Man, this expansion was really great, first time I really loved doing the MSQ.
The OST, art direction and story of this expansion were all superb imo.
It's a shame this game doesn't really feel like an MMO, not even a RPG to be honest, it completely lacks any kind of customization or even incentives to be social and the only kind of challenge you'll have in the game is in high end tiered raids, but that's not really my thing I guess. Aside from high tier raids, everything is so easy, it ultimately becomes very, very boring.
Anyone else here also only plays the MSQ and then never touches the game until the next expansion?
I feel like you took the words right out of my mouth. I loved the tone, aesthetic, world design and definitely the music of 5.0. As a standalone it probably has my favorite FF story
But the game is just okay. What it does well it does really well, the bosses are fantastically designed and varied enough to stay interesting. But it's practically more a lobby game than an MMO and there's hardly an RPG aspect to the game at all. Compared to XI when was practically like playing a turn based FF game where 99% of progression was gear building
Adrian Smith
main problem is it's a social game but the people in the game stuck it's eternally reddit on aether
Samuel Allen
I'd say it's as much of an mmo as anything else nowadays, and it's a JRPG style RPG.
Grayson Johnson
Shadowbringers had a bright honeymoon phase. People were really enamored the expansion's story content. To be fair it was really good. Worthy for being a Final Fantasy title. Outside of that the cracks clearly show. Content-wise, Balance-wise, Priority-wise the expansion is pitiful. The constrictive systems in which the game operate are really showing.
Lincoln Edwards
People who complain about the game not being "MMO" enough are usually the autists who don't have any friends and blame the game instead.
Michael Torres
I mean they've been showing since 2.0. We got larger content updates at the time but the game was just as limited then as it is now. Same endgame structure. Same fight structure. Same hallway dungeons. Exact same progression
I guess it does wear after 4 identical releases though. Another XI comparison but every XI expansion had a completely different style of endgame while mostly keeping the previous stuff relevant. XIV just does more of the same while trivializing the content from the previous expansion so that theres rightly always the exact same amount of things to do
Grayson Lewis
It doesn't compare as a RPG to any of the good MMOs out there (aside from wow, which it copies).
>ffxi >ragnarok >maple story >ultima online >everquest >old runescape
It's still a good game with a competent single player campaign, but it's just not a good RPG or MMO.
As user said, after you finish the MSQ, it's just a lobby game where you're waiting for the next dungeon or raid, nothing else to do, no choices in customization of your character, and anything else aside from those raids is extremely easy and mind numbing.
Christian Bailey
Pretty much. As a story it's great, as a game it's lacking. Worth subbing once month at the start and once at the end of each Xpac, not much beyond that.
Adam James
Furthermore with how constrictive socializing is in this game it would be better off as a single player game. I almost wonder what I pay a sub for.
Nathaniel Perry
Give me a break, you'll play the MSQ for at least 300 hours, how many of those involve other people? Almost none. Even when you do need people, it's faster and easier to just use the duty finder.
Liam Ward
I thought this would finally be the expansion where they take some risks and change the way the game is played, even if a little, I don't know, maybe give the player a little choice in how they build the characters.
Well, nope, exactly the same game, but now you have a good story at least.
Bentley Taylor
CHILLING OUT WITH THE CREW IN THE SCHOOLYARD FINDING TROUBLE NEVER LOOKING TOO HARD
>I thought this would finally be the expansion where they take some risks and change the way the game is played You forget the fact that most of this game's profit is made off mog station whales. The actual subs numbers pale in comparison to fantasia addicts. These people aren't gonna want to play a game that's not simple and straightforward. They're not even subtle about it either. There's a literal whale that you can buy for a ridiculous price. They know exactly who they're appealing to. The cash shop was a mistake (especially for a sub-based game).
The gameplay is a whole lot more fun than wow, I am just leveling my jobs all to 80 now, finished with tanks and healers and crafters, just dps now, mch is really fun and easy to use while zoning out and watching a tv show while doing raids or dungeons
Lincoln Barnes
fuck you that why i fucking hate shadowcuckers fucking cuckshit trash fucking jap cuck devs
Josiah Morgan
All that and they still look as generic as it gets I don't understand. XIV doesn't even have an interesting character creator or particularly diverse races
Charles Hughes
>The gameplay is a whole lot more fun than wow How? With the exception of raids you just stand in one spot doing your rotation. At least in WoW Classic you have to use LoS, interrupts, threat management, and calculate your pulls somewhat.
Sebastian Wood
it have a fucking cuck bitch protag too man the wol is fucking virgin ass cuck bitch man he lose fight in every fucking cutscene he lose his girls to faggot npcs lol the wol is a fucking pussy
Evan Torres
>At least in WoW Classic you have to use LoS, interrupts, threat management, and calculate your pulls somewhat. don't forget crowd control mechanics, which might as well not exist in xiv lol
Jayden Scott
Not that user but boss design, both visually and mechanically, is straight up a lot more interesting in XIV. Like it's not even a contest
Yes the leveling process is complete shit and everything outside of those fights isn't particularly interesting, but the bosses blow WoW out of the water
Kayden Baker
>1% of the game has better gameplay sure i can give you that i guess.
Carter Clark
To me every boss in XIV looks like a pink floyd lazer show inside a circular arena with literally no exception. Maybe doing a ballerina dance around some circles is interesting to you, but at least WoW bosses are in cool dungeons and feel like actual monsters in the game.
Robert Scott
what does this even mean
Brayden Rodriguez
Which part are you struggling with?
Grayson Bennett
>finally on the same level and parse numbers relatively as my codpses AHAHAHAHAHA so this what a super saiyan feels like huh
Zachary Anderson
The pink floyd and 'actual monsters' part
Thomas Moore
post lalas
Isaiah Campbell
why are people always bringing up wow in these threads and why is it always classic? is live really that bad that nobody actually wants to talk about it?
Carter Barnes
>is live really that bad that nobody actually wants to talk about it? yeah.
Joseph Garcia
>The pink floyd The fights look like a lazer show with lights everywhere, like a rave. It's tacky and ugly. >and 'actual monsters' part The bosses in classic just feel like normal mobs modeled larger, tuned highly and with some additional mechanics. It's basic, but they feel like a natural part of the world, and what you would expect a monster in a dungeon to feel like.
In FFXIV, boss mechanics are arbitrary and esoteric, and every encounter. It's more like an arcade raiding experience than the organic experience of completing a dungeon in an RPG.
Jace Lopez
>and every encounter. *and every encounter is this elaborate ballet dance of nonsense
Leo Barnes
how do you stop getting burnt out in raid night? by the third hour i feel dead
Adrian Brooks
i'm sorry that you lack the brain capacity to remember mechanics.
Liam Hill
Do you do any exercises during the day? I used to feel like shit if I had to focus for more than 3 hours but after starting cardio in the morning I feel much better.
Jaxson Reyes
bro this is the only game i play i'm a fucking beast during the day. well if it wasn't for this corona fucking shit i'd be hitting a 4pl8 squat right now.
Lincoln Phillips
I didn't say anything in my post about being unable to remember the mechanics. Reading comprehension, little guy.
Lucas Gonzalez
join a guild that speedruns them.
Daniel Nelson
This.
How could they make it so simplistic after how complicated XI was? I don't get it.
Michael Jones
Any other good hags besides Mommy Miounne and Y’Shtola?
Runar is clearly the cuck, don't know why people think differently. He's far too try hard and knows he's getting perma benched when everyone goes back to the Source.
Jace Flores
But when is 6.0?
Lucas King
any time a new piece of content comes out, the forums light up with people displaying how retarded they are, like people legitimately unable to finish MSQ solo duties where you play as y'shtola, estinien, etc
Daniel Kelly
So what? Because 90% of the players have sub room temperature IQ, they should dumb down the game? If they keep the game hard the players need to adapt and create strategies to get better, shouldn't they strive for this?
Gabriel Robinson
well as far as quality of the game goes, no they shouldn't constantly dumb down the game. but SE is a business and will do what they can to retain as many whales as possible, so MSQ will forever be relegated to ultra-casual and some of the effects of that might leak into other content that braindead whales demand that they be able to clear
Ayden Brooks
Is it worth levelling my Trust? Im getting real tired of the Switch.
