This is the thing that keeps the Switch from being great.

The Switch is obviously what they wanted the Wii U to be but they couldn't hit the price point at the time.

They're never going to come out and say that but you have to know they agree that the Wii U was a result of half-assing what they really wanted to do.

Anyone still whining about companies leaning on upgraded ports/remasters should really just find a new industry and quit whining. It takes 2 years to make a small game, 3-4 to make a medium size game and 5-6 to make a big game. Nintendo will put out 3 or 4 new first party games a year, with 2 or 3 third party exclusives (often timed). They still need something to fill the other 6 months which is where remasters and upgraded ports fit in. There's literally nothing they can do about that because if the games aren't done they aren't done, unless you want to rush out shitty games to the market before they're done. They still put out way more games than anyone else. Sony releases 1 major first party game a year, Microsoft one every 2-3 years.

I'm beginning to suspect Nintendo made the WiiU a failure on purpose. Like, they said they released a new console, but really, it was all just a beta test. All the WiiU ports and some WiiU games being half-finished on release like Mario Tennis U and then being 'properly' done on the Switch is kinda sketchy.

mario tennis wii u was in development late in the wii u's short lifespan, its development was gutted and cut corners just so they could make some money back out of it when the wii u was already a commercial failure. This happened to many wii u games.

No, the Switch is just the logical evolution of the Wii U, but Nintendo really wanted to make a console with a tablet because they wanted to make some sort of entertainment center to play with the entire family. The early promotion videos and the fist year of the console is proof that they were taking the thing seriously. The problem is that nobody else wanted that.
