Do you think emulation should be illegal?
Do you think emulation should be illegal?

It should be mandatory.
I think it should be encouraged
For games on the market, yes. For games off market, no.
Thats a very bad linear take on the matter.
>oh no Nintendo might have to drop the price of the Switch to something reasonable instead of fucking $300
>this will destroy the whole industry somehow
>they still haven't dropped the price anyway
This makes me want to take up emulating.
There are far too many minors on Twitter.
I mean yes, of course, its a way to bypass buying consoles and games.
Even then I find such comments as "disgusting" and "you ruin the industry" to be exxagerated, calm down a little, child. Your favorite multimillionaire videogame company is not gonna die, and people like me who can't even buy them because we are poor are gonna enjoy them.
What is Yas Forums's opinion of cdromance?
Only corporate bootlicker care. I'm just going to keep playing the 9000+ games I have downloaded on my recalbox
It's pretty autistic that the Switch is getting proper emulation before the Xbox/360 but emulation is a good thing overall.
its not really a bad take because it is really fucking easy to create a dividing line between the two groups.
you can create a couple possible definitions as a "what about games out of production but still rotting on shelves" or "games where the dev is dead but some reseller bought the rights and is reprinting it into the ground", but the answer is that all of those cases can easily be sorted into either the 'do' group or the 'dont' group depending on personal bias and then that person can stick with their decision.
I thought emulation of consoles and games that you do not own in some format was illegal already?
making emulation of things you own illegal again would be a dumb-ass move however
you should be allowed to run and modify hardware and software in any way you want aslong as it does not impact the experiences of others
dunno about other places but in EU this is the current legal stance atleast which is nice
Consoles should be illegal
All I know is that I genuinely cannot wait for Nintendo's hardware division to flop hard so they HAVE to release their games on other platforms besides mobile, if that ever happens.
Yes, I wish it would be harder for me to play video games I want to play. I also wish that if I chose to play them that way there was a risk of me getting punished. I have these opinions because I don't want a massive corporation I have no connection to or stake in to lose money.
For Nintendo consoles yes, for other consoles no.
Obviously not, intellectual property laws are already an infinite cuckoldry festival, why would you want to lose the right to cleanly reverse engineer things?
*minorities
On the topic of emulators, just found out that I can't find a downloadable rom for pokemon b/w
Depends how old the game is and whether or not if I could go into a electronics store and buy it right at this very moment. If it's out of print, then it's free reign. Pirating is an all around scummy practice, and it's why Japan has been cracking down on it so hard as of late.
Let me elaborate, games that no longer have physical production should be allowed to be emulated. Games that are still in physical production (I.E. still making and shipping physical coppies) should not be allowed to be emulated.
>people today naturally hone into business ethics but can't see why israel is wrong
Have they won?
No
copyright is gay
Nintendo is cracking down hard on romsites since they were seething over Cemu and Yuzu but there are still places where you can get roms if you know where to look.
Not him but what about games that were always digitally distributed?
I agree with your sentiment but I think an easy cutoff point is ~5 years after release.
It's literally the only way the vast majority of games were be available in the far future. The industry is not interested in future proofing or creating an archive of games for historical purposes, and nothing else has really sprung up to take that role
Well that sucks, any links?
Aren't emulators already considered legal? It's the distribution and ownership of illegally distributed roms that isn't.
Anyway, anyone that thinks emulation should be illegal is a dumbass. There have been numerous studies on how emulation / piracy has a very minimal, if any, impact on game sales, and if Sunsoft isn't willing to rerelease Mr. Gimmick on modern platforms, I see zero reason why I shouldn't be able to play it in an emulator over having to spend a ton of cash on a Famicom and a cartridge
Nice try Miyamoto
Yes. They literally promote stealing games.
>b-b-but they're meant to play backups!
Right. "backups." I'm sure everyone in the history of ever has only ever used backups they've personally created themselves with games they've already paid for.
this is cherrypicking. Switch owners also have great PCs. The fags you find on twitter are just kids, so obviously they are sperging out. Snoyboys are different however...
nintendo looses literally zero money when i play a game they don't sell on a system they don't sell
Of course, it is because of emulation that connoisseurs adopt shitty practices like always online, microtransactions, etc.
Objectively false. You aren't entitled to a piece of entertainment you don't own, period. You either buy the game and play it, or you don't.
Are these people brain damaged?
No they're just corporate bootlickers.
Someone should tell Disney that.
>objectively false
Are you sure? Me buying second hand cartridges at a flea market gives Nintendo nothing, so why should I feel bad about downloading emulators and ROMs which also don't profit them? Because some guy DID buy it in the 90's and is now charging inflated prices because it's "retro"? Fuck off.
This.
>stop selling game
>only way to play it is emulation or paying 10 times the price to a scalper/reseller
>nintendo gets no money from you either way
>"NUUUUUUU UR STEALING IT!!!!!!"
Of course not. Distribution of ripped software for current gen games should be, though.
>Switch owners also have great PCs.
That's why no one begs for switch ports of games, right?
Thats the problem, you're creating way too many definitions that companies will use as excuses, or will get loopholes for.
In a perfect world I would get games for free and other people would have to pay for them.
Anything that makes niggers, spics, BRs, slavs, chinks and any other minority's life harder is fine in my book. Death penalty to emulators.
I just wanted to play pokemon b/w
enlightened post

You aren't entitled to a piece of entertainment you don't own, period.
Back to work Paco.
It should be the standard
I'm not a chicano, I'm a BRAZILIAN BVLL
They want you to buy their old games on their virtual console. If it's not on there tough shit and pray it might get added some day.
so if I have a copy of the game, I can copy it onto my PC and emulate it?
I would own it but the company that made it doesn't sell it
so emulation is the only way to play it
sorry if this makes your retarded hoarder brain short circuit
>there are actual nintensoys who snitched on them by reporting them to Nintendo's DMCA police
Holy fuck, end yourselves.
>second-hand doesn't exist
>buying from some scalper
>the people that made the game get nothing
Indie games should be pirated day 1.
Do you own the game? Then you know the answer.
You aren't entitled to a piece of entertainment you don't own, period.
No, because when you buy the game files, you're only borrowing the license to the game, you don't own the game itself. Mario, for example, is solely owned by Nintendo of Japan, so you'd need their express written permission to put their game on your PC. And I doubt you personally know Miyamoto so that will never happen.
