Filesize is bloated on this generation because Blu-Ray is just too big on itself, and in the ps3 to beggining of this generation, there was really no reason to optimize stuff.

Base console is what matters most in regards of gaming development, bro. A game that is launched for Xbox is made to run primarly on base Xbox, and then enhanced for XboneX, same thing with PS4 and PRO. Don't forget that when the "performance models" were released, PS4 was already WAAAAY forward in the console race.

So yeah, performance won this generation, as the original PS4 was the strongest base model.
