The only time I do not play as a female character is if there is a relationship system without lesbian options. I just like being around women, even if they’re fictional. I think women look better 100% of the time, especially with bikini armor. I will only play as a male if I’m forced to basically.

If it's a western game then I choose the male character, if it's a japanese game I choose the female. It's easy.

I just play who I think looks cooler, be it due to their animations or armor design and that usually ends up being the male option. Monster Hunter is a good example, armor looks amazing on males and mostly garbage on females.

I had four Shepards that I played through the games with.

Benjamin Shepard, my nuetral self insert who just picked the dialogue options that felt right/what I would personally do, my normie character. Replayed the ending to get every one including the bonus clip of Shepard inhaling, but originally picked synthetic.
Alec Shepard, my lawful good asshole who did everything by the book with a hard moralfag lean, just to see the unique dialogue options I'd never see in cases where I'd always go renegade. Killed dem rippers.
Ashley Shepard, my femshep who was full renegade and always had a squad of girls (except Ashley because she's a xenophobic tranny and had the same name, and there can't be two Ashes on this Normandy. Surprisingly tho, this is the only Shepard who DIDN'T Vermire Ashley just to keep the girl squad asthetic up). If two girls weren't available, Garrus would become the honourary Charlie to our Angels. Control ending.
Then I had a fourth Shepard named Dick, made him look like Danny Trejo. This was a social pkaythrough with a group of friends during hang outs and we made group decisions on what Dick Shepard would do. He basically became an asshole who would paranoyingly assault every straight man and perceived lesbian woman in the assumption they were all trying to fuck Dick's off camera daughter. By ME3 the group unanimously decided IGN's chipmunk Jessica Chobot was Dick's daughter and recruited her to the Normandy. We weren't battle ready since we focused on protecting our daughter's virginity and didn't beat the game but had a blast playing it.

Not insulting you, I just can’t be Chris Redfield even as a thought experiment. So his well being never enters into my mind. Same thing for Jill, I’m not her and I can’t think that I am her so to me the literal only difference between both characters is one is pretty and one isn’t pretty. It's surprisingly easy. You can have an easier time roleplaying as dumber characters if you learn to meditate and clear your mind. Part of their simplicity comes from not overthinking things, which can be hard to do if you're always analyzing everything in your head. Learn to calm your mind, and then learn to appreciate and enjoy simplier thoughts for what they are without thinking about them. Just let them be.

You'll find writing and roleplaying as simple minded characters so much easier and satisfying.

Really? I first started with Female Byleth but I feel like her model is weird and her clothes are out of place. The only thing she has over Male Byelth is boobs. Even then I still can't look at her face in cutscenes so I just started new game with male.

I really don't like male Byleth's hair and his clothes look super stupid to me. The DLC clothes don't really help much either. The only acceptable DLC outfit is the gym clothes, but those suck too so I keep him default. His facial expressions and art are fine, it's just his design in general I don't like compared to the female version.
