I watched a few episodes of Sun and Moon, when Ash takes the field trip back to Kanto and actually really enjoyed it.

It was more like a slice of life anime than regular pokemon. Actually had some clever jokes too.

1. Everything after has been dogshit. The SPECIAL split going into Gen 2 was a mistake and the physical/special split in Gen 4 was the final nail in the coffin.

Ya, proper battles are few and far between but the goods are better and there are some reps that tug at feelings.
The league would easily be the worst league out of every season if not for the final battle which is imo best battle in entirety of pokemon.

That was the last gen where they actually tried. Apparently Masuda got so disillusioned with the response of HURR WHERE'S MY FLAMING DRAGON DOGGO that he lost faith in the series.

Gen V

Gen 4 is my favorite.

2 and 4.

>8 so far is a mess. I do like the new Pokemon, but the mainline game felt rushed and everything just feels not that great to play. Gigantamax Pokemon are a dumb gimmick and the shit they did with the TMs was a step back.

3. They had fixed some bugs from Gen1 and 2 but hadn't jumped on the let's-make-parts-of-the-game-depend-on-internet-servers-that-aren't-going-to-be-maintained-forever bandwagon.

Either 4 or 5. I played gen1-3 when they released but not with the same investment, and the ones afterwards felt lackluster in comparison.
