Well I already have a Game Pass ultimate subscription which covers Xbox Live costs and plenty of free games for PC and Xbox. Unless they're going to fuck Game Pass up somehow, this new console seems like a pretty sweet deal financially.

No mods, no fan patches, no emulation of non-XBOX games, not even music playing. PC can play most games that have ever been released. MS need to knock it out of the park with exclusives because multiplats and BC alone don't cut it, despite there being a good few games I'd like to play with better performance.

Games are gonna hit 300+gb and your TB of internal storage is gonna be filled with just ~5 games, then it'll be an extra $150 for a 1tb memory card. You can use a usb external hard drive to store games, but they can't be played until you transfer them back to the internal memory or a memory card. You can play backwards compatible xbox/360/xbone games off a usb drive but thats it.

Gonna be a hard pass from me, proprietary memory kills every system it touches (xbox360 hard drives, psp and vita memory cards..)

Yeah of course, I'm not gonna get rid of my PC just because a powerful console is on the market. PC will always be my go-to place for old emulation and obscure japanese h-games and whatnot.

But let's say I wanted to play some brand new triple A game that's available on PC and Xbox, at similar price too. How would this closed off platform-thing affect me then?

Because the only reason they can afford to sell you this hardware at a reasonable price is because they recoup the cost through software sales. Keep in mind that simply selling the console for slightly more than the manufacturing cost is not enough, they also have years of research and development to pay for.

Say 4 years of R&D cost 1 billion.
They can manufacture the console for $360 per unit.
They sell it for $399.99.
Yay they make $40 for every console sold.
Except they now have to sell 25 million units to break even.
So they make all the software proprietary.
Now the software basically prints money because A.) They make a % from every game sold through the consoles digital storefront. B.)They pay code monkeys a one time fee to make first party games and then those games continue to sell for years while big guy gets all the revenue.

Now suddenly they only need to sell 10 million units and 20 million games to break even, and everything after that is profit.

Some retailers are offering preorders for 599€ in Europe, but I'm cautiously pessimistic about that. Would be nice if it really was less than 600 for all that, but a RTX 2080 Ti alone is still around 1200€.
