I've just started making a game and I fear I'm doing similar things.
The character can dash which sends them forwards and upwards, and if you dash again right as you land you keep the speed and build up more and more speed. There's gonna be a combo system that counts how many times you've bounced well (above a certain speed).

The picture you posted makes me fear using if statements at all, but I don't know any other way.

There is nothing wrong with nested 'if' structures (though if you're reaching >= 3 levels you might want to think it over again). The main issue with yanderedev is his complete asinine use of them. Like in pic. Instead of using a switch structure with binary constants, he's using a rat's nest of elseif and string comparisons. The guy doesn't know how to program at all.

And also, stop using squared magnitude, just use magnitude / length. Squared magnitude is only useful for extremely low level high perf code, which the Unity C# VM isn't, why the fuck did they even to add sqrMag in the vector API, nobody will ever know

The most important thing about your code is that it works, and that it's easily readable and understandable by other people (you in the future are also another person than you today).

If you are ever worried about having to many if-statements, then you can always use the State pattern (if you can). It creates a little more code and clases, but it separates behaviours from each others.
