Weird to think I've seen 90's nostalgia thread on Yas Forums pretty much the past decade and now we're having 00's nostalgia.

This is bait as my younger brother (b. 2000) is a zoomer and had a GBA SP.

Didn't it get bought out by TigerDirect at the end? I had a friend who worked at Radioshack back in high school like over a decade and some years ago.

They're alright. I have two, my original one from whenever the fuck it released, I think 2003 and one I bought two years ago from Japan to play with as it was the newer SP model with the better backlight. The backlight is the main appeal and I can see why some may not like it vs regular GBA. Micro would be nice to own but they're fairly uncommon due to how they released after the DS which already had GBA functionality.

CompUSA, however, had awful service but a great selection. I'm sad it died. I remember buying a Texas Instruments chunky laptop there with Windows 3.1 (external modem not included!), as well as trying out joysticks to use for Mechwarrior 2, Freespace, Descent...the golden age ineed. Hell, playing the Dreamcast demo unit in the waning days of that store. Sonic Adventure blew my mind in 1999. RIP Seg and CompUSA. MicroCenter is like a way better CompUSA, but there are only, what, 10 of them? :(

It's literally encoding a video signal from a VCR or console the same way a broadcast TV signal is made.
Fun fact: you can connect a TV antenna to the output of a console and make it "wireless" by tuning a nearby TV to whatever channel the RF modulator is set to.
