I played it free last year and it was fun but I quit as soon as I hit the level max and the main story ended. Then I played a different character class and did it again. I had a really good time with it. Very enjoyable experience.

It's circling the drain right now becaues the current season's content amounts to a watered down version of the previous season's content, while resources were devoted to bringing back a shit PvP mode very few people wanted (it was removed from the game in the first place because nobody fucking liked it), and they even managed to fuck that up.
I'm convinced the good parts of the series had little to do with Bungie, as The Taken King and Forsaken were both co-developed with another studio under Activision. The people in charge have no fucking idea what they're doing, dev time is mismanaged and everything is leaning heavily into trying to get people to buy cosmetics.

I like Destiny gunplay but fuck there is just too much bullshit fluff to grind .

PvE is the standard looter shooter. PvP is unbalanced, but fun.

Whatever is free I was charged 40$ for (Base game + 2 DLCs). I didn't get anything when it became F2P and so I won't give Bungie more money.

the new season is shit, the game is only fun if you have friends and its only occasionally fun. pvp has a lot of cheaters and bullshit weapons/abilities that people use. pve is very easy and the enemy ai is simple, not like halo where the enemies react on what is happening around them. there are some retarded design decisions and stupid shit as well.

It's fucked up. Devs decided to make everyone's game start from the end, character has maximum level, and there are only 6 missions to accomplish.

From someone who played and dropped it because it consumed too much time, there's way too many fucking activities if you PVP. And why the fuck would you play this game if you don't also PVP.

Also avoid the Yas Forums clans unless you enjoy pure concentrated neckbeards talking about how they hate their "wives" and how much they hate niggers 24/7

I only do the PvP weeklies and occasional beer and pretzel nights with friends.
Mostly enjoy the PvE aspect of it with friends.

Debatable, generally they're coarse, but people don't actively spout vitriol at each other for no reason and the skill level tends to be above average (although with how mainstream Yas Forums is nowadays, I suppose that's questionable as well). I've had my best times in gaming playing with idiots from Yas Forums, but the fucks playing this game are a special brand of edgelords. Made me feel like I'm right back on Yas Forums in the late 1990's. The CS:S partyvan era (fuck you Mike you cancerous jew for destroying what we had so you could line your pockets by selling admin perks to retards), and SCP:SL were unironically some of the best times I've had playing video games.

The f2p has at least 100 hours of stuff to do without any grinding. It's fun if played casually.

This, I wouldn't even bother playing this game if I didn't have someone to play it with. It's very obviously designed to be played with others, what with fireteams going up to 3 players and there being 3 main classes. That's also the best way to experience the loot progression system and reduce the grinding to next to nothing, because all the players grinding for higher tier rewards and rolls are doing so only because they don't have a good team to tackle harder boss fights with.

I've never played a "looter shooter" before. Downloaded this and while the game is beautiful and the gunplay is really excellent, it doesn't personally do it for me. Nothing makes me want to continue playing. The jumping is cool. Dungeons are too.

It's shit but the gunplay is fun. the game entire game is just about shooting sponge enemies and meme meta PVP. and it has a great PVE+PVP gamemode called gambit. if you're actually willing to give it a try then do the available raids when you're about to quit since they're the highlight point of destiny for me personally. D1>D2 by miles, such a shame that destiny is a wasted potential of a game.

Well of course, the production values are too high for them to just give everything away for free. As it stands, there's already a ton of shit that's free. All three campaigns, all of the patrol zones and most of what's on them, and all the strikes and pvp modes are free. You don't have to play for the meta either, I enjoy playing the game for what it is.

BUT, it really helps to be playing with someone. I rarely play alone. It's so much better with someone else. You have access to a better experience with a fireteam.

Can someone explain what makes this game attractive other than its shitty gambling mechanics that draws in the players?

The game is fun at first despite the awful capeshit writing (that doesn't matter much because the whole story is skipped by default so all you have to deal with are the awful jokes between shooting segments), but the grind loop is seriously dull and makes no sense (best stuff is super easy to get, the mediocre stuff is a pain in the dick to farm so why bother), and honestly I can't stand this "all new content have an expiration date and will be deleted" model, especially because you have to pay $10 to actually access said new content. It's like buying a DLC that will be uninstalled automatically after 3 months.
And the game isn't actually free like the usual F2P shooter, you will just play a big demo with some inevitable paywall. At one point I found a hidden chest while fucking around in the first world and all I got from it was a "BUY THE FORSAKEN DLC TO GET THIS EPIC LOOT" pop-up.

I think Bungie Destiny was their attempt at making a Space Pulp game user (Bungie said it wanted to be in the same category of fame as Star Wars) but the problem is as you already said Bungie has no creativity at all.

I'll have to agree with the other dude. Vanilla destiny 2 is pretty much capeshit bait for big audiences. They realized it was the worst cancer possible and toned it down for subsequent releases. Forsaken was pretty cool and nowadays lore is also somewhat decently handled
That said I disagree with the rest. This shit gives you like 100 hours of content (quality could be argued) and you actually get some free features from paid expansions
Not many free games have that kind of gameplay mechanics and stuff
