I was too before I went and watch the behind the scenes interview where the general tone seems to be that Alyx is just Valve's way of testing the waters for more Half Life in the future. Also they directly called it a prequel.

Testing the waters can still definitely mean time travel shenanigans. the game wont turn into HL3 half way through like some people are saying but valve directly said it pushes the story forward and that you need to have played ep 2 to play this.

It can be a prequel and still have time travel stuff that recontextualizes the whole narrative (like VNN guy says it does) ala Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

It's not going to work like a traditional game release. Valve knows only a small percentage of its user base has VR and they are not going to do a huge media push on the game as people with the hardware are already going to buy it or getting it for free with the Index. Its something people without the hardware are going to seek out other people playing it or friends with headsets to try so more people see VR as a new and viable medium for more larger scale and budget games and maybe will even start thinking of buying a setup of their own.

I doubt that, it sounds like they're more worried about gameplay than anything else. Plus, dev's said they specifically worked on a prequel because working on hl3 right off the bat on a new platform would bring too much pressure to the team and it would have a higher chance of flopping

when you move tilt the stick gradually forward to accelerate slowly as it will make you feel less sick. avoid vertical movement/jumping and turning with the analog stick as i found that made me sick when i was new to vr

if you want to really test your motion sickness get aircar on steam, its free

Headset is required for headtracking. The immersion is not nearly as good as some shillssay, but it is much more immersive than a flat screen.
Problem is, headset is indeed not necessary for alot of games. Like, I even play Beat Saber with the headset on my forehead, looking at flatscreen mirror and it works pretty fine, although you lose the illusion of the depth but it's not that crucial in Beat Saber.
