Depends. Some (very few from my experience) girls can play video games just as competently as your average dude. But the vast majority just hurt to play with or to watch play. Like playing with a child who has never played games. If they have played games before, like playing with a younger, impressionable little brother who you aren't allowed to swear in front of. Either way, you don't feel like you're being honest and having a good time, you're trying to make sure they have a good time instead. I play games with women all the time - they're just fine. Better at some games than others. Since women in general aren't socialized to be hyper competitive, I've only met a handful good at competitive multiplayer fightan or shootan. I have met women that are really good at arcade-puzzle, platformer, action games and rhythm games.

One time I played KF1 with this chick for a while and she wanted me to stop playing KF1 with my friends and only play it with her. I figured then that it would be best to avoid these harpies.

I've played with many girls and it's not much different than guys. It's only really different when there's other guys around, almost all of them will lose their shit because a girl is playing. Then the game devolves into who can white knight the hardest or who can piss her off the quickest.
Girls definitely bring down cohesion between male players, but that's a cultural thing, if we just stopped white knighting and/or teasing female players there would probably be more of them around.
