How is XCOM2?

I'm still burnt out on XCOM from playing Long War in 2015

Yeah, it is. Even if you don’t like certain things you can just get a mod that erases them (timers are a famous example).

The modding scene for this game is one of the best for any game.

Its good. Some will debate if its better than the original XCOM or XCOM Enemy Within, but its solid.

Note that it has a lot of expansion content worth playing. The basic expansion pass adds a good amount of stuff to the game, but the War of the Chosen expansion is like a whole new level atop that.

Note that there is a really fantastic mod for the XCOM series (XCOM1 Enemy Within and XCOM2) called "The Long War", which adds a fuckload of mechanics, depth etc. For XCOM2, there's a Long War 2 but that's only without the War of the Chosen expansion. For a long time it wasn't updated to be compatible, but thankfully now there's a "Long War of the Chosen" mod which is - I think - up to date with the latest version.

Eh, I don't know about that. Long War 2 by itself is not bad and if you're worried about tedium they already slipstreamed the "make the game not take an eternity" mode in for people who don't want the hardcore LONG war etc.

Also, here's a mod for LWOTC - github.com/long-war-2/lwotc - However, the dev builds (newer than releases on github) are linked on a sub-plebbit; the latest being Dev build 11 which is like from a week ago or something. So its not fully finished but they're working on it and it isn't an abandoned projeect or anything.

It just sucks that Pavonis (the Long War developers) couldn't have continued to finish Long War 2 and added official Chosen support, but they are working on their own indie game t current.

Long War is fucking amazing IF you are up for some Grigsby's World At War kind of insane depth. But it's like going to fucking video game college, at a certain point you're like I could have learned chinese instead of how to play Long War this well.

A Solid 8/10 for me, Commander.

I only played LW1, but yeah it's fun. If you find the original game too shallow it's definitely worth playing. But I dunno if it was really worth finishing, there's still a lot of interesting decisions and interactions later on but it really makes the early game massively, massively better while the lategame is still as meh as original, despite taking WAY THE FUCK longer.

Long War is fine for 1 if you use the settings to speed up the pace and cheat the bullshit DPS race in the base assault. Never bothered with LW2 since I didn't feel the need though.

because cover sucks and so does not being able to control where i'm shooting, also balancing a mod to be over 100 hours on a playthrough is brain damaged

One of the few games i'll always replay.

Im being raped as it is on normal without these guys. Had a mission where a timer was running and I had to blow up some shitty structure.
Timer ticking down, sniper chosen popped in, some shitty codex enemy teleporting all over and splitting in two and when I finally thought I had shit under control, they drop a pod of 3 advents on me and they kill my grenadier. I have no idea how I am supposed to defend or prevent flanking against a teleporting enemy. Also, that fucking weapon disable the codex does actually blows up for damage and the range of that is way bigger than the graphic effect has you believe.
Game's infuriating as fuck. Just now a patrol wandered into me on their turn, they somehow immediately where allowed to act and the robot shot my sniper in the face.
