How do we save the RPG genre?

How do we save the RPG genre?

Can we bring back attributes and skills yet?

Attached: nvdialogue.png (800x600, 492.15K)

attributes were dumb and always felt like waste of time or a confusing puzzle that would make me fail mid way through the game

skills are just perks now

One thing 3 got right was your skills giving you a percentage chance instead of just having a cutoff "succeed or fail" score. I guess they figured people would quicksave those but I never did.
Oh yeah, get out of the "stealth or shoot" mindset. I really tried to do Outer Worlds pacifist with just talking my way through everything but you have to shoot stuff eventually. Didn't help that the skill checks seemed to be scaling with me as I levelled up so I almost never failed anything.

Sacrifice the necessity for obnoxious graphics to instead divert developer time to optimizing gameplay systems and incorporate all white male writing teams with unified autistic-level interests in a genre or subject matter and put them in a room for a year.

They just need a good writing team and you could easily have one of the best crpgs ever made.

Trudy fucks super mutants

Damn nigga you dumb as hell

>any isometric game
>good

magazines were a mistake
comprehension trait was a huge mistake

Magazines are fine but +10 or +20 was way too high. They should of been only 1 time use per character or maybe per Int.

Is this a New Vegas thread

Attached: 3423423sfdsfs.png (355x277, 40.3K)

1&2 still had the best option where it didn't even tell you the speech option was one unlocked by speech if you didn't have the stat requirements the option didn't show up and it still had a chance to fail.

>They just need a good writing team and you could easily have one of the best crpgs ever made.
Nice to know RPG gamers don't give a shit about gameplay, they just want glorified Choose Your Own Adventure books.

And remove RTwP. Go action or go turn-based but fuck that RTwP shit.

I think that the RPG genre unironically needs to simplify itself, ditch all the DnD shit already

I realized that I don't actually like "role playing" and just want character dress up, different ways to kill shit, and a waifu from a choice of many

Attached: 1553379760428.png (255x216, 32.84K)

>One thing 3 got wrong
Was taking the percentage based skill checks from 1 and then putting a huge tag next to them so you knew which was the I Win button

Flat pass/fail checks are better for non-speech skill checks anyway. You either know what you're talking about or you don't.

FO4 but you can build anywhere and there's rival factions building and trying to conquer your shit imo

Uhh no sweety. Why do you think people cream over new vegas to this day?

Attached: 1577527643586.jpg (540x663, 28.58K)

New Vegas and VTMB are the two most overrated games ever made.

I have a feeling that all the DnD shit that they cram onto the games is holding the genre back

Get rid of crafting systems, they always fucking break the game or they are completely worthless

Make combat simple, instead of having 50 thousand dicerolls per second. The simpler the combat the more you can play around with without giving players easy ways to break the game

Walls of text are fucking cancer, show, don't tell

Attached: heh.png (800x600, 292.66K)

This, but also isometric RPGS.

I can't tell if this is a genuine obsidiot thread or someone falseflagging
Skill checks were the worst part of that "game" and that's saying a lot

>[Repair 12/25] Can I fix your broken heart?

ditch real time combat or ditch attributes and arbitrary skill checks that come with them. S.T.A.L.K.E.R is a good balance between rpg elements and action gameplay, Fallout is a failure

>[Intelligence 1/4] Who hurt you?

it was easy to spot though, speech answers were always 10x the text lenght of generic ones

>computers and locks don't have stat requirements anymore
>at 10 or lower, each mini-game would be what we now know as "very hard"
>each point marginally makes the mini-game easier
>at 100 in each, the end game mini-games would be "normal" or "hard"
Is there a mod for this yet?

It never went away
Go play more RPGs you nigger faggot

And this makes them bad? Sit down, be humble.

So Gone Home is your ideal RPG

CP2077 will save it.

Speech should go back to being unlabelled or just be the access point to the real speech options where you have to gain knowledge about the character or some lore beforehand to convince them.

user I'm not sure I can condone your tomfoolery.

Do you have anything to back that up or just too edgy for what everyone else likes? Go ahead and name your perfect RPG.

Attached: 6f8.png (760x572, 247.23K)

it's only Yas Forums that overrates those games though

Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2
Outer Worlds
Disco Elysium
Undertale
Skyrim
Persona 5 (didn't actually finish it tho lol)
Dishonored 1 and 2
Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls
Torment: Tides of Numenera (Planescape: Torment done right)
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Borderlands
Bioshock Infinite

As opposed to who? normalfags? They still think Skyrim and Mass Effect 2+ are good games.

Ah yes, Mass Effect 2. The bro-shooter of RPGs.

>romjob sans and borderlands better than newvegas
Absolutely pleb filtered. Pillars was fairly meh for how hyped up it was. And Human Revolution is fucing garbage compared to the original. It was as I expected. You just have shit taste and want an FPS with RPG elements.

You could at least try harder in you shitposting efforts.

lol. a little too obvious there

When does that release again?

>>romjob
Meant rimjob. Skyrim is the most basic bitch pleb game on the planet. Come back when you've played Morrowind, cancer.

kek

I know it was a little on the nose but at least one person bought it hook, line and sinker.

Apply yourself user

ME2 is better than either just by virtue of being a finished game

someone has never played underrail, the best CRPG of all time

based

Attached: me2 icon.png (512x512, 1M)

>Gone Home
I haven't played it and it didn't look appealing to me

It's sad because Fallout 1 and 2 are probably the closest i've ever come (And likely the closest i will ever be) to what i would consider my GOAT RPG it's just that it's held back by many things

I love, and i cannot stress this enough, i fucking love that there is no overworld and you are basically moving from town to town with random encounters in the middle.

Overworlds are fucking garbage most of the time because there is nothing to do in them

I also like that weapon upgrades and crafting are exclusively left to vendors and certain NPCs. Crafting systems are trash and they only serve to turn your character into a vacuum cleaner that picks up everything on the floor

The combat is also very simple, combat stats affect nothing but accuracy, i wish the series could've expanded a little bit more on it

Attached: ha.jpg (301x168, 8.05K)

>ME2
>finished
>when the events that lead to ME3 are only available as DLC
>when two of the companions are DLC
>when the whole story with Liara is DLC
>when there's all that other DLC, like how the hell was there so much of this like goddamn
user no

Sadly there is only one successor to the original Fallout games and it's even more flawed.

Attached: Arcanum.jpg (748x1036, 175.91K)

my biggest problem with underrail is that basically all of the "rpg" elements are just different ways to kill stuff. There is very little in the way of interesting dialogue, unique quests, well written characters/companions, etc.

The true true

Just pirate it you fucking mongoloid, you live in the year where you can download almost any game in a matter of hours

you're reaching and you know it
you can play vanilla ME2 out of the box with all the dlc turned off and have a beginning and an ending. hell you don't even need to play ME3, one of the biggest criticisms of 2 is that it's a story that doesn't really connect much to anything outside of 2

Retard

>There is very little in the way of interesting dialogue
Smacktalking muties, learning secrets, and hypothesizing that you may have turned into a big deal in the future because of a man, a dog man.
>Unique Quests
The entire Expansion and each major area.
>well written characters/companions
Crutches and completely unecessary.

>new Pathfinder game just had a crazy successful Kickstarter
>Baldur's Gate 3 looks solid despite all the shitposting
>Microsoft might get something good out of Obsidian

The genre is looking better than it has in years, user.

Not an argument.

Thats what rpg means in video games though

turn-based is in dummy

>Microsoft might get something good out of Obsidian
What's this then?

Attached: hurrrr.jpg (349x642, 29.45K)

>successor to the original Fallout games
What did you think about Age of Decadence user?
I know it's a bit flawed too but it's a pretty good successor to FO games.

ruh oh

based roastoid

lol, get that faggot ass "realistic" glorified CYOA book the fuck out of here

Underrail just bombards me with information as soon as i start and i fucking hate when RPGs are overly complicated, it's like they are trying to filter everyone from playing the game by giving them and encyclopedia as soon as they start the game

>Not an argument.
>complains that part of the story is DLC
>offer a solution
>"BUT THAT DOESN'T COUNT"

I don't even understand what your problem exactly is. The complete edition is out there for you to either buy or pirate with all the DLC ready to go. I really don't understand what your mongoloid brain is complaining about

You seem upset

Have you tried Underrail?

Is this guy trolling

filtered lol

old boomer here, frankly I'm sad BG3 is going the turn based route. RTwP is where it's at

It relies way too much on trial and error and rerolling your stats to clear specific encounters to be in any way enjoyable. I never got good at it and gave up.

It doesn't do any of that. You're probably thinking of Tyranny, that does exactly that.

Underrail just introduces you to SGS and sets up the earthquakes. From there, you just do errands until you end up in the world at large.

hack all stats and double the sp

>the fact that the game was released in an incomplete state and fixed with DLC doesn't count because you can steal the DLC
user...

Nope. It's just sad youre so starved so attention you feel the need to act like a retard just for a little bit of acknowledgement. Last you. Savor it until your next retardshit

Turn-based is better on every level
