Less obscure mechanics and pointless backtracking
Better bosses, half of them are pretty meh
If you have the original Hollow Knight, it should take advantage of it and do an &Knuckles thing where you can play the original Hollow Knight with Hornet. And maybe play Silksong with the Knight.
Less backtracking would also be a big boon in my eyes.
Maybe at least having the objectives not on opposite sides of the entire map in alternating order. Once the map opened up, it was a lot more tedious.

The game's a solid 9/10, but I did feel like putting it down a few times due to traversing the fuck out of the map.
Make the ability order more flexible
Better fast travel, more dynamic combat options than "attack button"
ability to pick your gender and pronouns like in shovel knight
One of the achievements should be picking the wrong gender and killing yourself
Start with dash or double jump
A bit less backtracing
Some tweaking of bouncing off floor spikes when playing kb+m, it's not bad but doesn't feel quite right
More primal aspids
Make spells not be an either/or to healing - it's not viable for first playthrough whatsoever which is a shame
Still, it was a solid 9/10 so I'm buying silksong on release
Oh, and also more boss fights that have mechanics which require you to use some unlockables (like radiance's beam/wall of light which only shadow cloak lets you get through).
I don't care if they need to gate the progression or let players run into a wall, but with the design philosophy being that 'you can kill everything with essentially zero upgrades, mobility or otherwise' the combat is missing out on some interesting mechanics imo

You have to explore your options in a game. This is like complaining I was stuck for 45 minutes because I didint realize there was a jump button. It is largely the players job to figure out what actions they can and cannot do.

Traversing the world shouldn't be such a fucking chore. Dying and going back to a bench 5 minutes away was always annoying. Also no mini loading screens every 10 seconds, Ori made me realise there's absolutely no need for this in a metroidvania.

I am only now playing this game and passed this part a while ago. You had to pogo on enemies and spikes earlier already so I didn't think twice about it, add to that the fact the shrooms bounce you even when you don't hit them only an absolute retard wouldn't at least trying hitting them.
More content, less shitty 1-2 attack pattern bosses. I don't mind if there's fewer bosses but they're as fleshed out as Lost Kin/Mantis Lords etc

Nothing made me realise how bad most of the bosses were more than the pantheon of hallownest.
Not saying they all need to be NKG or Pure Vessel, but some more like Broken Vessel and Soul Master would have been nice.
The community ghost bosses can go fuck themselves one and all, especially Markoth

put a fucking bench next to boss rooms, is it that god damn hard? there is nothing that pisses me off than having to walk 3 minutes through a bunch of enemies, getting hit once, falling down on spikes, then having to attempt the boss with half hp when i couldnt even beat him with full hp previously. its just bullshit
They should have gotten rid of the tedious and archaic room-based experience. But from what we've seen in the gameplay demo, it is still there
