Let’s have another RaC thread. What you guys think of Tools of destruction? 12 years old me was dissapointed because you got a OP weapon mid game and you could spent all the time using that, but I don’t remember that much besides.
Also I couldn’t play A crack in Time until years later because there was some bug that deleted my data, so I bought another disc and played it after finishing the OG trilogy

It alright
I’m going to continue 2. Maybe later I will try to get the Rhyno in 1
Why he was angry in this scene?
It has same issue with weapon balance like Going Commando had.
For me it's the best game in the series with the most fun weapons and levels. Also Mr. Zurkon and Groovytron.
Even the first Ratchet and Clank have bad weapons balance? Who cares? Just pick your fav gun and pew pew
I love the prehistoric level
The razor claws are underrated.
It breaks the game because you can scale walls infinitely.
Pretty boring. Level design was bland as hell. Difficulty was the only thing that made it engaging. Runs smoothly, which is nice. Plot and characters suck.
You can't use your favorite gun when does garbage damage later in the game. Fortunately the weapons are more balanced in challenge mode and you can use most of them through the whole game.
Graphics blew me away back in the day but even then I felt like the music and story were lacking. Age has only increased this, I never replay past Deadlocked, though I occasionally get half an idea to dig out the PS3 and try out Crack in Time again.
Still got the best villain army.
Borrowed Going Commando from a friend and playing through it for the first time, what are some must have weapons?
Lava gun
Bouncer
Plasma coil
Plasma Coil and the Bouncer
Kinda sad Ratchet is dead in the water but at least he had a good run. Way longer than most of his peers got
Every weapom, but i must say that you should avoid buying the weapons from RaC 1 besides maybe the doll that looks like ratchet and but the mini rocket launcher and blitz canon
>be me
>R&C Going Commando is my favorite game of all-time
>PS3 comes out with Tools, but I'm just a kid so I can't get it
>hear about Crack in Time supposedly being the best Ratchet game ever made, still can't play it
>10 years later
>buy a PS3 to play Demon's Souls, and try Tools of Destruction
>it's the biggest piece of fucking shit I've played
>try Crack in Time
>another huge pile of fucking shit
Cinematic bullshit, appealing to kiddie Pixar fans, these things killed R&C
didn’t the lava gun turn into shit after leveling up? at least for my taste
It's a real shame how badly they nerfed those weapons, R&C2 would improve a lot from a fanpatch that rebalances stuff.
Why is 3 hated so much? felt it was just a natrual progression of the series, very similar to crash and spyro 3, building upon what was previously there and adding a bunch of gimmicks to keep it fresh while not messing with the core fundamentals
Even as a kid, while I did really like it, I recognized that the level design was boring, I hated all the multiplayer-like levels of tower defense and whatnot.
Also the guns just weren't as good.
it did the opposite, it had very few gimmicks. it was basically just a shooter, getting rid of the other minigames like racing and flying. there are only a handful of platforming levels and it's linear as fuck. also the multiplayer map padding sucks dick.
R&C2 was rough around the edges but it had so much stuff in it, R&C3 was just too limited in scope. Still, it just depends on whether you prefer polish or variety.
It still does good damage but you can't wave it around like a flamethrower anymore. It's a good replacement for the lancer when it becomes too weak. Just get the lock on mod for it.
I've been meaning to get into this series for over a decade now, but the only one I actually played much of was Size Matters (which I enjoyed, by the way). I'm assuming R&C, Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal are all worth playing?
I find the original R&C pretty old and antiquated - I started with Going Commando as a kid and I've never been able to play the original ever since.
Going Commando, UYA, and Deadlocked are solid fucking games.
Size Matters was one of the weakest entries.
The first three PS2 games are the same as SM but with much tighter controls, better level design and more fun weapons. Deadlocked is also worth checking out as a combat-focused spinoff.
Original trilogy is the peak. The first game probably has the best writing but the more unpolished shootin' meanwhile it's some of the best platforming. GC is great and UYA is so-so. Don't get how so many people like Deadlocked, it was straight up boring to me.
Deadlocked had cool fucking guns and challenges
I never liked it as much as R&C games but it was a lot of fun
linear levels and few minigames/gimmicks, but the gunplay is so good that I don’t care as that’s why is my fav. Imagine an UYA in which Sony didn’t asked for multiplayer mode and had less lineal levels
huh, that must explain why the lancer in my actual playghouth do shit damage. I will try the dock upgrade, thanks
You’re right the OG plays like shit compared to the others games, but my god is still a good ass platafformer and one of the most memorable RaC games
COME
AND
BUY
An e-celeb made a video about 3 being bad so you can just piece together the rest
It also had the best villain, and the best iteration of Quark
GC has the worst planets aesthetically
It's rough around the edges because of being the first game in a new engine. Bugs like the music playing for a couple seconds before the planet finishes loading, enemies freezing mid-fall because they get stuck on collision without landing and ratchet getting pushed around while dying all make the overall experience feel worse. But I played it again recently and it's still fun. Challenge Mode is pretty strongly balanced against you, even with an excessive 999 health and max armor you'll die in just a couple of hits in the final levels, and your weapons are pretty weak against everything even when they're all maxed out
ratchet and clank is my favourite game series but I can barely stay in threads for long because I can't handle people who have shit opinions
That’s not Nefarious tho, but Drex is second best villain
Weak, also Ratchet and Clank PS4 is a good game
Kek. Ratchet started getting bad immediately after Naughty Dog stopped stop being involved.
CLOCKWORK
>Naughty Dog
ToD was a soulless mix of 2 and 3. ACiT was its own soulless thing.
Overall they were good but all the charm was gone and the arsenal was objectively worse.
2016 had atrocious story but the gameplay was excellent and despite it was quite soulless because of the shitty movie and the shitty music, it had the charm of the original planets in HD. Some of the tunes were good and some were just garbage.
Can't wait for another one on PS5 but please let G&C alone, they are gonna butcher the soundtrack and some levels even if they improve the gameplay.
Yes, Naughty Dog. Ratchet 1 and Going Commando ran on ND's engine.
Nefarious go old after they pulled him into every possible game after CiT. I love the guy but I wish Insomniac hadn't resorted to making him more than a gag like in Deadlocked.
Tools of Destruction was fine. It was a solid Ratchet and Clank game with some decent weapons, some really great planets, and the difficulty was actually pretty good at times.
That said, something about it just comes off as bland and unmemorable. It's the one mainline game I really don't care to go back to and I don't know why. It was like the transition to PS3 left something behind (no I'm not saying it's soulless so don't start).
But 3 handles better than 1 and 2
Nothing invalidates an opinion faster than the dumb soul meme. Go sit in the corner and think about what you did.

You all deserve to go to the shadow realm.
It's too late.

false, they used some tech from the Jak and Daxter engine but not everything. In exchange Insomniac gave ND some tech they developed for R&C.
>Predator Launcher beat the Bouncer
>OG Rift Inducer (the better version) lost to the Omniwrench
>STILL TWO VERSION OF THE GLOVE OF DOOM
This is some bullshit. Winterizer better kick Pixelizer's ass.
The series died when it left the PS2. Prove me wrong:
>ToD comes out; Clank became a sarcastic ass and Ratchet became the butt-monkey of stupidity for some reason
>became a Pixar showcase where it's all about the graphics and the gameplay takes a backseat
>the developers apparently thought robot pirates and the Groovatron were the best fucking things ever
>no more memorable new characters except those who like to SHIP
People also like to shit on Deadlocked because muh story but the actual game is great. Playing on the hardest difficulty is actually difficult for once and will push your shit in. It's not just enemies becoming bullet sponges but they change their attack patterns to where they will make much more accurate deflection shots based on your position so you can't just lolstrafe left and right all day.
meme or not it's true. shitty generic music, shitty pixar wannabe story, shitty humor... all that shit is soulless. call it soulless, boring, cheaper, focus tested or whatever you want but it is fucking SOULLESS
Ratchet was treated as a butt monkey back in UYA though. I see your point, but still.
Also the robot pirates were pretty dope. Groovitron got old after the first game. And You're right, the characters weren't all that memorable. Talwyn and her bot buddies just didn't stick out as much as before. Tachyon was a pretty sick villain though.
The weapon design and overall artstyle change in the future games suck, everything is too fucking round and "plastic-y", i don't know how they managed to change how the entire galaxy feels for worse.
>Pixar
Here's a non-sequitur: Insomniac should shit on Disney in the next game. No doubt that the next Ratchet will look like a Pixar movie, I just hope it has the balls to act like a Don Bluth film.
Ratchet & Clank works better today than it did in 2002. The potential to shit on capes, e-celebs, an CGI cartoons, fan boys, etc. The possibilities are endless.
>ToD was a soulless mix of 2 and 3. ACiT was its own soulful thing.
ftfy
What's he looking at, bros?
>Clank became a sarcastic ass
what?
RATCHET NOOOOO
I played a few of them again recently. RaC1 was pretty good. I loved the story and some of the music was fucking amazing. Like the music that plays in the Gemlik Base is so fucking cool and HOLY FUCK the Captain Quark theme. Fantastic shit. The game is a little lost gameplay wise without a lock-strafe mode, but still loads of fun. Deadlocked (or as us Europeans call it, Gladiator.) is probably my favoruite out of the ones I've played. Great characters, such a cool setting, the Ratchet armour looks sick as fuck and the gameplay is more akin to like a 3D bullet hell shooter than a platformer. So much fun. It's a shame the disc is scratched so it always freezes on the way to the Ace Hardlight boss fight. ToD was fun, I only stopped playing because my SIXAXIS broke, these things are so unreliable. I love the controls in ToD, and it feels great to play with some legit great stage designs. The music and story are kinda sleeper desu, but it makes up for it with the great gameplay.
What one should I play next? I kinda wanna play Size Matters when I fix my PSP 3000, a UMD for it is dirt cheap too. I could also just pirate it kek.
size matters is pretty weak to be honest, I'd rather play crack in time from here
You can play SM on PSPPP. I can't imagine it plays any better or any worse than the PSP ver.
I'll be honest, Size Matters is the black sheep to me, even though it shares the same DNA as 1-3. It feels like classic RaC, but there's something off. I beat it multiple times and logged about 100hrs when the servers were still up. Play it out of pure curiosity, but don't expect a good story or great game play.
