DMC3 has a marginally better story while DMC5 does everything else better. If you like the puzzles and atmosphere, fine. But half of DMC3's bosses and enemies are THOSE bosses/enemies that are badly designed or just plain annoying to fight. And the gameplay for DMC3 is starting to show it age. Just as it was hard to go back to DMC1 after playing DMC3, it's hard to go back to DMC3 after playing DMC5 with all of the positive quality of life changes to combat.

The only thing 3 has over 5 is the overall story. Combat, enemy design, enemy variety, quality of bosses, number of bosses, visuals; 5 is objectively better than 3.

Some of them were pretty bad, but I liked that DMC3 was more willing to experiment with specialized enemy types. DMC5 undoubtedly has a stronger boss roster, though.
