Why does The Majin Buu Arc get so much hate?

Why does The Majin Buu Arc get so much hate?

Because it's a jumbled mess of ideas that squanders it's own potential at every turn to draw shit out for Goku to win out of obligation at the end with an asspull.
>but he does that every arc
At least the Z-fighters get a chance to shine in the other arcs, and the progression made sense even if it was predictable. Buu is all over the place.

Attached: image0.jpg (730x720, 88.97K)

doesnt the entire saga take place in one whole afternoon?

It's like 2 days or something, but I'm being pretty generous with that.

it's overloaded with so much soul that normies can't handle it

That's another thing, the progression of time feels absolutely fucked. I'm pretty sure Gohan has to sit with Supreme Kai for like 21 hours, and he's probably knocked out for a few hours before that. That's the only real frame of reference for time I remember.

Attached: Buu_is_the_best.jpg (874x618, 262.78K)

No it doesn't.

Attached: 63e.jpg (1920x1080, 76.12K)

I like it but the introduction of super saiyan 3 was awful.

buu saga was deliberate self sabotage to see how much toriyama can get away with.

Everything with Majin vegeta in it was peak dragon ball kino and nothing will ever top his fight with goku.

I think they stated that Buu spent like a day wiping out humans after he killed Babidi.

I just hate majin buus voice I can’t stand it

The start of the tournament to Goten and Trunks training, and Gohans powerup, is one day. Gotenks to Buus death is another day. Days in Buu arc are like an episode of 24

>At least the Z-fighters get a chance to shine in the other arcs
Pleb take.

Wanting side characters to "get a chance to shine" isn't asking for a story, it's asking for fanservice.

mostly it's cellcucks deflecting from their mess of a saga.

It looks nice, but when you realize that Goku's not even invested in it, I lose interest.

How do i get a neck like that

Attached: Jimmynumale.jpg (640x629, 139.58K)

>Gohan hyped up to kill Buu
>Buu absorbs Gotenks and just spanks Gohans ass because he repeats his mistake with Cell and wastes time
And that's the problem with Buu arc

It's just blah blah blah powerups followed by powerups

I bet you don't get why people like Star Trek you fag.

the highs dont justify the lows. And the lows arnt even that low they just really drag their feet. The whole thing feels really slow and drawn out even when the action is going on.

Attached: 1420242868327.jpg (600x450, 56.84K)

Because its half of Dragonball Z
Its as long as the other arcs combined

>wanting Gohan to win with an asspull powerup
yikes

>Gohan made out to be godlike in power
>just dies 2 minutes later

The introduction of SS3 was to demonstrate why Goku could have ended it right there if he really wanted to, but would rather entrust everything to the next generation of heroes. How the fuck do you guys still not get this?

>but would rather entrust everything to the next generation of heroes
And yet he comes right back afterwards to save the day

>Jobhan

Because it was a dumb idea to leave the fate of the world in the hands of 2 children who never grasped the severity of the situation even after watching Buu kill some of their family members.

gohan and goku fucked up so many times when it was finally time to kill the villain in each arc, hell even vegeta does it, why are sayians so fucking dumb

Yet he still ends up having to save the day anyway. That shit is just straight up negligent and stupid, countless lives are at stake and you gamble on 2 10 year olds and your bitch ass son who forgot how to fight

And it's thrown away when Goku's left to bomb Kid Buu.

>grow up with the ocean dub because I live in the UK, like fat buu's voice
>pick up Budokai 2 and hear funimation fat buu for the first time
fuck man

Attached: oh shit what are you doing.png (251x230, 54.67K)

I don't get why people like a lot of things, but Star Trek wasn't about just giving the sidekicks "chances to shine". It made sure those characters in the spotlight actually made significant contributions to whatever the episode's plot was.

Putting fan favorites in the limelight for the sake of it results in garbage like Wan Piss or Super.

A. The anime got stretched to hell.
B. It's rough in the middle.
C. Most DBZ fags like Frieza and Cell, not DB.

The start and end of the manga Buu arc was the best shit since Piccolo Jr volume.

Yes, hence the "would rather" part. He wants the others to do it, but they can't, so he has to.

they didn't become convenient retards until the cell saga. they actually strategized during the saiyan and frieza sagas.

>Supreme Kai introduced as smug and helps Babidi resurrect Buu to defeat them
>doesn't finish the job
>Goku fights Majin Buu in Super Saiyan 3
>doesn't finish the job
>Gotenks doesn't finish the job
>Gohan comes back
>doesn't finish the job
>Goku and Vegeta come back and fuse
>don't finish the job
>Goku fights Kid Buu in Super Saiyan 3
>doesn't finish the job
>has to rely on Spirit Bomb and 3 wishes to defeat Buu after fucking around for so long

Retard lmao

>Because it's a jumbled mess of ideas that squanders it's own potential at every turn to draw shit out for Gohan to win out of obligation at the end with an asspull.
We're talking Buu, not Cell.

Kid Buu = Shit Buu
Should've just stuck with Super Buu

A) it was poorly implemented
B) they JUST did that with the end of the Cell saga
C) he saves the day anyway

are you an idiot?

Its Boo you falconer loving dubfags

The arc is a convoluted mess.

I love the side characters but you nailed it.
Star Trek is great, but Toriyama sucks at writing ensemble casts. He's a blunt satirist and action scenes man. Buu has the best writing of the Z era.

That isn't the point. Buu arc is FILLED with moments like that. It hypes up Gohan only for NOTHING to come of it, it did the same thing with Gotenks for fucks sake.

It was good except for Goten and Trunks. I wasn't a big fan of the fusions either.

Worst take.
Fat Buu > Kid Buu > Default Super Buu > Garbage > Every fused Super Buu

>gohan gets the toriyama handjob
>calls buu a retard
>gets his ass beaten

t. Tacos de Goku

>wanting characters to contribute to the story is fanservice
Are you for real? You'd seriously just prefer Goku to fight and win for the whole show? Characters are what a show is defined by, they need to at least play a role in the plot. In the Buu saga, Gohan is built up for 50+ episodes as the one who's going to defeat Buu, only to show up and job to a hidden slime. Compare that to the Z-fighters holding out against Vegeta/Nappa in the Saiyan arc, or Piccolo's fight against 17.

Attached: 1377449574867.png (900x680, 350.94K)

>they actually strategized during the saiyan and frieza sagas.

Yep, like Vegeta killing the Ginyu force while they were down so they can't come back later. He wasn't taking any chances back then.

Enter CHADhan

Can you dumb faggots even read? The spirit bomb wasn't just Goku, it was the entirety of Earth and its inhabitants. That was the point. Goku entrusts things to the next generation, and by the end of the arc entrusts things to the entire planet. Even Vegeta says as much.

Do you guys even understand themes?

It is a dumb idea on paper, but that's Goku. He was thinking ahead at the time since he wasn't expecting to be resurrected again, and wanted the kids to be prepared in case bad guys keep showing up.

Imagine not growing up with dubbed DBZ in the morning before school. I pity your shit childhood.

Don’t you fags have your own threads at Yas Forums??

Was Majin Buu conventionally powerful in the same way as Frieza, Cell, the Saiyans etc or was he a threat mostly because of his gimmicks?

Never quite got that.

dragonball kakarot is in the OP so its videogames

getting the toriyama handjob twice and still sucks

Even despite the editorial pulls in different directions in the Cell saga, it's still a more coherant story that escalates and finally brings Gohan at least some semblance of a character arc.

Attached: fb8865a176e4c8568575a522497c4a74004a9f46_hq.gif (267x200, 3.14M)

Everybody on Yas Forums dragon ball threads has a roleplaying personality to shitpost as and nobody wants to have discussion there.

>but Toriyama sucks at writing ensemble casts.

Everyone is just there to be humiliated so Goku looks better. Hajime no Ippo is one of the best examples of a cast where almost everyone has great moments and win big fights. The main character isn't even the one with the perfect record.

Body regeneration ruined dbz villains

Prove me wrong

Attached: 87364E56-C591-44B1-9E30-B139BC99A565.gif (510x287, 2.75M)

Everything after the World Tournament goes to shit.
>Vegeta is going to finish off Buu!
>lol nope it's Goku
>wait it's Gotenks
>nevermind Gohan is the one to do it all along
>heck yeah I think we got this with Vegito
>ok lets just let Goku then
The arc has garbage writing because it doesn't know what it wants to do in the end. Even with every saiyan gets some spotlight it's eventually pointless because everyone except Goku is a jobber.
Buu is a pretty trash villian too personality-wise
The only really saving grace is how it was overall beautifully animated

boo is retarded but he has lots of underhanded tactics compared to freeza and cell, and his body's regeneration is much better than cells

Say what you will about the Buu Saga, Vegito looks fucking cool as all shit.

No one looks back at that and thinks "the next generation beat buu!", the credit for beating buu is mostly given to Goku.

Ruined Golan, came with Gotet

Fat Buu is dumb and his gimmick of being a dumb childish fatty gets old fast. When people talk about the arc, they usually never talk about Buu (aside from how they hate him), and talk about SS3, fusions, Hercule, ultimate Gohan, Vegeta’s sacrifice, or Goku vs Vegeta.

>cell kills 16
>gohan suddenly empathize with him
it doesn't work man, if gohan spent more time with 16 in the time chamber to create a connection then his death would be meaningful and gohan would actually be enraged because in the end 16, gohan and cell are just the sons who fight for their fathers

Buu was implied to be significantly stronger than Frieza.

The supreme kai explains that kid buu basically devoured several of the supreme kai's (which is what made him fat buu in the first place). And the supreme kai also says that he himself could have defeated frieza. Which is why he doesn't initially have a high opinion of the saiyans, he thinks they'll be helpful, but he doesn't expect them to be able to fight buu at all.

Beyond that his regeneration is his most powerful trait. He takes what ought to have been completely lethal damage over and over and over again and just comes right back.

So power wise he's way over Frieza and Cell, but his regeneration is what keeps him being a threat for so long.

>Early DB
>Shit just happens, stories rarely take more than a few chapters.
>Piccolo Saga
More dramatic and drawn out, but well paced and really simple. At this point the comic is spamming tournaments because of editorial but it's fine.
>Sayain Saga
Interesting but clearly flying by seat of pants, Raditz only works as setup and not a character, Goku's training isn't as good as the Roshi/Korrin/Kami iterations. Awesome fights, bad character usage outside of that.
>Namek
Shit's getting super drawn out and, while core ideas are strong, execution falters often. Again, mostly just good fights. Strongest at the end. Ideas are building for later.
>Androids/Cell
>Complete and utter fucking mess, is several different stories poorly strung together, each harmed by the next story cutting it off early. Praised mostly because it has payoff for ideas built up from Sayain and Namek sagas. Literally has Toriyama taking the piss on his fans for demanding the exact same story.
>Buu
>Strong start veering more towards Toriyama's strengths, quickly turns slow and plodding because of outside interference. Basically becomes a playground for Toriyama to parody himself and try ideas in the middle. Suddenly kicks back into gear at the story halfway point/chapter 4/5 point, likely because the book finally got cancelled, ending chapters were the best DB had been in years.

I'm convinced the people who hate Buu either didn't read the manga or are powerlevel fags. It isn't perfect, but it wasn't bad.

The only real thing that the Buu's have is that their bodies are super resilient to damage, so they can dump all their power into attacking without having to be cautious.
Either way they all still had assloads of power. It doesn't make much of a difference overall to the story.

Based Plague of Gripes watcher.

I give them credit for foreshadowing Gohan's hidden power since Raditz showed up, the trigger was dumb though. It should have been Goku who was killed since he was gonna die anyway.

I hate the regeneration bullshit because cell, buu and zamasu should have died multiple times if it wasnt for it

Attached: C7B84030-8549-4DEF-BBD2-06CC85017440.jpg (640x480, 41.76K)

>Praised mostly because it has payoff for ideas built up from Sayain and Namek sagas

Explain

Zenkai and power levels never should have been a thing. It should have all been transformation based, with Goku being the same power level in namek, cell, and buu. In addition, SSJ2 or any subsequent forms never should have been a thing, and it should have just been Gohan with SSJ1 and retard strength stomping Cell

Gotenks and Majin Vegeta are the best bits

Because it's just a copy of the cell saga but worse.
>evil creature can absorb people and steal their powers and also regenerate
>characters constantly hyped up to beat Buu get disregarded
>goku once again saves the day, vegeta's sacrifice pointless, gotenks and gohan pointless
>buu's last form was dogshit and uninteresting

becasue everyone hates that motherfucker
nobody wants to see a giant baby fight a man

>Are you for real? You'd seriously just prefer Goku to fight and win for the whole show?
I'd prefer Goku to fight and win for the arcs where Goku fighting and winning is narratively and thematically fitting.

The Boo arc was a story about Goku coming back, forcing Vegeta to come to grips with his rival's superiority, passing everything on to the next generation, and finally passing everything on to earth itself. These things were all done THROUGH Goku, so it makes sense that Goku's presence would take priority.

The Boo arc is a fucking masterpiece, both in story and in its more comedic tone.

Doesn't Ippo end up with brain damage or some shit that keeps him out of the ring in later chapters?

Cell>Zamasu>Buu

>spewing plague of cringe opinions as being correct
is this gonna be the next twin perfect but for dragon ball?

Attached: 1500961099905.jpg (1056x1080, 501.44K)

Nah, man. It only works because it pulls stuff built up beforehand. Like you said, Gohan was a lynchpin and that's due to the buildup from the very first time we saw him. Buu is a better self-contained story and a better thematic ending as well, it just got stretched too thin.
Kinda, but it's less about Goku and more that Toriyama is straightforward. The focal characters matter at that exact moment and nothing else. Goku only matters so much because readers wouldn't let him stay dead.
Not that user, but it works because Gohan cares more about ideas than relationships. It's not that he cares about 16, it's that he saw a life end from his inaction and that dying man said "bro I get it, but you gotta, it's cool."

>Zenkai and power levels never should have been a thing. It should have all been transformation based, with Goku being the same power level in namek, cell, and buu.
Training leading to extremely stupid power ups existed way before numerical power levels though. Just look at Goku tanking Tao Pai Pai's attacks after training with Korin.

Gohan freaked out at 16s death because it was the first completely irreversible effect of his refusal to fight. Everyone was getting their asses beat but they could still heal up and Gohan still held out hope that Cell could be talked down. 16 was the point of no return and Cell still laughed in his face about it. Anyone could have died there and it would have spurred Gohan to lose his shit. This isnt a very hard concept to grasp, I dont know why it confuses brainlets all these years later

its 3 days for buu arc

Who’s the giant baby and who’s the man

>with an asspull powerup
Shut the fuck up thats literally all of DBZ

>the credit for beating buu is mostly given to Goku
The credit for beating Buu is mostly given to the earth. Did you read the dialogue?

Why the fuck toriyama hates Gohan so much??

>starts as some kind of SOL shit with Gohan acting out of character
>proceeds to cheapen the journey of our heroes by making Goten and Trunks be some kind of martial arts savants (despite future Trunks having gone the traditional staircase of reaching super saiyan through anger/despair, buu saga Trunks just gets it for plot reasons)
>more SOL shit until tournament - which classically gets interrupted
>Hype up an ultimate supreme Kai, only for him to be a jobber
>Hype up a PROPER demon lord, only for him to be a jobber
>Hype up the strongest magician, only for him to be a jobber
>make every non-saiyan fighter obsolete and piss all over them
>Hype up SSJ3 but don't even give it a proper scene, just casual SSJ showcase and screaming - until LOL GOTENKS who once again cheapens the journey of our heroes by achieving the most power in the shortest amount of time we've seen yet
>Gotenks proceeds to make a fucking joke out of Super Buu, and doesn't even take the fight seriously
>spend ten million years re-unlocking Gohan's potential for the umpteenth time
>hype up mystic Gohan, only for him to be a jobber
>hype up Vegito, only for him to not even get to finish the job
>A primal, but weakened form of Buu is the final fight
>Vegeta jobs, as usual
>Goku in the spotlight, as usual
>keep shoving gay ass Satan in the arc for no good reason, and even in the final battle, he ultimately is the key
>ends with a boring spirit bomb that was charged for a decade

The only redeeming parts were the creativity of Buu and the fight of Majin Vegeta, who regardless, still gets insulted by Goku by him not even fighting seriously

Attached: 1425639303640.gif (400x300, 715.38K)

>Vegeta finally putting his pride aside
>Piccolo dad
>Gohan payoff
>Goku makes the ultimate sacrifice
Etc.
As a story on its own, Cell is dull. Trunks best up Freezy. Then they beat up Gero. Then they fight Androids a little. Then Xenomorph. Then Frieza 2 with Saibamen at BT. It isn't making its own ideas and resolving them like Namek or Buu or even the Sayain Saga. It's strong due to denouments from other arcs.

>just fight lmao
doesn't work, gohan enrages when people he interacts with get hurt. this is why gohan headbutt raditz and was able to fight freezer. gohan never talked to 16, all he knew was androids are going to destroy the world. maybe gohan should've tried to interact with the androids after seeing krillin doing this with 18. maybe trunks should've speak to gohan about the situation instead of goku just so they can give him some main role

>literally all of DBZ
And most them fucking jobbed lol.
