I never understood why Yas Forums is so against Doomguy ending up being exactly like what everyone portrayed him as. Honestly him going from a marine soldier and survivor to an absolute warrior feared by the denizens of hell feels like character development to me. Doom Slayer is still Doomguy at the end of the day.

I agree. If you were going to carry on his story, its really the only way to go. He can't constantly be a lone marine that's wet-behind-the-ears when it comes to every demonic invasions.
The thing that I don't like about nuDoomguy is his design. It's just too busy. He'd look better if his suit was simplified a bit.

Not really. It looks a bit ill-fitted. The Classic has the opposite problem that the Praetor suit has; its too simple in comparison to the highly detailed maps. It clashes too much with the artstyle.
I would have preferred an armor that's more similar to Doom 3's armor.

Nudoom is gayer than Warhammer 40K. Players hate getting fellated for no reason. The player wants to be a nobody with the odds stacked against him, beating the enemy through his own abilities. Turning demons into a bunch of bumbling retards and MUH DOOMGUY into a canonical mary sue is a surefire way to make the experience feel like a joke at the expense of the original game.

I don't think anyone is against it but there is still no definitive "doomguy is doom slayer" moment in 2016. Eternal isn't out yet and we don't have all the info. People are assuming a lot based on the art book. I think its pretty obvious they're both meant to fit the same role but the changes in inconsequential things such as his name and origins can't be for no reason. We need an OFFICIAL IN GAME explanation for how a human marine from earth could possibly be the same person as a near demi god with ties to Argent D'nur. The "links" people currently point to are just easter eggs and references. The skin doomguy wears is irrelevant unless it's a base standard skin the initial experience is designed around. The stuff in his room is also irrelevant as the room also contains meme shit like the books with fallout puns and other shit like that. I mean 2016 had arcade cabinets throughout levels despite them making absolutely no sense within the context of the setting. It was just fan service. What we need are not subtle nods to old games. We need eternal to say "listen, fuckface. Doomguy and doom slayer are the same and here's how it makes sense". Until eternal does that, there is no direct link between the 2 characters. I realize that's not what everyone wants to hear but its just objective fact.

I've seen it. We still don't know if that's something that'll change based on the skin YOU CHOOSE to wear or not. What if you choose to wear the zombie skin and the cutscene plays out differently. It’s a very unique kind of character development. In most games you kill hundreds of enemies and that doesn’t factor into their personality. With Doomguy, every kill in every doom game is treated as canon, meaning it reflects onto the character.

The story is this, HELL EXISTS OUTSIDE OF NORMAL LINEAR TIME, Doomguy is stuck in hell since 64 and during that time he receives most of his buffs, later gets captured by Sentinels and fights in an Arena basically as a gladiator, after he mops the floor with everyone and destroys the Arena the Betrayer makes him Praetor suit and Doomguy starts leading a squad of Sentinels.

You kill Icon of sin after a 2 phases boss fight.
