Why is this allowed?

It ain't against the law.

Because you were stupid enough to play this game in the first place.

Hello, this is a good card also cute!

Attached: basking-rootwalla-cropped.jpg (464x664, 125.61K)

This is why you should play blue

whats the problem? neither of them are playable.

One is given for free with the shitty starter decks. Neither are playable anyways.

Oh I see, right does the same job and is way better despite being the same mana cost and rarity

>Muh limited

That's why. I love limited but Wizards using it as a go-to excuse for filling their sets with actual trash is a little shitty. The reality is the business model of their card distribution depends on the vast majority of cards in a set being functionally worthless so people have to open lots of packs (or pay a store who opens lots of packs) to get what you want. Limited formats are a way for players to leverage the inherent shittiness of a booster pack and turn it into a skill-based competition of who can present the most functional 40-card turd.

>20+ year old card game has some cards that are better than other cards

Cute but why would a mad wizard summon random cute lizards?

your average control player

Attached: you.png (285x559, 267.9K)

I can see the complaint from people who dislike the printing of 'strictly better' cards which are a better version of an older card in all possible situations. For example, lightning bolt is strictly better than shock (although in this case shock is newer than LB). I personally don't mind so long as some effort is put in to avoid doing this all the time so you don't constantly invalidate older cards and cut the knees out from players who collected older sets. I'd even like to see Wizards print strictly better new versions of old rare cards that missed the mark completely (eg Tibalt).

Wait a minute let me take a closer look at that card

>Madness

Because it's a free lizard.

one is a tutorial card that's oonly in magic arena, the other one is a card from a real set

This is my commander!

Say something nice about him!

Attached: c17-41-mairsil-the-pretender.jpg (488x680, 106.67K)

you lose a card from your hand

That ability is really cool

That happens if you cast him or discard him.
If you're playing him with rummage abilities, he's a cantrip.

It just makes it entirely luck-based.

>rummage abilities
banned in any reasonable tourney

post coomanders

Attached: Commanders.jpg (1344x468, 749.79K)

if you cast him with madness, you would have discarded a card anyway, so its actually like you gained a card

>Odyssey was 18 years ago
what the fuck

Attached: l.jpg (1000x667, 99.3K)

Yuriko is my weeaboo waifu and I love her and her deck a lot.

yeah but you have to play cards that discard your shit or go over 7

hahahahahahah what

>Breya
Cancer

Attached: 644070_996753.jpg (748x3267, 407.28K)

I mean yeah but that's exactly why you build the deck around discarding for upside
UG madness was a very competitive deck back in those days

Attached: 1570289274133.jpg (672x936, 187.39K)

watching someone try to explain why a vintage deck is good to a new player is a weird experience to watch

This is why you start by playing casual kitchen table legacy and not standard

WotC always makes bad cards in their noob-friendly starter shit on purpose so new players are encouraged to spend more on better cards.

what part of that post didnyoubjot understand did you not understand?

well that and new players won't be able to understand why cards are good or bad when they start; for example the guy in this thread who doesn't understand why rootwalla is good

ROOTWALLA
TWO MANA
3 POWAH.

Man, watching arenafags learning about old mechanics and cards is always fun. I remember a thread where some newfag was saying that fetches were shit.

well its just wrong is the thing; theres no format where "rummage abilities" are banned because thats fucking retarded

Based white whinnies
Fuck blue control

isnt there that basic fetch IN STANDARD right now? shouldnt they realize that its good?

What is a "rummage ability" and why do you think it would be banned

Named for Rummaging Goblin.
Discard a card: Draw a card.

There're a few where you discard after you draw, and so on.

Why he thinks they'd be banned... I have no idea.

>Is that a fucking MERFOLK LOOTER in MY magic the gathering tournament? Get the fuck out of this venue.

its an ok ability that is used in a few decks once in awhile

Attached: Image[1].jpg (223x310, 31.85K)

If anything I think that can confuse people because it's not as good as the actual 2 color fetch lands but if you haven't seen those played and aren't that experienced I can see why you would think otherwise.

Surely this thread belongs on /tg/

On PW decks and Deckbuilder toolkits? Yeah they're jews.

Commander decks are good though. If I had to recommend a product for someone trying to get into MTG it would be either that, Challenger decks, or Guild Kits (which are basically build-your-duel deck). Everything else is shit you buy with store credit if you really want, including packs.

I'm familiar with the mechanic I had just never heard it referred to as rummaging specifically. Never seemed terribly useful outside some situational desperation draws and the obvious synergy with stuff like madness, but red draw is still draw.

Limited. Magic is a physical game too. We have these things called "drafts" where you play with cards from a set amount of boosters.

The card in the OP is Arena exclusive. In other words this thread should never be on /tg/ because it's only relevant to people playing arena which is a video game.

Seemed like the draw of the deckbuilder toolkits is the booster packs and the box, or at least that's why I bought one early on. You get 4 packs, some lands, a box, a bunch of jank and a couple decent cards, I'd say its a better value than the other products you lumped it in with at least. But yeah the commander decks are usually decent value and are actually playable a lot of the time.

any self-respecting tourney in the Austin area banns them though

I stuck a lot of them in my jank pauper decks at least

As a beginner player what is a cheap control deck I can craft? I've unlocked Azorius Control but I just want it to be better.
