Legit flawed concept, when he got his own game nobody made fun of the demons because edgy they made fun of the guns because its a cartoon animal with mickey mouse gloves holding a realistic fire arm, the aesthetic clashes and there's a reason he doesn't work in sonic mania, he's been written better of the years though by treating him like a normal character rather than needing a tragic backstory that was kind of absurd

from the beginning they wanted him to be vegeta, up to the point where he goes super with his rival friend, except the reason why vegeta worked was because he really was a monster before joining goku, he was a murderer, shadow they just said let's make him look mean and talk rude and give him a tragic backstory, but they forgot to actually make him evil

Originally he was meant to be more pure, he had an ego but his creator intended him to be more innocent and he had the boku way of speech (which is primarily used by children), and even in the English dub he talked with that slight British accent and had his innocent connection with Maria. Vegetadow wasn’t a thing until much later.

Vegeta was still a thorough bastard even during his time on Earth. He really didn't mellow out at all until after Cell died. Even then he didn't truly come around to being a good guy until Piccolo tells him how awful of a person he truly is during the Buu saga, a saga that could've been entirely prevented if Vegeta wasn't an evil prick and didn't go Majin because Goku coming back made him feel like the manlet he truly is.

DBS fucking sucks for many reasons, but Vegeta's characterization is definitely one of them. It downplays all the bad shit Vegeta pulled in his past and how malicious of a person he is deep down, now he amounts to nothing more than "grumpy Goku".

How Freeza acted during the ToP is how Vegeta should have been all along

Shadow was pretty monstrous in SA2, manipulating his creator's grandson into giving him macguffins so he can crash a space station the size of the moon into the earth for revenge.

Granted, his memories were rewired by Gerald (this is poorly explained and conveyed in game) but still.

That firearm is still cartoony. Shadows was hyper realistic.

Team Fortress 2 is a comedic violent cartoon aesthetic, there's plenty of old cartoons that have guns but shadow isn't meant to be funny, you're supposed to take it seriously in shadow's game, that's why its so off putting, same reason why Conker worked

The few human-class guns in his game are all pretty much at that level of detail, and there’s also the strange alien guns, the Eggman weapons, and the wacky special weapons like the chicken vore gun and the friendship cannon. Another thing people don’t really bring up is the fact that all of the non-generic humans in his game have the same giant hands, feet and proportions as Eggman, but for some reason people still call them “realistic.”

People have always connected very well with characters like Shadow, Zuko, or Vegeta, those who are evil but want to be good. Even since the dawn of storytelling, in the Epic of Gilgamesh you have Enkidu, who was created to stop Gilgamesh but ended up becoming his closest ally.
