pre sequel remastered was fun at least it was 60fps

>makes a thread
>doesn't want anyone to respond to it

2 is at the bottom just because of slag. Fuck I hate slag.

What made 1 have so much soul compare to its future releases? Is it because Gearbox had no idea what it was doing at the time and the game itself was merely experimental?

The atmosphere. It's black humor as opposed to lolsorandum like later games. Claptrap just being regular annoying robots instead of a main character for most of the game is also great.

borderlands is shit

Why did they kill off Scooter?

No Joss Whedon tier snark

switch 2 and PS and you'd be right

VA couldn’t do the voice anymore

It's due solely to the fact that the writing and dialogue aren't shoved so far into your ears that you want to kill everyone who wrote the game. Borderlands 1's soundtrack is subtle, characters are based, and writing isn't nauseatingly terrible.

All good things die young. Also the voice actor had a stroke or something, and no longer was able to do the voice and rather than find a replacement, he asked to be killed off because he was also the lead writer of the original.

none of them are good

felt like a real wasteland rpg with some soul.. before they got carried away with their reddit “WE ARE SO EPIC” style

Why the fuck is Tales so good?

>tannis' logs show her falling into insanity due to Pandora's horrible environment and crippling loneliness
>LOL SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO SMALL TALK

That's a shame, especially with what he was replaced with. Did they kill him in-game? I don't remember any of the actual plot.

1 is fun and all but it becomes an absolute slog to get through about 2 hours in. Everything is the same and the static setting gets really on to you besides the mineshaft indoor area.

Litterally everything in 1 besides skills, pacing and story(go read a book if you care about story, nerd) are better than the rest of the series though

(also he has three balls)

Is there a mod that lets me fast-forward or skip the dialogue in 3? I can mute it but then I’m just standing around for five-minute periods of time doing fuck all and waiting for the silent film to end.

it takes into account the created lore and backstory of the borderlands universe and works it into the tales story, where said storytelling and lore-faithfulness is so rarely touched upon in the actual games

I wish cryo was introduced in 2

Also does radiation seem like such a "eh" element in 3? Like i was hyped for slag, and cryo. But once radiation popped up, i just was not hyped for it. Its okay, but i still vastly appreciate cryo more in 3

The first game has revolvers, Atlas and S&S Munitions and lets any gun be elemental, that's what makes it the best one.

He died in the Tales of the Borderlands episodic games which ended up being canon to the mainline games. He gets replaced with his lardass sister which her name escapes me but maintains the redneck hick accent and general absurdness of the family line.

I miss
And i mean I fucking miss
S&S AR's. Ahhhhhh man were those so fun to use.

Why did the do what they did to maliwan guns in 3? They went from simple elemental-damage-based guns to gimmick machines

Atlas was so fucking sleek. Good naming, powerful, high end, and just majestic.
Atlas in 3 is a fucking insult to the name. It should be called Rhysion or something stupid.

I feel like jainey was gona be the replacement for scooter but they backed off after the intense backlash for her. Ellie is a better fit anyways, even if she is annoying.

Moxxi was a mechanic at somepoint, think it would have been cool if she returned to it for the series. Even if it was a mom and daughter shop or whatever with ellie.

Did they ever mention scooter being moxxi's son in 1, btw? I dont remember it being mentioned.

the first also didn't rely on gimmicky weapon characteristics, rather each brand had different positive traits and you played with whatever you wanted. game wasnt nearly as focused on having a created situational loadout as the more recent games

I am playing 3 because my friend bought it for me to coop and honestly I cannot see how this series ever took off.

Its just...I dunno I dont wanna say soulless, but constantly blathering NPCs and visual design so random and bad that it just feels like youre just running around randomly firing into space more or less, theres no feeling of setting, nothing feels grounded, no place ever feels like a real "place" just a map, its hard to explain

Atlas guns have god tier damage in 3, shame they’re fucking hideous

In the General Knoxx DLC for BL1 she reveals herself that she's Scooters mom, and then Scooter contacts you to tell you to don't try anything funny or he'll kill you like he did to the Irish guy from one of the earlier areas in BL1.

>Telltale
>good game
>Do something
>Someone get's absurdly angry despite you making a reasonable choice
>I know that guy was trying to rape all our babies and kill us, but I'm still going to betray you in a week
>Do something when no one is around
>lel just kidding, you were being watched
>Make decision, path is different for 40 minutes, then the fork in the road merges back into one path

Never bought one either, just watched them on youtube.

@ (you)
Borderlands 1 > 2 > PS > Tales from the Borderlands > 3
This is the order that they were released in. You CANNOT dispute this

I'm really enjoying BL3 especially since I fucking hate the story of these games. To me it's a double win because the game play feels way better and the writing, while being cringe still, is somehow a lot less annoying than the past games since maybe they felt a lot less confident jn their antags. Tbh I normally hate people who enjoy BL story so seeing them seethe in steam reviews makes me even happier.

B-based?!

Oh that makes sense. I turn on podcasts through that dlc because of all the driving. Must have missed it because of that.

>is somehow a lot less annoying than the past games

did you get a prescription for xanax? maybe that's why. I'm and the game just seems incredibly, endlessly obnoxious. I turned NPC dialogue volume to 0 and theres no sense of story whatsoever, running through coop I couldnt really tell you one thing that has happened in the game, its just go to point B from A kill C.

It's quite obvious you are new to the series. The previous turn the lel random to the max and have le ebin bad guy quip at you maybe twice as much as they do in this one, and have maybe 10x the claptrap dialogue. Don't even get me started on fucking Tiny Tina. It's like if the Lego movie was awful and just never fucking stopped. I play this game with podcast/music blaring all the way through and thank God cutscenes are skippable in this one. Even so, having played all of 2 a couple of times this game seems wayyy more mellow.

You say you're playing 3, but did you ever play the 1st game? The majority of us in the thread are explaining why 1 managed to create a sense of atmosphere and setting compared to the sequels. Constantly talking NPCs about irrelevant garbage contribute to how shit the series feels.

It wasn't written by literal retards so playing through it is infinitely more pleasant than having the constant out pour of nonsense that plagues the rest of the series.

>pre sequel
>above 3

3 isn't stellar but holy shit pre sequel was so fucking bad no way youve played 3 and thought it was worse

I've beaten pre sequel and haven't beaten 3 so that's why.

I don't see how you can put a game you haven't beat below a game you've beaten.

Trash.

At the time it was new and it quite go so far into the reddit-tier humor of 2. I've been playing through it recently with my brother in quarantine and I got whiplash from all the aged meme references in it so far.

I can stomach pre sequel enough to beat it. 3 is so unappealing I can't bring myself to finish it.

>1 at the top
Opinion forever discarded.

Hyperion is the best manufacturer.
don't @ me

The setting was genuinely interesting with the lore of the megacorps and the alien ruins. The allied characters like Scooter and TK were endearing because they weren't spewing reddit tier dialogue, even Scooter's jokes sounded more like something you'd hear from the Terrans in Starcraft 1. It was almost sort of immersive in the sense of your character being some selfish asshole on a treasure hunt, tying in to how you as the player are constantly trying to find cooler stuff.

he's right you know
just because bl3 gameplay has pointless "additions" like sliding or 3 shitty action skills instead of 1 reliable one doesnt mean its better

This is the first time I recall seeing the correct ranking of BL titles

I guess today OP is not a faggot for once

>1>Tales>2>PS>3
that's pretty spot on, good taste my man

So what's so bad about bl3 then? I've been waiting for it to go on a good sale but my favourite bl so far was 2 just because it had more build variety than bl1 and some more interesting guns.

On my last playthrough around lvl. 20 a god tier purple atlas shotgun dropped, and that shotgun was so fucking great that I used it until lvl. 45.

Even more so than shit like the fucked story/characters, this is the biggest reason of why this series dropped off so hard for me in quality, cause guns like that don't exist in the sequels.

BL2 is so much better than 1 holy shi,t stop this meme already, BL1 was fun for the time but 2 surpassed it almost every way conceivable.

>playing explosives build Brick
>find a two shot maliwan revolver that deals x4 explosive damage
>everything's head got jibbed from a mile away until it finally couldn't keep up with my other guns

every night i dream of a world in which we got a borderlands game with the gameplay of 2 and atmosphere/worldbuilding of 1

I just bought BL3. How much truth is there to the marketing line people were passing around a few months back about the story/tone of 3 being closer to 1 than 2?

The only improvement 2 made over 1 was giving each manufacturer a unique aesthetic instead of them all using the same parts with different skins. The combat feels like shit past the halfway mark of playthrough 2 because of the ridiculous exponential scaling and the absolute necessity of slag n swap on UVHM. 99% of the guns you find are disposable garbage because of the fucked drop rates and their expectation that you'll farm bosses.

>Borderlands 1
>Some random shmuck on a shithole planet chasing treasure for treasures sake
>Borderlands 2
>MEMBUH DAH FIRST GAME? Proceed to be errand boy for those characters
>Borderlands 3
>MEMBUH SECOND GAME: NO TOXIC CIS MALES ALLOWED EDITION. Proceed to be an errand boy for Lilith.
I wouldnt mind small callbacks to the likes of Tannis and such but for fucks sake the ending of two couldve had endless possibilities to lead into another band of no-name shmucks treasure hunting.
But nope. Gotta wank off Lilith some more because GRRRRRL POWER. ALL MEN ARE INCOMPETENT.
Fuck me BL3's writing makes me want to shoot myself.
Game play of 2. Atmosphere of 1. Company identity of 3. Boom. There. Thats all you have to fucking do.

>closer to 1 than 2
?
It's not close to either. Also, I hope you skip the cutscenes or else you're going to meet the most annoying character ever made.
