There is a more dynamic series of choices per encounter being made is an FPS game than almost any turn based JRPG with no job system.

Seen some of the footage released from the people who got it early the general node to node design of 16 was definitely dropped overall, while there are still arenas from time to time there is a lot more going on between arenas making them feel less like hotspots. First level alone has mid-tier enemies appearing periodically between arena areas as well as the tentacles and other environmental hazards to vary things up. Stuff like Cacodemons and Arachnotrons make appearances usually only one at a time but never the less present. Wouldn't be surprised if late-game levels throw hordes of Pinkies at the player.

My only problem with the arenas in 16 is they were too short aside the ones at the very end, and all of them had way too low enemy density for how strong your tools were

I feel you man, there's something to be said for good gore, especially in games. It really increases the enjoyment, but nowadays seeing a bloodless bullet wound causes some faggots to shit their pants.

Yeah it felt weird that they never through more Hell Knights, Barons and Mancubi at the player, those three enemies I felt really dictated the flow of a fight more than other enemies and basically ended up as the heavy hitters but iirc you never encounter more than two Barons at once and Mancubi in large groups are often separated by large distances. Hopefully we'll see more Barons in a single encounter wave this time around. I'm p. sure one of the Trailers also implied Barons can appear outside of arenas which is good.

The trick is to commit horrible, unspeakable acts in order to fill your life with malevolent excitement and joy.
