

>most people don't even care to install DSFix so it's a blurry jagged mess upscaled to whatever their native resolution is
>no AA
>even the modded screenshots still have very blurry HUD/UI while the remaster has crisp sharp fonts and the HUD is 4K friendly
???

>I never had a problem playing at 60FPS
You can fall through the floor when sliding down ladders and occasionally get stuck at a bonfire when reversing hollowing. Also, jump and roll lengths are reduced. Durante never fixed those issues. Possibly more.

>You can fall through the floor when sliding down ladders and occasionally get stuck at a bonfire when reversing hollowing. Also, jump and roll lengths are reduced. Durante never fixed those issues. Possibly more.
I know, and those were never issues for me. You can make 99% of jumps in the game by unequipping your armor before trying even at 60 FPS. Never experienced the bonfire or ladder bugs.

>''elitist'' DS players who can't handle more than 1 enemy on the screen at the same time.
What are you talking about? There have been multiple enemy bosses in every game since Demon's Souls.

>a Yas Forums autism meme
dude enjoy the game all you want but it's universally regarded as the black sheep.

>most people don't even care to install DSFix
most people are retards, more news at 11
>so it's a blurry jagged mess upscaled to whatever their native resolution is
it's not
>but MUH 4K
fuck off

>all those bugs
never happened to me in 5+ playthroughs

It never gets bad, it's an alright game, just not as good as DeS or DS1.

Ok. I went all the way down the stairs and was stuck at a dead end though (some wooden door, puddle). Am I supposed to go upstairs somehow?

If you're going to buy on a key site you might as well just pirate it.

user seriously, what the hell
youtu.be/h1z-eQcnLLo?t=50
Did you miss the lever?

PTDE online isn't completely dead yet, so maybe I can have some fun with it.

But to be completely honest I just want to experience the SLIGHTLY different lighting system (knight/elite knight armor sets are really shiny in PTDE) and try out all the different mods since PTDE has no anti-cheat and won't ban your account.

Not sure if it's worth giving money to scalpers though.

>thread goes 27 posts without mentioning ds3 at all
>ds2fags can't contain themselves and must attack 3 out of nowhere, with no prompting
contrarian ds2faggots once again proving they are incapable of letting their game stand by its own (very few) merits.

Woah... it's almost as if... every obsessed retard does the same regardless of their preferred sequel...

Not him but I played DSII a few years back, came back to SotFS and it took me a solid two explorations to 'wait, that fucking lever in a corner I barely noticed'.
I'm clearly not the best at reading environmental storytelling.

>cherrypicking
fuck off, you probably posted one of those anyway.

Meant to say 'there's a' instead of 'that'. Weird.

2 is also my least played DaS, but that's more of a compliment of DaS1 being such an amazing game that I would rather play it, rather than the fault of DaS2 being a bad game, while DaS3 has some really amazing presentation

>found the DLC's a huge difficulty spike with large groups of spongy enemies.and dropped them pretty fast
the DLCs have very good enemy placement tho and the enemy behaviour is much more similar to DaS1 in them (they are much more vulnurable to sidestepping and backstabbing and more likely to pause and drink estus). They are also definitely not that spongy, a +10 greatsword kills the average enemy in like 2 hits

I think you should give it another chance. It's much more fun playing DaS2 with your previous knowledge from the game, it just has the most amount of options to make a playthough.

give it another chance. I think DaS2 is the much more fun playing with your previous knowledge of the game, it gives the most amount of options to progress and planning that is fun.

you are stupid if you still don't understand that being the weakest of a great series doesn't make something bad. That's exactly what I was talking about, that some people are just too stupid to understand this basic logic

fuck off.
