play uninstall wizard

go with fighter ----> magick knight ---> assassin and then magick archer

Don't roll mage.

wolves hunt alone and most roads lead nowhere

Wolves hunt alone
Goblins are resistant to ice and fire both
No roads lead to Gran Soren

Strart with strider, learn dodge roll, get moonbeam gem to get all the cool items in the dark arisen dlc area and go from there.

You were fooled by Yas Forums the game is shit and I will explain why:

>No indication of where roads lead
>No hint to what enemies are weak to
>No hint of when enemies are alone or in groups
>No warning to avoid status effects
>No clue to which items are masterworks

I don't know how people defend this game.

Wolves ill like fire.

>>No indication of where roads lead
Filtered

I thought Strider specs into Assassin? Sorry I don't really understand the vocation system

Is this recommended? I was reading about going to BBI early to get a ring to increase affinity or something but would that ruin the fun of a first playthrough and the experience

You may feel like the game is shit until you are given a task to slay a griphon, I encourage you to have patience and slay it before you make a decision about the game.

Other than that... Wolves hunt in packs.

Anything can spec into anything.

If you wanna be a mage, go sorc. If you don't level as fighter

>Magical archer
Fucking WHY?

There is nothing wrong with starting as mage.
>Is this recommended?
No, there is no reason to powergame this hard for a first playthrough.

You can freely switch between vocations (classes) when you reached the big city. You level up your stats depending on what class you play. Magical classes -> more magic attack and defense, physical classes -> more physical attack and defense. The bow-classes have great stamina growth. Don't worry about stats too much, just play whatever you like. More important are the passive skills you pick up when levelling your class. You can equip them with any vocation.
Your pawn learns from you and what you are doing. Playing as the same class for some time is a good idea. Avoid guardian inclinations on your pawn and other pawns. It's just bad. Avoid using commands unless you know exactly what they do.
Really do the witchwood quest before you go down the pawn guild in the city. Certain main quests will lock-out side-quests. You should, if possible, do side-quests before the main quest. Aside from notice board quests, like kill x thing. Just pick them and forget about them. Escort quests can be difficult at the beginning, because they may want to be escorted to far away places. Don't do them if you are unsure if you can make it. Most of them aren't worth it anyway.
Wolves hunt in packs.
It's a fantastic game, but starts slowly. Give it some time.

This is the only advice anyone needs for DD. Magic is for pawns only.
I really hope they spice up those vocations for the player in DD2.

There will be a quest fairly early on called "Lost & Found" that has you go look for a person from your village. The way to that person has some higher level bandits which might be too hard for you to go as soon as you can.

You can get some levels before doing that quest BUT IT HAS TO BE DONE BEFORE YOU DO THE MAIN QUEST "LURE OF THE ABYSS".

You can enter the city pick sidequests buy/sell but if you do the aforementioned quest you will lose the chance to do the "Lost & Found" quest.

Lot of people miss the quest on their first playthrough cause the bandits on its way seem high level so it seems it s quest better done later , you can always sprint from them if needed or just kill them once you are high lvl enough.

so
MA>ranger>MK>>strider>assassin>sorc>fighter>mage>warrior

The game also has large trees, but they're not nearly as large up close. Can't believe they never patched that

>There is nothing wrong with starting as mage.
It's painfully slow and gets the worst level ups.

Minmaxing my MK at the moment.
Aka went to BBI first thing.

>Is this recommended?
Do you have any class preferences?
People could give you better recommendations for how to play something more specific rather than throwing general meta builds and other speedrun shit at you.

>Lot of people miss the quest on their first playthrough
>tfw I managed to murder everyone but one single bandit that I couldn't scratch no matter what I tried
>tfw I could've just gone past him and been fine, but I read too much into it and assumed there'd just be more unkillable enemies past that point
Fuck that bandit.

This is the gayest way to play, but I'm sure you know this already. At the very least if you're going to BBI first, don't have pawns carry you. Get destroyed, realize your folly, and then play the game normally.

Dragons Dogma 2 will never happen.

Think I'm gonna go Assassin though Magick Archer does seem really cool too

Thanks for the informative post user, I understand a lot more about the vocation and augment system now and going to jump into my first journey in a few minutes, hope the game sticks with me!

On the note of difficulty, is hard mode fine for the first playthrough and fairly balanced? Or am I meant to go normal then NG+ into hard mode?

C'mon user, Capcom wouldn't create a great IP just to left it root.

NG+ is literally the game reset without any challenge added. My recommendation:
>slay dragon
>things happen, go where things happen
>don't finish the game yet
>go to the Bitterblack Isle
>beat it once, then beat it twice
>finish the game
If by then you are not burned out then set some challenges for yourself or go to hard mode if the game seems piss easy.

dont play mage, ever
dont level warrior post 100, hp gains are bugged
if you want somebody to shower you with RP just make a thread and ask, you wont get random hires anymore
dont minmax, thats retarded
hard mode only makes you take more damage, could be a problem if fashion is important to you and you are not good enough to just not get hit
it also makes stamina the most important stat in the game
you can turn off pawn chatter in options
place mage at the bottom or just dont mention it

To think I have to share a thread with all those homos shitting on magic.

alright lads give me a Guts build from Berserk

There were so many quests I never did in DD. Most of the escort ones, a lot of the collection ones too.

nobody is shitting on magic, only on the mage vocation
theres is 0 reason to play it when sorcerer exists

Pawns learn from your own behaviors, therefore choose your main pawn's class based on what you're going to main, otherwise it will be pretty stupid and useless (do not choose a different class for your main pawn to try 'balance out' your party like I did, just means your pawn will never learn to git gud).

If someone likes playing a healer/support in MMOs, then they might enjoy Mage but they are supporting AI.

Don't bother being a metaslave to stat growth (it hardly matters in the end anyways), just play whatever you want

You can kick (not attack) the cart to make it get to Gran Soren faster. If you play as a mage as well you can heal the oxen back up so you can kick them faster for the whole trip.

This but not really the reason why I didn't like it that much
I got pretty far in but takes way too fucking long to get good
Hook me in in the first 10 hours or just fuck off
I have too many games to be wasting my time on games that decide to get good halfway through

Yeah, install this mod:
youtu.be/7D2OgzOYX_Y

You can't play as sorc at the start though, no? Makes perfect sense then to play mage for those first ten levels if you're going for max MATK. But yeah, sorc vs mage is a no-brainer.

It's a shit game, refund while you can.

You can run off to trigger Dark Arisen, head to BBI and respec there.

Nigger, I solo'd BBI starting off level 1. It's not even hard.
Don't talk to me until you learn how to play the game.

Last time I tried it, it didn't work. You need to be level 10 to switch to advanced vocations. Sorcerer doesn't even has stats for level 2 to 10.

>Assassin though Magick Archer
Magick Archer is heavily reliant on magic attack for damage, and Assassin is incredibly physical attack biased.
That's not to say it won't work, the game isn't so hard that you need to bother min/maxing, but if it feels like you aren't doing as much damage as you should as mArcher then that's why.

Don't play hard mode , it's unbalanced and not actually hard after the first couple hours.

>is hard mode fine for the first playthrough and fairly balanced?
lol
someone post the comic

Dont be scared to switch vocations and try new things, also try to complete every quest so you dont miss any character on ur first playthroug

>My little sorcerer pawn just got back from helping someone kill the dragon
I feel warm and fuzzy

I remember that user that only played the BBI thinking that was actuslly the whole game. Imagine the suffering of going through that shithole with fucking rook

I got you, bro.

DD is a funny game, there’s so much depth to its combat and world—yet the map is far smaller than you’d assume. So much content was cut from the game early in development, but fortunately BBI does some serious legwork to help boost the game’s length. It’s kind of like a Bloodborne DLC situation (both dlcs are 10/10 in my opinion)
The game had a lot of fun online functions and a few surprises you might not expect, so play online if you can
Also play through the game twice and beat NG+ for the full experience
Have fun

Tips:
>Save often
>Check your item storage at start, it has some really nice items / armor
>Dont be afraid to buy / use consumables. Carry a good amount for each quest
>Run from enemies sometimes, at the beginning of the game anyway
>Never use a pawn with the Guardian or Nexus inclination. Rest are passable at worst
>Dont forget to enhance your weapons / armor occasionally
>Always carry one skeleton key on you at all times
You should be able to figure out the rest. Don’t spoil yourself on the story if you havent already, its pretty bland at times but there are some fun reveals and the ending is great

Picking the same vocation as your pawn hardly matters since inclinations and bestiary are the only things that matter, your pawn don't mimick your actions it simply changes behavior based on inclination flags, I hate people spreading this myth of the EXTRAORDINARY DEEP LEARNING AI.

No, you are the one repeating a myth while getting proven wrong by simple player experience. Everyone that plays this game long enough notices his pawn picking up the players behavior. Things like your warrior pawn repeatedly using jumping light attack is not something based on inclinations or bestiary knowledge.

soon no one will understand this

I got bored of it, I did it up to that one mission with the cult in the big city but somehow the game has a really weird scope to it so I can't get "into" it
maybe it's because all I do is cast big ass meteor shower and eat food

Can you provide proof then? show us how often an "untrained" Pawn will do a jumping light attack compared to a "trained" one also perhaps tell us why such amazing feature wasn't hyped up by capcom?
