Cantonese uses the Chinese script. PRC China's province of Guangdong or Canton as it is otherwise known, uses the Simplified Chinese script but speaks in Cantonese not Mandarin. Hong Kong uses the Traditional Chinese script but most people there speak in Cantonese as well.

Equating Cantonese to a script is like equating inglés o español to the Latin alphabet.

Mandarin: ri4 ben2 (4 and 2 refers to tones)
Mandarin script (Chinese script): 日本

Japanese: nihon/nippon
Kanji script: 日本

Hokkien: nipun (old chinese is closer to japanese)
Hokkien script(Actually Chinese script): 日本

Cantonese: jih pun (also from old Chinese)
Cantonese script(Actually Chinese script): 日本

There are way more tones in Hokkien and Cantonese but I'm not familiar with the "numbers" associated with the tones.

But besides, usually it's the Cantonese that sound like cats screeching to me. (But I'm a native Mandarin&Hokkien speaker so maybe I'm biased)
