After playing Doom 2016 several times, I really only have 4 real complaints:
1. Platforming can be finicky. It works most of the time but often you'll look like you jumped perfectly only for you to not grab the ledge.
2. Some levels for seemingly no reason other than aesthetic prevent backtracking which makes replays and secret hunting kind of annoying when trying to 100% the game.
3. Some weapon mods just straight up aren't useful until fully upgraded especially at higher difficulties. This leads to you kind of carrying around some mods you don't use often until you have enough to upgrade them.
4. The middle of the game does drag a bit. I think the constant small arena rooms as well as lack of new enemies/locations kills the pacing at that point. It didn't make me hate the game but when what came before and after felt so good, it kinda just felt like padding or they just didn't know where to go.

If eternal addresses these 4 issues, then it's gonna be amazing. If not, I'm sure it'll still be good even if slightly disappointing considering they've had so long to learn from mistakes.

They need to make platforming more forgiving or give us more feedback and info when platforming. Especially if they're doubling down on it with eternal. Really hope they've improved it. As for levels blocking access, some of it was seemingly for no reason. Like doors that would just autolock. Really hope they dont do that in eternal. Maybe it's some kind of loading issue? Either way hope it's resolved.

I feel you on that because I really don't like 1st person platforming and my shooter game and I'm kind of annoyed that they added emphasis to it in this new game. It better be more fun because otherwise I'm going to be bothered every time I'm not shooting a demon.

I know you didn't mention it but I feel like there's a lot of ammo lying around in the game. I typically play on ultra violence And I don't really feel any kind of ammo stress.

People have said it before but if you really want something closer to OG doom, you gotta play on nightmare. Enemies will kill you much faster and ammo becomes more scarce. Thats why I didn't mention ammo being too plentiful. I mean even then, you have specific rune combinations and the chainsaw to get you ammo regardless but you can avoid using those for a challenge.

god it hurts to see something like fps being played with controllers. I mean, it would be a shitload easier just to take a mouse and keyboard and do the review on pc, the movements feels really off and they probably have some auto aim turned on.

Yeah I dont really care in the end but theyre useful for keeping hype in check because like it or not, hype really affects how people view games. Lots of people didn't like 2016 because it had been overhyped by somebody they knew despite the game being good.
