I used to love doing this, specially with friends around.

It's weird, I want new experiences with games and stuff but at the same time nothing feels as dopamine rewarding as just repeatedly doing the same thing, running over the same pedestrians forever and ever on the same game...why?

I do this but in racing games like Forza Horizon, Burnout or NFS to see how far I can push myself without crashing or messing up.

Well designed open world games make the mere act of traveling from A to B enjoyable which in itself adds to the experience. Far too many games however have travel merely as a means to get to the next mission which dilutes the entire experience.

Shame devs won't add some kind off mission editor just to create more time attack racing tracks. JC2/3 maps looks so damn good, but driving feels deliberately awful just for player touse grapple hook with parachute more. It's the only game series i really want VR support too. Those beautiful maps just made for more than just blowing thing up.

Just Cause 3 is top comfy map design. Or maybe it's because I'm a sucker for the Mediterrean in general. It's really too bad that the devs clearly ran out of development time at the second half of the third island, that alpine environment is beautiful, but almost devoid of content. That, and how they never fixed the massive memory leaks in it. Then, they utterly shat the bed with JUST 4 , and that was it for the franchise.

Just Cause 3s real issue is that - while a staple of the series - the map is too big. A large map that is tedious to cross and ultimately is just copy pasta environments isn't engaging.

Shame the far left of the map is a boring wasteland really. The earlier areas are great though.

You can pass all the idiot drivers whenever you want and not worry about laws but irl you are stuck behind someone who doesn’t know what turn signals are and people who slow to 5 mph to take a turn

Honestly good open world design is hard - really hard and it is an easy trap to fall into to just making the world bigger but that just makes the connecting parts between the areas of interest more noticeable when they are poor. GTA V is another prime example of bigger doesn't mean better as the world for that game is horrifically badly designed. RAGE 2 is another recent example - a lot of the map is essentially a chore to traverse which really dampens the experience.

While a racing game which makes it slightly different (and the dislike from fools who cannot map anything out in their heads) burnout paradise got open word design right. Paradise city is just big enough that it feels big but not so big it takes forever to cross and - almost uniquely - every road flows into the next one smoothly which means no which direction you are traveling it feels natural and smooth (which is a big gripe of mine for NFS underground 2 as it doesn't flow and is why I think UG1 is the better game).
