Which Way of the Samurai game do you guys recommend?

3 was my favorite, I was too attached to the world and factions in it to really dig my teeth into 4. 4 had the best setting though
Way of the Samurai 2 was my favorite.
>now that yakuza is getting more popular I need to play a game even shittier than yakuza just to hold on to my REAL weeb cred
None, they're all pretty bad
Was WOTS the one where you could break into people's homes and buttfuck randoms
Yes
It always intrigued me how that played out from a gameplay perspective.
Why is the M the only letter that is red? Is this connected to the Mario lore?
It is one of those rare series where most of the games have pros and cons and there isn't a clean best one. The only one I would say is bad is 3, but even 3 has some really cool routes. I especially like the one which is a sort of bad ending where you fight an endless number of enemies with the other samurai to protect the woman from the start of the game which you cannot win but is very dramatic and cool.

In terms of the actual games
I would say 1 is the best for me because it is designed around the permadeath which is really prominent. You do short runs and go through the many routes the story could take, with death being a major hazard that you can't reload your way out of.
2 and onwards allow you to do this as well, but they also allow you to save which makes you approach the game differently. You won't nope out of a situation because it is too dangerous like you would in 1. From 2 onwards there is a lot more padding (presumably they felt 1 was too short, though I think it was right for the permadeath).
In terms of overall quality I'd say 1 and 4 are the best. 2 and 3 are worth playing if only for a couple of standout routes. I remember the 'virtuous bandit' one in 2 being good. 4 has one particularly stupid bad ending midway through the game that happens if you have aligned with any faction that will get you unless you know it's coming, but that's my only real criticism.
Mechanically I find it very hard to go back from 4, but I think the first game really nailed the concept the best.
You go tho a random NPC, select the fucking option, select three responses back to back, go to a random house, sneek in, go to a random futon, play a wrestling game then you have sex some unique characters have unique requierments
You talking about the pot?
2 really threw me off after playing 1 with all the padding it has. Am I doing something wrong or are you supposed to do all those repeptitive quests?
The pot was a great end and really hammered the point that WTS4 is a game that is ment to be replayed
3 and 4 are pretty great, but I prefer 4 more. Haven't played the other ones though.
Someone said that 3 was better because it was less linear, but it still feels like 4 where you just talk to X character for X faction and you'll get a regular ending unless you do some out there shit for the secret ending
yes
Now that I think about, wasn't there a way to not get the pot but still stay and accept the award?
You generally don't HAVE to do them but yeah every game after 1 has stuff like that.
Zoomer here, played 3 a month ago, meh, understanding all the story triggers was cancer, finished it like 5 times but it wasn't that great.
Is 4 better? I like the idea but i'd like to understand what the fuck i'm doing, also fuck the 30fps limiter.
Yes if you don't do faction missions and just pass the time doing wierd shit/sleeping
Definitely 4, it might be kind of goofy but the setting is interesting and it has the most QoL features, and even then its pretty damn clunky
1 and 4 are my favorites.
I haven't played 3 in a long time so I don't remember if it has the list of events that 4 has incorporated in the game
Fuck I loved the first one as a kid. All the characters and the weird little mysteries or secrets youd find through the game. Game had a lot of "soul". Probably one of the first rpg like games I ever played. At the time I didnt really understand/get why the game ended and I always thought I did something wrong. I had never played a game like that before.
A few years back I tried playing 3? but it sucked ass. Too much running around through pointless spaces. Sad!
Well, that's pretty cool, the ones marked in blood are the ones you can't do anymore?
Might get it later but i've an avalanche of backlog right now and 3 was just one game i played randomly, good to know they added QoL.
Any news about 5?
the menus look like ass but its chink shit so go figure
>the ones marked in blood are the ones you can't do anymore?
Yeah
>Any news about 5?
No, not to my knowledge but check out Kenka Banchou if you want more of this type of game, it's similar to WTS but with Japanese Delinquents instead of Samurais
I hated the tattood guy you first encounter, but then I grew to like him as the story went on. Always felt sad when he died defending his boss from the gov't fucks
I probably played 3 the most out of all of them. Had 4 forever but never really put any time into it.
The new dungeon crawler looks pretty bad.
Same here. WotS was my first ps2 game and Tsubohachi ended up being such a bro. I played the shit out of that game but I could never get the houses to unite because I sucked and was too stupid. It's a shame now that you can just look online for any answers to everything now. Mystery really made even mediocre games a lot more enjoyable.
Katana Kami is pretty fun.
What was her issue?
>kenkai banchou
I'm still sad not a single one besides 3 got translated, plus gachitora exists and its the best one
In my first WOTS4 playthrough ignored all the stoy events, only did the blacksmith quest and recruited the female teacher to my dojo, now Im at the point where time doesnt progress until I go to the tournament, which ending Im going to get?
It’s called 侍道,
龍が如く has been popular since the first game
I wish we could get a new way of the samurai with some serious production value. Maybe cut some of the goofier shit like the dominatrix prison guards.
Secret ending where bathtub-man recruits you into the demonscales
Is that in 4? I don't remember that in 3, never played 4 btw.
Yes
Well fuck, Im just going to use the unlimited time to boost my dojo rating and bed sensei.
Based tryhard weebro.
Should I get the DLC?
I liked 3 the most, once you start getting an idea of what's going on its a lot more engaging
Just leave when they offer you to climb up.
If you were going for lights of hope ending, just look up a guide, it's legitimately impossible to get on that route without one but do all others endings first since there are some really hard fights
How was that dungeon crawler spin-off?
it sounds pretty good in theory but actually playing this game felt like ass
also hated you could miss a ton of shit in just 1 day
For story:
>WotS 2 > Wots 1 > WotS 3 > WotS 4
For gameplay:
>WotS 4 > WotS 3 > WotS 2 > WotS 1
That's what the replays are for also use the event tree
>also hated you could miss a ton of shit in just 1 day
I hated it at first, but it's designed so that you have to make a decision on what you want to do instead of doing everything
you should be giving the developer as much money as you can muster, we need more Way of the Samurai. The developers rushed that dungeon crawler for a reason, they're struggling
4 is my favorite. The customization is great and I didn't mind the tone. The true route is also far better than 3's.
I liked WotS 3 when I played it on console. Want to get WotS 4 but fuck the 30fps limit on PC
Is the dungeon crawler any good?
I really wish these games weren't so low budget. You don't need high budget to make good games but this series is clearly one of those examples where the technical ability isn't able to keep up with or properly execute the ideas present.
>that Moro
unequivocally no. I still bought it though, because it was only 30 dollars because I'll be damned if I let the original devs of Tenchu go bankrupt
Kenshin would destroy all these faggots. stay butthurt fags
r8 my samurai, this one is my favorite ive made

Just play them in order, they're all different and play the same.
i remember this. influenced me make pic related years ago.
Is WotS4 worth buying on PC, even with the 30fps cap
here's a better version, fixed the cropping issue near the hilt
Yes. I've seen it go for like $7 when its on sale.
>Playing 4
>These guns are pretty fun to use but they break so quickly
>I should try to get the unlimited durability affix for one of them
>Mfw I learn the specifics of how you get unlimited durability for a weapon
That is the stupidest shit. If the devs didn't want you to have it on the guns they should have just made it actually impossible.
I wish WOTS game had tolerable combat, even Akiba's Trip had better combat somehow.
4 for gameplay, 3 or 2 for story.
Any of them but Katana kami, as it's a spinoff
WOTS4 is pretty fucking jank as it is. 30fps is perfectly fine for this game in particular
basedo
>as it's a spinoff
It's more like a dying breath of yet another Japanese developer.
Holy fuck, i forgot this game existed Pretty good game and Shion is the best
Why don't they port 3 and 4 to Switch? I'd triple dip on them.
