seriously how someone can use a nick like this without falling in a immense pile of cringe?, imagine ever being called like this by someone
A really good argument against democracy.
Smash 64 is unplayable but I enjoy watching the combo competitions
most modern games basically play themselves anyway
Sure, you don't need to engage with the actual gameplay aspects of a game to appreciate its characters, plot, and world. But also this
Nope. Especially if they post on ResetEra.
There are a lot of games I respect but would never be able to play, either due to complexity or difficulty.
Yes you can be a fan of a video game as long as you want to sex one of the female characters
>Twitter
>Discord
>Persona 5
>Joker
>Smash
All the worst possible things on this planet rolled into one, I guarantee it's because they've never played P5 but love it because they only own a switch and joker is top tier
fucking kill yourself
Yes.
I like the game very much because I saw lots of videos of it from Youtube.
I can't play it due to not being able to meet hardware requirenmets but it doesn't stop me from appraciating the characters, the story and so on.
I fucking hate twitch culture so goddamn much.
>Do you think people can be a fan if they have not played a video game?
Well, yeah. You can be a fan, why not? Now, if you wanna claim that your opinion is just as valid as someone who played the game? That's where I disagree
would you say you were a fan of sex despite never having it?
I couldn't get past Poo's prolugue. The game is stupid and it's shit
No.
Are Yas Forums fans/ani-fans of games they have never played that they talk about?
If you've only ever watched a game you can be like "oh the premise and characters are interesting" at best, but your opinion will NEVER be as valid or as insightful as someone who has actually played the game.
Interactivity is a core component of games, even linear ones or ones that are largely story bssed. The thrill of a boss fight, the ability to stop and look around at the scenery, the decisions you make, the way you build your character, exploring side paths and finding secrets, solving a puzzle, all of these and more are intrinsic to the experience. If you watch a game you're only getting 30% of the full experience.
What's with the incessant need for zoomers to be "part of a fandom" anyway? I feel like there's a huge need for kids to be in on the jokes and references but they don't get why they're laughing at it. It's like being the kid who says "the answer to life is 42, c'mon everyone knows that Josh!" without actually knowing what made that line funny in the context of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
>Do you think people can be retarded if they have not played a video game?
Yes.
they were (before they deleted their account lol) an underage kid who also likes persona, they don't possess self awareness
(for people not in the know, this is a shitpost because Poo's chapter has no combat and is literally just answering questions that are obvious if you aren't retarded)
At least you played it
No. If you have not played the game, what you are a fan of is a cartoon.
Had a case of this happen in real life. A friend had talked about Persona 4 before, so when I started playing it I tried discussing some of the social links and personas he used for his playthrough. A lot of the time he just brushed it off or said he couldn't remember. After nearly a month of this, I finally prodded a little harder and he said he just watched his older brother play and never touched it himself.
That's sort of the problem with this way of interacting with games is that obviously you're gonna remember it better when you actually put in the time and effort. Nothing wrong with the act itself, but I don't think playing and watching a game are inherently equal.
Yeah, why am I not surprised to see these results on fuckin' Twitter? If it was on Resetera it would be 100%.
Let's have our own poll.
strawpoll.me
Do you have one with original art?
>you don't need to be a fan of turning pages to appreciate a book's characters, plot, and world.
And that's how you know you sound like a retard.
DUDE
Yes you can be a fan of a video game as long as you want to sex one of the female(male) characters
Play? You don't play sony movie games.
Can I be a fan of the franchise if im too poor to afford the latest games?
I fucking love dmc but I have yet to play 4 and 5, and even then I know more about those games than my friends who played and completed them because they hastily did every level once and once they saw the credits never touched them again, are they fans too?
QUACK
Yes to both.
Yes, and yes
There isn't any criteria to become a fan of something, no special quota you have to hit to say you like it. It's a nebulous term with no boundaries or set definition aside from just liking something, and anyone who says otherwise is just trying to create their own arbitrary standard to present themselves as an authority. There is no gate into a fandom, and no gatekeeper.
No you poorfag
>have yet to play 4 and 5
You played the others. You like them. You are a fan of the franchise.
>hastily did every level once and ... never touched them again
Do they claim they like the game? Still fans of it, no matter how shallow.
>average IQ of people is 90
Yeah, I can tell they have spoken.
why would non-customers get to vote?
The term fan is derived from the term fanatic which implies you're obsessively devoted.
I wouldn't call anyone who hasn't and refuses to play the game a "fan".
Because shit like this would happen This poster's friend, a so-called fan can't even talk about the game with his friend nor has ever touched the game, there's undeniably not even a hint of fanatacism in him. he only enjoyed the playthrough his brother provided thereby being a fan of that specific experience.
But I can concede to the fact that you can be a fan of the music, the art or the playthrough but not the game if you haven't played it.
Here's an example; I really love playing Scott Pilgrim the videogame every once in a while with friends but I have no interest in the source material nor the movie.
In this case I am not a Scott Pilgrim fan, I only enjoyed the game itself.
because I can watch the game on twitch instead of wasting money on the game?
Some people like audio books after all
An audio book still conveys all of the words of a book
A twitch stream cannot convey gameplay
you can call yourself that but people would expect you to at least try playing it because the moment you talk about it, they'll know you know nothing about it and you're just a poser.
it's like when people talk about dragon ball z but only watched the abridged and parrot the opinions of plague of cringe
t's like people knowing about silent hill but only based it from twin perfect
Sure, but does actually playing the gameplay affect your ability to appreciate the things I mentioned? In most cases I'd say no, the story is in the cutscenes, dialogue, etc. Do you need to be the one selecting moves and leveling pokemon to like the story of the game?
I saw people saying a game is good until they played it, then they weren't that enthusiastic.
So no, I don't think you can be a fan of a videogame until you play the game.
Only if there is only one way to play the game, the game is not multiplayer, and there's only one story route.
Consider this
Also, it's possible for games to use the gameplay as a method of storytelling and that will be lost when watching someone else
Here’s a question:
Can one be an Earthbound fan if they’ve played through games like Lisa and Undertale and other Earthbound-likes, but have never actually played or watched streams of the game, and have only interacted with it through the games it’s influenced?
Yes. Even in something as simple as Pokemon, each player can have unique memories or moments that are only possible because they actually played the fucking game.
butter
>can you call yourself invested into something that you are not invested in
Because imagine being a GoT fan, I know but stick with me here, and everything is going pretty good until Netflix comes and decides that your beloved series needs to get an adaption that includes heavy marketing to get as much appeal as possible.
Suddenly your fan groups are flooded with insane numbers of people that not only will think less of you for being a nerd that read the original works but will also make it impossible to discuss anything beyond what the TV show has covered yet.
And to top it all off, Netflix turns your entire series into a joke by producing an absolutely retarded scene like that big siege at the end of the show.
>Sure, but does actually playing the gameplay affect your ability to appreciate the things I mentioned?
Its a case by case thing, yes to some, no to others, some game stories can't simply get backseated and expect to feel the same as if you were the one playing.
Any game that has some sort of decision making needs to be played, your state of mind when watching someone do something and the state of mind when you have been doing something is completely different.
No
When it comes to Sony games you can have the same experience as someone who "played" them just by watching it on Youtube so yeah I agree, not that I think you should be a fan of Sony games at all though
no you can't.
>b-but muh poll
the opinion of a twitter user has literally zero value.
>b-but that's gatekeeping
Yes.
It's possible to respect the impact the game had and recognize that it must be pretty high quality to be responsible for so many other games that one likes
You are a fan of the "influence" and "style", whatever that can be that was distilled to other games, but no, you aren't even close to being a fan of the game, you dont even know the game.
Secondaries are not fans and screeching about gatekeeping won't change that.
You cannot truely appreciate something without fully experiencing it
lets plays are a mistake

I like to watch Otzdarva play Dead by Daylight but hate playing it myself.

This is why democracy doesn't work.
This. The term 'fan' has been devalued as more and more normies want the feeling of being part of the crowd but are too laxy to even consume media.
I have spent a lot of hours on Dark Souls. I have beaten Dark Souls. I can list a shitload of trivia about Dark Souls. I am not a 'fan' of Dark Souls. I do not love it. It is a really good game, I'm glad I've played it, and I intend to play it a lot more. I'm still not a fan because the game does not mean the same thing to me that it does to many other people.
It's a simple concept but normies do not understand it because they do not know what it is like to truly love a game, to get lost in the world and have it make a huge impact on who you are.
I'd say you can definitely be a fan of it, but you cant really take part in discussions about the game mechanics. No-one will stop you, but you if you havnt played it, your understanding wont be 100%
