What would you like to see in XC3?
Is Xenogears REALLY a masterpiece if it didn't include the fast text mod on release?

>Is Xenogears REALLY a masterpiece if it didn't include the fast text mod on release?
It wouldn't be a masterpiece WITH it. The game is an under-polished, over-written mess.
From this...
...to this.
Well, everyone would agree that it's under polished, but its' writing is what makes it a classic beloved by many. What do you consider over written?
to this
>What do you consider over written?
The 10,000 year backstory of the game's world and Fei's entire character arc.
To this...
lmao let's compare the comic relief scene with a plot important one
also isn't gears that game that is literallly unplayable tier of bad to actually play the shitty battles?
So you got filtered by the opening history scroll or what? I prefer a world that has a fleshed out history to underwritten generic wasteland #1007 worlds
If the next game has any more gacha lite bullshit I'm not buying itp
based mods
What did the mods do?
I think we're getting XC:DE news soon. Direct seems to be coming next week and online retailers are estimating May 29th again
deleted xfags posts
I deleted them myself lol
>I prefer a world that has a fleshed out history to underwritten generic wasteland #1007 worlds
I mean, Xenogears' world basically turns INTO a generic wasteland by the time you can explore it again in the second disc. Prior to that, it's just a vehicle to get from point A to point B. There's no real exploration in the first disc. You're riding the coattails of the plot and you have zero reason to ever backtrack or go to some side area. And besides, most of the "world building" amounts to plot dumps in cutscenes rather than via any interactive means. To me that sucks ass. I wanna play a JRPG, not watch a PowerPoint slideshow.
I don't think the team at Monolithsoft really got the hang of making their games have exploration until they made DBZ:Attack of the Saiyans. I have yet to play it but looking at trailers you can see their style shine through. What happened on disc 2 is an unfortunate consequence of running out of development time, but at least they were able to finish the story instead of leaving everyone hanging. I think just following the plot in Xenogears still makes for an excellent experience
I can't believe Xenoblade went back in time and did this to Xenogears.
>What are the official sales comparisons between XC1, X and 2?
XB1: via Media-Create, sold 161k in its first year in Japan. No official numbers from Nintendo, but according to the XB3D Iwata Asks, the overseas sales were higher than the Japan sales and Takahashi considers its reception in Japan "strong", something Monolithsoft apparently expected.
X: via Famitsu, 114k in its first year in Japan. According to NPD it sold 200k in its opening month in the US. No official numbers from Nintendo.
XB2: via Famitsu, 213k in Japan as of December 31st 2018. In a September 2018 interview with Usgamer Takahashi said that XB2's sales "exceeded my expectations", especially in NA and EU territories. At 1.73 million worldwide as of March 2019 according to Takahashi in a June 2019 interview with 4gamer.
Torna: I don't know of any sales numbers for this, but in the same September 2018 interview where Takahashi discussed XB2's sales he said it was still early but "from what we've seen in Japan, the sales of the Torna DLC are exceeding our expectations as well".
For X, you could estimate the sales based on an unique enemy which you fight very early into the game and that can't be fought again.
Last time I checked (some time in 2016) it was around ~500k iirc.
please explain further which enemy and how do i check
This guy. This pic is from the 25th of January of 2016.
You fight this unique during Chapter 2, and you can't fight him again during the same playthrough, which allows him to be a decent estimate of the sales of the game.
>What happened on disc 2 is an unfortunate consequence of running out of development time, but at least they were able to finish the story instead of leaving everyone hanging.
Well then, maybe - just maybe - they should've not added as much crap to the plot as they did and made a game with a scope that wasn't totally unreasonable for a two-year development cycle.
Neat, but I assume that doesn't account for repeat playthroughs or offline players.
Thanks user. Adding to that Xenoblade Chronicles 3D sold 56,932 in its opening week, then apparently reaching somewhere under 75,000 sales later on. Nintendo was satisfied with its results by the end of November 2015 after its release in April, considering that it was only for the New 3ds. No official sales numbers that I could find
Are the numbers worldwide?
Hindsight is 20/20, they had ambition and made something great and memorable out of it despite some faults. I can't really fault them too hard for it
>Hindsight is 20/20, they had ambition and made something great and memorable out of it despite some faults. I can't really fault them too hard for it
I can. They didn't learn from their mistakes and did the same thing again a few years later, which got both Takahashi and Saga fired from the Xenosaga project for losing Namco a lot of money.
>he didn't play gears
Xenogears gameplay while a bit undercooked is actually really cool and fun to do. Disc 2 is a pleb filter
iirc physical sales of Torna were bad but that was because everyone who wanted it got it in the season pass
Disc 2 happened because they weren't sure if they were going to be allowed to make a sequel and because Square Enix was siphoning money from projects to give Final Fantasy more budget.
Anyways it's great seeing that we finally got prequels to Xenogears with Xenoblade 1 and 2
Just give me XCX2 already
>Square Enix was siphoning money from projects to give Final Fantasy more budget.
Square Enix didn't exist back then and the money siphoning rumor was debunked in an interview with Takahashi himself.
Which interview?
Who are you quoting?
you get X2 but it's released as an early access title with extremely slow updates
The Real Story Behind Xenogears' 'Unfinished' Disk 2
kotaku.com
>“Honestly speaking, what had happened is Xenogears as a project was staffed pretty much entirely out of new staff members, young staff members,” said Takahashi, speaking through a translator. “Back then, we had the direction of, ‘All projects take two years and that’s when we need to get it done.’ So on top of developing the game, we had to nurture and teach and grow these younger employees. Things like 3D were extremely new, which led to some delays in the schedule. It just wasn’t possible to get everything done.”
>As it became clear that Takahashi and team weren’t going to hit their deadlines, Square’s higher-ups suggested that they just end the game after the first disc, when Fei and his team escape from Solaris.
>“It was a rough way to end it, and I felt like if we do that, then the players will not be satisfied,” Takahashi told me. “So we had a proposal—I proposed that if we do disc 2 in this way that it turned out to be, we can finish the game with the current number of staff and the current time allotted for the schedule and the remaining budget we have.”
True, games should be criticized for being rushed and a mess, but for some reason Xenogears is considered a "masterpiece"
A game can be both a rushed mess and a masterpiece, or a perfectly polished and well developed piece of garbage.
>or a perfectly polished and well developed piece of garbage.
What is an example of this, though?
The Order: 1886
>Post what you like.
I like Elma
Just got the first piece of the bunny set, doesn't take too long with cheats, I want 4 complete sets of both variations, I say that's going to take like 2 days
I don't think anyone would call that game polished or well-made. Beyond its graphics, it's a total mess.
>doesn't take too long with cheats
Well no shit.
oh can CEMU give you credits?
thanks,
im gonna check right now
I mean, I heard it took people months to get it legit, I'm not grinding for months just for a bunnysuit
Yes, you can activate some online features, to get tickets I personally just use the 1000x tickets mod and kill enemies listed in the Squad Task, not sure if that's the best way but it's working
guess that's fair with there being no online on the emulated version
right now numbers slain is: 581 700
and defeated by is 128 606 now it got a gold crown next to it "defeated by
" is called defeats or failures in german so im not sure what this number is supposed to indicate
defeated by means people who lost to the unique
so over 120k people who had no idea how to play when they fought that boss
I died to it
physical torna sold 5k on release in japan, I don't think it showed up again after that.
11) [NSW] Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country (Nintendo, 09/21/18) – 5,697 (New)
never
I want a good game instead.
It managed to kill 51k players?
Except that's not a good way to judge since people who stole the game via piracy can fight Volkampf and go online.
Although we don't know the full extent of lost sales due to the emulated version.
Of all the things possibly being added to Definitive Edition, what would you guys want most? Other than Bionis shoulder since it's basically confirmed. For me I'd have to go with enhancements to the combat system.
Bonus exp + level down option.
A compass that shows the location of sidequest NPCs, fashion gear slots, improved AI (especially Shulk and Melia), more H2H with low affinity requirements so you can read them while your journey instead of 90% of them only being accessible basically post-game unless you grind for affinity, a mix of Torna-style typed digging spots and XC1/X-style random floating orbs for collectibles, improved walking and swimming speed (at or near X-levels) and the removal of quickstep gems.
Less cringe.
>I just cheat because I'm a faggot
LOL
How many Tyrants have gold crows now?
It's okay to cheat tickets now that the online is effectively dead. Cheating other resources though is retarded
>It's okay to cheat
No it's not. And it's okay can easily solo the Squad tasks and missions.
Stop trying to justify being a thief.
