No!

Yes.

No. Those things make TF2 fun. Sure, you get pubstomped once in a while, but you also get to do it sometimes too. It's a casual game and it's fun.

>It's a casual game and it's fun.
So why the falling popularity and dying player base?

You think it took twelve years for people to finally get sick of pubstompers, you absolute buffoon?

If you wanted to make a TF2 thread you could have just asked.

It's not the sole-reason, but those elements do not help the situation either.

>falling popularity and dying playerbass
This game has been around for 13 years and you can still find a full lobby in seconds, it’s doing fine. If valve would release a fucking update the player numbers would skyrocket instantly.

See . Also, lack of support from Valve.

its not dipshit. its up 70k players this month compared to the usual 40k-50k which proves that teamwork.tf 5k playerbase is a fuckin myth

Reason is most toasters struggle harder to run it, if they optimized their shit instead of adding whatever hat/effect/skin is popular and has potential of selling more. Fortnite is as popular as it is because it runs on everything, valve should be focusing on that instead of shrinking their installbase by releasing experimental technology for the people with a lot of disposable income.

Nah, the reason it is dying is because of matchmaking

The fast growing population of hackers is the only reason I quit this game last year. I've also got thousands of hours in the game like most of us, but even if you can still compete with them a pull a match or two against them it's a lot more frustrating than it is fun. I literally used to pay to be admin on the servers I played on specifically so I didn't have to deal with the vote ban system but now that the server browser is dead there's just no point anymore.

Bots don't count as players.

community servers are making a resurgence
sans some weapons not working like they used to, the experience is pretty much there
t. december 2009

90% of "meta" weapons are basically crutches; both in and outside of compfags who use it.
How come nobody brings this up? If something is inherently better even outside of a well-organized team (try using Boston Basher in a PUB) there's something wrong with it.

Attached: Fine1.jpg (476x480, 37.42K)

It's a bunch of things.
>Lack of communication with the dev team, inexcusable for a game of TF2's size and influence
>Nerfed all the fun shit (Sticky Jumper, Caber, Buffalo Steak Sandvich, etc.) when they could've just banned the items in competitive so they'd stop bitching
>Casual matchmaking completely destroys community servers, only community servers that stay alive require ecelebs
>Competitive matchmaking was a bad idea from the start and if it was removed literally nobody would care
>Heavy needs a new playstyle badly, everybody else has received weapons/items that completely change how the class is played
>Tens of thousands of bots inflating the player count and shitting up servers

Valve refuses to just hand development over to a third party team who can support the game and its playerbase. It's not like the TF2 team is big enough to actually listen/act upon feedback. Even if TF2 never got an update again it'd still have thousands of people playing for at least the next decade, but they're sitting on a fucking goldmine and refuse (or are unable) to do shit about it.

Uncle dane and mym unironically ruined this masterpiece.

100% not dwindling has more player playing than in previous years

I'm disappointed at its decline despite its passionate fanbase and a lack of communication and prioritization from Valve, but at the same time, the game will be 13 years old in a few months.
That is an absolutely insane lifespan for an FPS to still be "officially" supported and not just put out to maintenance and occasional HD touch-up porting.

Honestly only thing that hurts is shit that Valve puts resources towards, outside of the Dota 2 and CSGO money printing machines, is shit like random pet projects and dead-on-arrival crap like Artifact.

scriptkid fortress 2

Everyone except this guy
have no idea what the fuck they're talking about.

The game is fine but you literally cant blink without having some sort of aimbotter in a lobby shitting it up, the only reason the playerbase and long standing fans are leaving is because VAC does literally nothing and the game is unplayable having to deal with these people in every match, there's aimbotters in comp, aimbotters in casual, aimbotters in community servers pretending they're not aimbotting.

i unironically want to hear demoman speaks normaly not screaming every word like in game

Part of the problem for sure. Ideally almost every match should be somewhat balanced but you should also run into games where you have to struggle or can mess around and still win.
Playing against better players is what makes you better but only if your team has a few too. Crushing weaker players is also great since it counters the feeling of being crushed and lets you know you are improving.
Cheaters, balance, slow matching and stale maps is the other part I think.

65k bots for 5k players doesnt add up

just use a tripcode so i can filter you

Don't you know cheaters are not a problem the cheater told me so trust him bro he's totally legit and not sketchy at all

There are multiple issues
>no sign of worthwhile updates in the foreseeable future, at best there might be another case of shitty hats released
>bloated filesize/content due to forgotten features and failed experiments
>playerbase is mostly diehard veterans who refuse to let go or complete noobs who just installed the game two days ago and have no idea what's going on
>infested with aimbots
>community servers are dead outside of meme gamemodes like x100 or deathrun
>source engine being what it is

>you should also run into games where you have to struggle or can mess around and still win.

That works if one team is better than the other.

What usually happens is that one team are full of average players just trying to win

Meanwhile, the other team have a number of players who are fucking around with class picks, meaning that most of the enemy team will focus on you

Matchmaking was a mistake.
It's 2020 and exp is still useless.

>community servers are making a resurgence
No they aren't

aint my fault you dont know where to look

but muh badge

No it's just the matchmaking killing any semblance of community, servers being filled with economy bots, and the blatantly obvious fact that the game has been on failing life support for years.

Mostly this. The "updates" are long gone. Now it's just hurr new effects and hats or some community jungle/event/canyon/etc map
and the game is 13 years old

animations look like a toy story psone game

TF2 sucks donkey dicks but there's no other game like it so I'll continue to play this heap of garbage until either my favorite community server dies or Valve makes TF3.

just don't get hit :^)

>We're never getting another love & war update
>no update at all now
>nothing just silence
It's not right, tf2 don't deserve this bros

cute possum dude

i like deleting sentries in 2 rockets

How tf is pubstomping real? TF2 is easy as fuck

They keep dropping support for new game modes entirely. MvM was the only exception. Everything else they just do 1 map and then go 'fuck it' and it's gone forever. Can't even keep track of all the abandoned modes now. Hydro was beginning but then there was doomsday, the grappling hook mode, the soul collection thing, and not to mention all sports-esque things left to die. Killing off arena mode also sucked even if it was always ultra niche.

idk Yas Forums is garbage at tf2

Most people are garbage at TF2

>If Valve would release a fucking update
They did and it wasn't enough to save it so they stopped trying and focus all their efforts on CS:GO and actually relevant games

Attached: file.png (512x250, 255.64K)

Pubstomping isn't exclusive to TF2, it's a thing in CS:GO as well and CS:GO is literally bigger than ever.

>Do you think pubstomping and unbalanced teams are the reason for TF2's falling popularity and dwindling player base?
The popularity is falling because the game has been shit for almost a decade at this point and even if it was still good, no game lasts forever except for Tetris

no, its the matchmaker being total fucking garbage compared to quickplay or the server browser, plus the game having god awful netcode and performance in general
also the cheater infestation that they won't lift a fucking finger for

>the grappling hook mode
That shit is fucking kino and fun as hell.

They made money from it though. In fact, in any update that adds new community items or even maps they make free money from using already existing content. The question is why they don't do it more often and encourage people to come back for more by actually implementing stuff besides exploit fixes

>They made money from it though. In fact, in any update that adds new community items or even maps they make free money from using already existing content
Yeah and the same effort can be used on CS:GO for better returns. Whoop de fucking doo your 13 year old lootbox gambling simulator had a player spike for one month and then went back to be dead. Why would they fucking keep working on it at that point? It's dead.

I think the fact the game is more than a decade old and has stopped receiving updates is the reason for TF2's falling popularity and dwindling player base

>lootbox gambling simulator
>defending CS:GO
ironic, go back to LGBTwatch or whatever shithole you came from at once, dog

>Same exact monetization model
>Somehow TF2 has the moral high ground
Also when did I even imply lootshit was defensible you massive retard?

Because as much as some people who've literally been playing quake for the last 30-ish years shitpost about it being easy, the fact is that tf2 is harder than most of what's on the market right now
the fact that every match is liable to become a musou with 1-4 superhumans and a bunch of extras on each team is part of what makes it fun

You claimed that CS:GO was actually relevant as opposed to TF2. What puts TF2 in this spot according to you? It's player count? It's problems and flaws? Both can be improved / corrected thanks to updates, at least for the most part. CS:GO is dipping it's toes in shit like avatar customization like TF2 did, and these choices can never be went back on because of economyshit so don't try to imply that TF2 is "morally inferior" to CS:GO or whatever the fuck your point is besides muh dead game

Wrong reply, meant for

No.

I don't think it is has dwindled that much but the shitty matchmaking certainly fucking killed any enjoyment i had out of tf2.

i'll never forgive them for it.

Attached: EONHvo9WkAAjrHs.jpg (1066x1200, 162.09K)

Game's player bases don't last forever. Not a single one does.

you know, it seems to me that matchmaking's existence coincides with the start of the fall, when I started having trouble finding NA servers after 11 pm, when I started seeing the same names over and over again on the same maps. so, no, pubstomping isn't the problem, the matchmaking, and the one-and-done systems that came with it, are the problem.

Are you people actually clinically braindead?

This game is over 10 years old. Of course people get tired of it. And the one billion cheaters and furry fags everywhere aren't helping.

How is any of this even demanding a thread or a question?

Every developer fucks up online mode now. Halo, Monster Hunter, everything got matchmaker'd

jungle inferno failed because it had next to nothing in terms of content and it caused tf2 to be spammed with the most widely hated class in the game for weeks

Give the game an update made by anyone less incompetent than valve and it all would have been much different

mym killed it, compfags ruin everything

Attached: 1434786108248.png (430x430, 323.55K)

No. I think it's because it is a fucking old ass game and eventually people move on to new games.

>muh compfags
Valve ruined the game along with the shit community complacent with getting shit on a platter from valve.

this is a stupid fucking post and you should kill yourself

true, but it hurts the most in tf2.

the game was live and well, there was no need for it.
