Consoles come out with stronger more affordable specs than most gaming PCs—run the market for like a year until mid-high tier gaming PCs catch up with them and then consoles lag beyond for the final three years of its lifespan to even modest PCs. NVME isn't that much more expensive than SATA, this isn't poor vs rich dilemma, this is performance dilemma. NVME is useful for OS and big data transfer, but gaymes don't see any improvement as they are bottle necked by GPUs BUS.

I'm sure this is because games don't need to transfer their data any faster than what the consoles do. so why would the devs bother. I recently played Dead Rising 2 on my PC through an SSD. The loading times were still long and the game never uses more than 400MBs of RAM.

Not really, Crysis isn't multithreaded, it was made under the assumption clock speeds would keep getting higher. A multithreaded version of the game exists but only on consoles. If they ever re-released the game on PC with that multi-threaded version we could probably run it on max with todays computers
