I fully agree with you on the point that art needs legit criticism, but I think a lot of people are in weird spots from having no artist friends, no actual idea how to critique, or having friends that get super fucking moody or shitty when they DO offer critique and it's exhausting when they just turn into a chorus of "Wow nice!" and that's it

in my experience, you just have to lead by example, and don't worry if others do the same, and eventually others will catch on.
it's annoying but i find critiquing others' behavior in many cases just causes friction and means they are actually less open to acting differently, even if you're right

i would add to what you guys are saying as a fellow artist, sometimes it's not easy to critique a single art piece, it can lead to nitpicking without knowing exactly what the artist is going for.
i find critique is more productive when you show a range of your work instead of just one piece.
when looking at a single piece, you can run into flukes or one-time problems, and focus can be put on really small things.
but if you show a lot of your work, the person gets to see patterns in how you work, larger-scale problems of your perception, recurring issues. they also get a better sense of the direction you're trying to go. not just things to fix in single pieces, but things to focus on in your artistic development.
