Naughty Dog and TLOU2 is fucked

>loses 70% of their staff and has to hire inexperienced juniors and film animators due to industry veterans avoiding Naughty Dog like the plague

Here's your "quadruple A" bro.

naughty dog has a really bad reputation for crunch so it's impossible for them to find industry vets, they have to resort to fucking VFX specialists that literally work on movies and not games

You mean like exactly what tlou is?

Current naughty dog has nothing to do with old naughty dog

Based

>be 50 year old boomer
>be extremely talented game vet
>have resume of a bunch of classic games
>know your talent and worth
>have a family and life you want to live
>"Hey man come over and work 100 hours a week at Naughty Dog just give up your life for our game."

They're rightly giving ND the finger and now they have to hire naive zoomers.

I'm in a minority here when I say Uncharted 1-3 were very entertaining and TLoU had some merit, but I think we can all agree that Naughty Dog needs and frankly deserves to be put down at this point, not that that'll happen anytime soon. I just want hacks like Druckmann out of the industry asap before they can do more harm

They have a worse reputation than fucking Rockstar in terms of being a slavemill where you work like 100 hour weeks and at least with Rockstar you get to put a fucking Rockstar game on your resume meaning you can work anywhere you fucking want afterwards. Tons of people from both SSM and ND have left to join other studios in the area, especially Initiative since most of their leads are people who are known to not be slavedrivers.

This is pretty much what will still happen. People will praise it ad claim its too deep for you if its shit + ND has enough money to grease all the reviewers so they will shill it to the end of the world.

It is a movie. The script will be again something like 10k pages long like in the first one

>Said the seething Xbro for the 89th time

Crunch doesn't even work either. You get less done in 12 hours than you do in 4.

How is crunch still an issue in the industry? I feel like devs have been complaining about how crunch is built into the timeline rather than just planning longer timelines to avoid mandatory crunch for years and years now.

Well with Neil"If you're having fun, i will get my gun" Drunkman cracking the whip. I expect this to be a shitshow. If they are burning through artists, how are they keeping a single vision intact?

and normalfags will never know about the troublesome dev process and only see the glowing reviews it will get

>How is crunch still an issue in the industry?

It's due to young people are essentially willing to sacrifice everything to work their dream job, there's a constant supply of fresh meat. This creates a culture of "Dude I was here last night bro where were you? We're all in this together". Veteran game devs are quitting the AAA industry en masse because they're too fucking old and too fucking smart to fall for this shit anymore.

Because games cost a fuckton of money to make. So longer dev times cause a ton of money problems. As much as I hate to praise them Ninja Theory has had a good way of avoiding the problem by having multiple games be developed by smaller teams at the same time with smaller scopes instead of thousand man projects that require everyone to work themselves into dust. Also allows multiple tasks to be done by one person so if you're burnt out on coding you can go do some work on animation or art so you're not completely creatively dead by the end of the week.

>and normalfags will never know about the troublesome dev process and only see the glowing reviews it will get

Some Naughty Dog devs are actually saying they want the studio to have their Anthem moment were they realize this shit isn't substainable. Probably won't be TLOU2 but I think its coming.

Will still sell billions, get 10/10s from paid reviews and snoydrones, and nothing will change.

the split in opinions between journo bugmen like Schreier that'll give this a 10/10 and those on Yas Forums is pretty amazing when you think about it
I'm not sure how to put it into words, but I feel like there's going to be some gamergate 2.0 sort of shit in the near future

Considering how artificial and misleading goobergate was about paid reviews only the dev paid with sex and not about harrasment it was, i wouldnt be surprised if some shit like that would come again rather sooner then later. oh yea, has Zoe stayed away from internet now that she killed one guy with her false claims?

>Had to go back and bolt on new elements to the game because Druckmann's original vision for Ellie's story "wasn't resonating" with playtesters

They basically admitted that the game is a fucking disappointing and now they're trying to retroactively fix a sequel that shouldn't exist in the first place.

I think Druckman needs to leave ND. Say what you want about nu-ND but Uncharted 1-3 were solid games and so was TLOU. However something definitely happened internally at ND when UC4 got rebooted and they kicked out one of the best writers in the industry (Amy Henning). There seems to have been a huge shift in the studio culture after this reboot happened and I’m honestly gonna blame Druckman.

Here’s some food for though the PS1, 2 and 3 all had four original games developed by ND. The PS4 will only have 2. I know its getting more expensive to make games but still it’s interesting to think about.

lmao of course she fucking hasn't, are you cereal

no shit

its just another third person cover shooter

I know she took a small break at least, was hoping it would have last forever like with Phil Fish ragequitting the industry and internet altogether

It's up there with Hellblade 2 in terms of sequels that really didn't need to happen but at least Hellblade set up a sequel with the secret scene and ending line. TLOU expending all it's material in the first game. Honestly can't understand why they're making a sequel outside of being greedy.

I've only just started hearing about crunch at ND, but this thread makes it seem like something everyone's known about for a long time

>its just another third person cover shooter
you probably meant, walk to the next cutscene

literally what the fuck is taking these games so long?
They had 7 years to make this, Cyberpunk and GTA6 as well

You know those studios have been making other games too, right

He looks like an idiot making bank for voice acting on a game that will be hailed as the third coming of Jesus by normalfags all over the planet and score 10/10s on every review site?

Doesn't matter, the studio bled all the talent. This is their Dragon Age Inquisition moment.

U4 was the best U though, nig insert was the only low point of the game. Amy Henning is massively overrated.

this game is going to have more money spent on advertising than the actual game's budget, isn't it? same thing happened with TW3
that kind of shit marks the decline of the industry

>I know its getting more expensive to make games but still it’s interesting to think about.

To be fair, every first party studio had more titles developed for each previous generation. It's a fact that current games take much longer to develop due to modern quality demands.

>loses 70% of their staff
To HIV?

Because the industry is a dream job and the skill ceiling is high enough that employers can offer shit terms and still get willing employees.

studios generally used to have a bigger output.
Rockstar alone made like 10 games inbetween GTA 3 and GTA SA. Graphics and cinematics ruined mainstream video games.

Attached: Hennig.jpg (643x482, 53.79K)

i wish

but its basically getting rid of your old experienced employees for new ones that you can pay peanuts

what do you men? Wasn't Dragon Age Inquisition a pretty good game?

I feel sorry for Amy, she wrote some of the best written games in history but never gets any recognition and now Neil Kikemann has driven her out of the industry. I know apparently she was kind of a pain in the ass to work with but she seems like a person who actually gives a shit about the games writing unlike most writers.

>Uncharted 1-3 were solid games
Nah the gunplay was kinda shit, enemy AI even worse, and there were only ever marginal improvements, if any between games.
And all the stories are summer blockbuster turn-your-brain-off shit. Nothing to write home about really.

Agreed. U4 has the best encounter design, best setpieces, and an actual story.
TLL is #2 simply because it's running with the same gameplay as U4

>50yr old boomer
You made me laugh user. You made me laugh. I laugh at you. You user!

Not as good as Bioware games are supposed to be. But everyone still bought it and gave it high scores. And Bioware was pretty much dead ever since

>studios generally used to have a bigger output.
And games generally used to be a lot smaller and require a lot less work.

>How is crunch still an issue in the industry?
Console generations are shorter and shorter and unchecked capitalism fuels corporations. Especially since the government hasn't kicked in the doors and regulated anything. Trump and Biden sure aren't going to stop workers from being exploited.

Dude, no

They have lesbian gameplay so it's all good and forgiven. Now shush.

--kotaku

>running with the same gameplay as U4
WRONG. The fun of U4 encounters came from the blend of stealth, melee, shooting and acrobatics. Here you only have stealth and melee, shooting is toned down and acrobatics are gone entirely. There's no way combat will be as FUN as it was in U4. Doesn't even have a rope you can use to let you get out of a shootout.

Every company would be happy to have no 50 year old boomers.

it came out during the anthem shit that the devs who worked on inquisition were completely overworked and mistreated, having breakdowns. they wanted the game to fail so EA would see that's not the way to develop a game but it was well received lol

Well that's why it's #2 m8

AAA games nowadays need photorealism which means making assets takes forever.

Amy Henning and Bruce Straley were the main creative forces behind the more modern naughty dog games.

Neil Druckmann is the business man, ie jew; his whole social political stances is nothing but a farce to cover up for the fact that he runs a fucking sweatshop. Druckmann and Straley were the classic business/creative duo, Straley had the vision and Druckmann knew how to make it happen. However over time Druckmann pushed Henning and Straley away, either intentionally or unintentionally; because he wanted to go "bigger". H&S saw the writing on the wall and how everything was blowing up to insane levels and left, Druckmann is still trying to push the envelope but soon the bubble is gonna burst.

Guess that explains why it looks so bad. Still, you'd think the pay would be really good for a veteran in the industry.

the assets were simpler yes, but they were also made on fucking toasters which took forever to render shit.
Squaresoft literally deleted their classic FF assets to save on hard disk space

honestly?
bureaucracy and shareholders

>AAA games nowadays need photorealism which means making assets takes forever.

Photorealism is actually cheaper and more efficient thanks to photogrammetry. It helps a lot with asset creation. The real problem is the insane production values I think, stuff like having small detailed animations for every moment.

No, YOU want to be another DA:I moment because everyone here have a hateboner for the first game and the sequel also have sjw culture on top pf that. This is like the game that had everything that Yas Forums. Yas Forums want to see it fail, but having in mind is a sony game, i doubt

Is it any surprise it sucks working for a studio that doesn't believe in fun?

Kotaku was the one that pointed ND doing crunch

>Squaresoft literally deleted their classic FF assets to save on hard disk space
At that time it was common practice to delete games when they were finished and on the market.
The thought was that they wouldn't need those assets or code anymore, because the game was done.

Not really about the low disk space. As if they couldn't have bought more.

I don't know dude, they seem to be slacking in the multiplayer department, they haven't talked much about it or shown much.

then why the fuck NRS makes 3 games per generation?

based retard

nrs?

stop defending them

i don’t think a lot of people really cared about the multiplayed in the uncharted and first TLOU. But you’re still right that is kinda red flag when it isn’t that hard to add

I'd love more Jak and Daxter, but I'm glad we didn't get a Jak made under Druckmann. What a shitshow that would have fucking been.

Attached: 1581342037775.jpg (480x451, 28.14K)

WTF user she’s mediocre af.

>they have to resort to fucking VFX specialists that literally work on movies and not games
So? TLOU is not a game, it's not my opinion, it's they're trying to push.
