It didn't exist in the N64 era. But then they added Dark Samus and some stages from newer games, so I don't know. Maybe it was just too difficult to implement. Wario is the first custom non-clone character, after all.

That doesn't matter if the game isn't perceived to be in any kind of direct competition with something Nintendo's putting out (AM2R and Samus Returns, and with how long it had been since the previous Metroid game; note Nintendo still let download links linger for a few days before DMCAing it), or if they're not Patreon-begging over it like AlvinEarthworm and the previous SMBZ reboot. Fangames and mods are fine if you're not trying to make a buck off of it, and the mods and fangames themselves aren't trying at all to keep quiet about themselves, what does stifling threads on Yas Forums do besides make you look like an ass?

Easy pad-out of the roster, though all of them so far are semi-clones since Falco has Melee's side-B instead of a blaster and Young Link/Ganondorf/Dr. Mario have all of their own changes. Wario's the one of them that's completely original but does still share a couple animations with Mario
