So what's the catch? I'm serious, in pvp how can anyone other than another sorcerer stop me? My range is insane, my magic is strong and fast due to putting everything into INT and DEX. Yeah i'm a glass cannon, but with my mantis flip coin, YA CAN'T KILL WHAT YA CAN'T CATCH! So how do you beat them user?
HOLY FUCK IS MAGIC OP!

All of your spells can easily be rolled.
All of your spells can easily be blocked with the crest shield.
Anyone with a katana, curved sword, or spear can easily chase you down.
nobody plays dark souls 1 pvp anymore so it doesn't really matter
>*launches u*
The only time sorc build worked in pvp was early dark souls 2 before they nerfed everything
Will never be not mad about the moonlight greatsword nerf
>uses greater magic barrier
>keks in invincibility
>One shot dark bead b4 that could possibly happen
Buffs you can just run away from and wait out. Most spells can be somewhat easily rolled through and castings are limited.
Magic seems OP only when you're dealing with morons who can't dodge and suck at the game.
I miss DaS1 PVP. Even all the giantdads and pursuers/dark flame fags.
>So what's the catch?
the Archives
That period of DS2 was hilarious, because 80% of people were running the same buffed moonlight greatsword build in the arenas, and you could stack armor and consumables and get 90% magic damage reduction against them. It was funny as hell watching them realize nothing they had on them would deal damage
>roll
wow, very hard.
ez mode: great magick barrier for 95% magic gmd reduction
I can literally run around you and backstab you with my +10 chaos rapier before you can land a spell. Then I can backstab you again before you can even get up if you don't die from the first one, or I can black flame or chaos firestorm before you get up and you'll die off anyway. Your only option is dark bead which can't hit through rolls. What do you do?
Because I can do this
> So how do you beat them user?
>laughs in GMB
Me too. I miss when DS1 was the only Dark Souls. It was a simpler time.
Spellcasting builds have always been hilariously overpowered in Souls games until DaS3 where spells, miracles and caster melee weapons in particular got fucked to the ground. Biggest thing is that the stats which your spells scale by also have relevant weapons that scale based on INT or FAI so you get spells, melee and utility in one package, whereas STR or DEX characters only improve melee damage with no additional benefits. And to top it off, with few exceptions and hard-counters in both PvE and PvP, elemental DMG is usually harder to defend against than physical DMG.
Late stage Dark Souls PvP is one of the most depressing things imaginable. The PvP right after 1.05 came out was so fun until the autists found out about toggle escaping or any of that gay shit that plagues the game's PvP now. That and coming to PC didn't help.
You call that a swap?
DS3 was a massive disappointment with caster content. Everything was either vanilla or garbage, usually both.
>sorcery catalyst that has a FTH requirement but only scales with INT
bravo Miyazaki.
This is big true. Magic has never actually been viable in pvp against anyone with a brain, I guess sorta in 3 but it's mostly abusing Demon Scar which is actually just a curved sword r1 with magic in the combo
I will never not be mad that there isn't a dark pyromancy flame to match the look of Onyx Blade's buff. NEVER not be mad.
desu not sure why would someone seriously complain about the magic in PvP when the best spells are the weapon buffs. my SL100 nopoise flipping katana wizard was all good in oolacile, maybe because people didn't expect a crappy looking build to play well.
nevertheless, the game is supposed to be played by moving and dodging better than your opponent, and magic one of the most reliable things to dodge when you get it down.
KEK user absolute gold
Why even stack anything when the rebels greatshield exists. It blocks 95% of all magic damage types and is a greatshield
latency issues is what made people hate magic builds
This but a good caster manipulates the environment, free aiming, and quirky spells like hidden weapon and chameleon.
Thank Remaster for that shit.
*lags*
I loved this spell, I always put it down on my faith builds with twop just in case I ran into a dark bead spammer. Dealt no damage and couldn’t run while I blast them with lightning point blank or a blessed sword if that didn’t work
there is no catch
game is just janky as fuck
DS3 is the first one that is actually balanced and polished
>b-but bloodborne though
janky ass. leveling is broken and "builds" are non existent and basically amount to using a slightly different weapon
Chameleon is the mvp spell. Disguises your cast times and the dissolve effect can confuse people to the moment of the cast.
>in pvp
Are you gay? Who in the fuck wastes any serious effort on motherfucking Dark Souls PvP
I only have to hit you once Faggot
I'll just combustion your ass
I always run light armor so I can deal with idiots like you, also flip ring became ass after later updates, best to run FaP and wolf ring for that small poise bonus, All I had to do was put a few points in ATT, hope you like my 2h lightning +5 Zwei with Grass crest on my back
webm not related
If Dark Souls 3 had actual poise and decent areas for invasion it'd probably be my personal favorite. But playing the series for early/mid invasions is pretty dead at this point. Even if you go out of your way not to really twink and just offer a cool experience for you and the host, there will always be some faggot twink summon that won't let you have fun. Dark Souls 3 is so dead in the mid game you can never find invasions, and trying to find a host without a cringe phantom in the areas leading up to Farron Keep is nearly impossible.
hit me
I dare you
>GMB
>You die
Wow so hard
There is no catch, it's just an easy mode for Kotaku journalists
DS2 duels were so much fun
It was a surprisingly fun build to both make and actually play in PvP. I had long ago learned to beat the build with various of my own ones, but taking it to fights and finding it useful even against many of the active PvPers & metafags.
It was also truly the most satisfying build to punish gankers with, holy shit what a rush.
Agreed, but rather than toggles, I found the biggest problem to be the builds aimed to max out critical damage in a game that already has very high critical damage is what made it more stale. The guy in that webm doesn't have shitload of HP and armor so he could just tank damage, it's to prevent oneshots. But if you see a trick like that coming, it's also easy to counter with a backstab and now it's your turn to have a chance to kick and backstab chain them.
Two SL130+ builds with minmaxed stats are the most boring fights, while in the same category the more unique multi-option builds were the most intense shit.
*magic barriers*
>127
yeah another build brainlet, an easy kill for my mundane hexer
Those i-frames and that parry range is revolting, but I can't deny the skill on display.
>ds1 pvp was fun
sure was, too
Lore thoughts time. Bros, I don't know if it's been said ages ago, but I have a feeling ghrus supposed to be the enemies in that cut God's Grave area. This looks just like Oceiros, and there aren't these blue growths anywhere else in the world. The concept art had gravestones with growths in them.
Also the boss door in Smouldering Lake has that darksign looking weird hole thing that's in all the God's Grave assets. And both Smouldering Lake and God's Grave concept art have arch trees. That's a suspicious amount of reused assets/ideas between the two.
Thanks for reading my blog.
EDIT: thanks for the gold, kind stranger!
How would you fight OP, post your builds

Here's mine

I didn't even stop there I pumped him to 150 something roughly
it's not supposed to be a good build if you could tell from the ring and spell choice
literally just roll
let me show you the tool that makes pyromancy a force to be reckoned with an ultimate weapon which changed the power balance of duels all together Demon's Scar.
i had a lot of fun with ds1 pvp even though it was fucked to all hell
I never noticed that those growths were the same as the ones on ocieros. That's cool.
How lame.
>This many people giving a fuck about the unbalanced clusterfuck that is Dark Souls PVP
Don't get fooled. Please just go play a real modern fighting game like Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, fuck it, even Granblue Versus or some shit. Fuck it, you can even go play Smash, just PLEASE don't spend more than 9 seconds on that trash fire.
That's because the actual key to spellcasting in DS2 is hexes since they deal magic and physical damage and have physics so they can break your guard.
>Magic-infused Magic Shield blocks 100% of magic
>Dark-infused Leather Transgressor’s Shield blocks 100% dark
>dump points into endurance and dex
>turtle and poke with sharp stick
but I can't build a custom character from scratch
fighting games don't have invasions either
I do play fighting games
They're fun in different ways.
People that say stuff like this almost never actually play fighting games themselves
but those games are 2d
>I can't build a custom character
You literally can't in Dark Souls either. There's only two incredibly unfun and viable builds you can do. If you try to have fun or do a joke build, you'll just get wrecked by a cookie cutter idiot in Havel's.
>fighting games don't have invasions either
This is fair, but how often are you organically invading someone and outwitting them? Most likely they have intentionally gone human to invite invasions or RREEE that you're not fighting with "honor". Plus, if that person isn't specced for PVP(they will be), you're just gonna roll in with havels and kill them in one hit anyway.
Garbage PVP.
Nah
I like my 3D swords and magics very much, and the game isn't so hard as to not warrant learning to abuse all the jank to your advantage. the best part about it is that it rewards creativity and unpredictability more like shooters do and less like fighters do.
>3D swords
>In a game where the lag compensation is so fucking bad that footsies literally don't exist
>the best part about it is that it rewards creativity and unpredictability
But it doesn't though, you either roll Havel's or some other meta shit and shit stomp people who aren't or you run joke builds and die to idiots rolling the meta. Dark Souls PVP sucks.
>You literally can't in Dark Souls either. There's only two incredibly unfun and viable builds you can do. If you try to have fun or do a joke build, you'll just get wrecked by a cookie cutter idiot in Havel's.
untrue, I only do gimmick builds and shitty cosplays, you just gotta find a good balance
>This is fair, but how often are you organically invading someone and outwitting them? most the time it's outwitting gank squads actually, or just fucking with them
even against a gank squad, a solo invader has a ton of options, especially depending on what SL you build for and what area you plan to invade. Be a greatbow rat or soul stream sniper and rain hell.
>you'll just get wrecked by a cookie cutter idiot in Havel's.
>died to a havel cosplay invader one time and has been seething about it for years
>Great club isn't crystal
You're gonna need to be able to fit a lot more dicks in your mouth than that if you wanna roll with the big leagues in DaS1
>using metabuilds
but then everyone just automatically knows your every animation and strategy beforehand
the best way to hit an enemy is to do something they're not ready to avoid or prepared to deal with. havels eat up fire like shit, for example, and many of them don't have more than 56 poise.
>cast gmb
>copetard mage shoots an spell
>10 dmg
>walk at him slowly
>dab with zweihander
mage is cope tier in pvp
that looks like old pre-patch footage from the bad old days of greatsword+offhand lance horseshit
>durr ds2 is good now that it supports my argument
the PS3 megamule didn't necessarily give you any crystal weapons, probably because of this specific reason
sure, you could just add them infinitely, but why not use better hacked weapons at that point?
It's hilarious how many different ways DS2 was broken.
My favourite was the infinite l1-r1 combos when broken straight swords were actually almost meta because they had the lowest stamina consumption in the game
