Is he a bad character? Did he kill the Sonic series in retrospect?
Is he a bad character? Did he kill the Sonic series in retrospect?
Well, he was a good character. Like basically all the characters with the exception of Eggman, all of them essentially became parodies of themselves after Colors dropped.
>dude dark version of protagonist
What do you think?
Good in SA2.
Should've stayed dead.
>Did he kill the Sonic series in retrospect?
No, if anyone killed the series it was this fag
No, and no. The Sonic series didn't die until around 2012.
Trick question none of the characters killed the series, Sega did that all on their own with bad game design choices
Eggman did that too. He arguably has it worse than Shadow does.
nigga silver didn’t do shit, he’s more of a symptom of a much larger problem, if anything.
No he was fine in Sonic Adventure 2. He was serious, sad, and tough looking on the outside, (his voice acting reflects this) but he did garner respect for Sonic towards the end of the game and did what's right in Maria's memory.
Its only I'm later games with later voice actors that he became some edgy anti-Sonic anti-hero/villain.
Shadow's apperance in SA2 was perfect, he had an entire character arc and was pretty chill by the end, and best of all he fucking died. If he had just stayed dead like he was supposed to then he'd be one of the most fondly remembered characters of the series, like Gamma.
No, he's the most beloved character aside Sonic.
amy killed the franchise, animal girls let the furries in
can we get game titles per year alongside this, i don't have a encyclopedic knowledge of sonic release dates
You know Sonic 1 was bundled with the Genesis right? Retard.
Eggman has always been a comic relief type villain with moments of genuine threat, and that still happens in modern games. I don't see how he's got it worse than Shadow being flandarized into his edgy fanfiction iteration.
He was alright in Adventure 2 and Heroes. The Shadow game is basically where they killed his character.
>2007
What the fuck happend there for such a gargantuan spike in sales?
Off the top of my head

Mario & Sonic
List was for
i was wondering how another sonic game managed to do as bad as '06, forgot fucking riders and rivals came out the same year. what a massive dip in quality.
>Mario & Sonic
I could've sworn that game came out after Unleashed.
Nope. A full year prior.
Good at first, then stinky.
This is the best answer. Bringing him back after he was supposed to die in SA2 is one thing, but giving him amnesia and throwing his character development out the window was just fucking stupid
Apparently he was always intended to come back, but they brought him back sooner than initially planned because people liked him so much.
Bringing him back at all was a bad decision, but basically the entire way the handled it was wrong
>bring him back immediately, don't even let him be gone for one single fucking game
>don't even bother explaining how he survived, just leave some ambiguous plot thread to be explained in a later game
>give him amnesia, forever dooming his character to a state of arrested development where he becomes an edgy caricature of himself
After he got his memory back, he was great in Battle and Colors, and I liked his friendship with Omega in Chronicles. It’s just that ShTH affected his reputation so much that those games apparently don’t matter. He was alright in Forces, even if he didn’t do much.
The only rival Sonic should have is Knuckles. Shadow is a perfect example of how far the Series has fallen from grace.
Even when Eggman is completely comedic he’s not as pathetic as modern Sonic portrays him as. You’d never see Scratch and Grounder openly insult him to his face constantly like Orbot and Cubot do.
I meant to type 06 instead of Colors, but he was alright in Colors DS
>don't even bother explaining how he survived, just leave some ambiguous plot thread to be explained in a later game
At least we can chalk that up to him being a hedgehog or some shit, seeing Sonic has also survived atmospheric entry. Let's not forget Shadow did not power down from the super form when he fell back on earth.
I never played Battle but you're right, he was actually portrayed great in 06, it's just unfortunate that you can't really appreciate it because it's such an awful story overall. Shadow's individual story isn't so bad (barring the time travel dogshit that has to happen to cross over with the main plot) it's basically just Mephiles trying to tempt him to be evil repeatedly and Shadow's just like "nah, I'm good."
Knuckles can’t be Sonic’s rival when he’s constantly glued to the master emerald.
The Master Emerald basically stopped existing after SA2
Inconsistent gameplay of inconsistent quality has hurt Sonic far more than any one character or plot has
>Scratch and Grounder
The americans always tried to make Eggman more serious and dangerous than he actually was, and that passed on the Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, even with it being a slap stick comedy and Eggman being a comic relief, else they'd stuck with the original japanese design and name.
That's the whole reason why his design and name were changed in promo art during localization, to make him more menacing and less dumb looking pic related.
He is a good character. Should he have stayed dead? Sure, limiting a character's exposure is good way to ensure a quality legacy. However, I actually think they managed to make something good out of him in the end. They saved him from the cringe of his own game and made something respectable out of him. He became the adult in the room to me after all was said and done. He was serious but was not brooding. He had confidence in himself but wasn't a cheeky asshole. He cared about his work and the tasks at hand. He grew up to match his physical age. I always thought that was a neat way to take a character like him. Make him the experienced, mature man. It was kind of mirroring the maturity and feminine cleverness of Rouge.
That's why I disliked how Boom recharacterized him as Vegeta. Not just Vegeta, but pre-character development Vegeta. At least post-Z Vegeta was kind of similar to post-Edgehog Shadow, though Vegeta has a worse temper. But in Boom we basically had to start over with TWO characters, one literally and one figuratively.
His character in Battle is about him looking for more about Gerald’s other projects, meeting Emerl (another one of Gerald’s weapons) and wanting to destroy him so that nobody gets hurt because Emerl is incredibly powerful, and learning that weapons can be more than what they were designed for, and ending with him accepting Maria’s wish fully into his heart and mastering the ability to use chaos control without an emerald. There’s a really good scene where they go up against a Gamma clone and when it goes crazy and loses its mind mid-battle pic related happens and it hits especially hard when the same thing happens to Emerl in the end. Funnily enough, even though Battle was released before Heroes, it canonically takes place after ShTH and even references Omega.
>good in SA2
>Shadow, promise me one thing. That you WON'T try to kill humanity, ok?
No, just mismanaged like everything else. You can do quite a lot by introducing the anti-personality of an existing character. Star Trek did it well with Sisco versus Picard.
To be fair to Shadow she was literally killed by humans who imprisoned him and then when he was revived he didn't remember that part for ages. Nor did he probably know about Gerald robotniks full plans until Gerald revealed them to to world years later due to Robotnik reactivating the space colony ark.
All he knew was that someone he loved like family died because of interfering humans.
He was a good character.
Emphasis on the "was".
Nice cock bro
Hes not bad and was actually interesting. His character was basically fucked up when he got his own game. Even though he was fine in other games, it still stuck with him.
Shadow knew, his memories were just modified by Gerald before he got thrown into the freezer
>NOOO YOU CAN'T HAVE SERIOUS AND EDGY CHARACTERS IN SONIC
Good character when the writing was serious.
Now he's just there because he's popular, but with nothing to do.
Even with all the edge memes Shadow was such a good addition to the cast he stuck and became a fan favorite. Much for the contrary, he gave vitality to the franchise.
The problem currently is that Nu-Sonic Team can't write quite literally any character. It's a problem with nearly the whole cast.
The problem with a lot of characters in this series like Shadow, Blaze and Silver is that they really work best as THE main protagonists of the story, but since that’s not allowed and only Sonic is allowed to be important, they just feel kind of weirdly redundant and like they have nothing to do, because there isn’t much you can do unless you commit to them being stars of the show.
I'm being a little unfair to Shadow, but I did play both Adventure games recently and I was surprised how much I enjoyed the first story over the second game even though I had remembered the second one being better.
>Knuckles just accidentally bumps into crew and travels to space with them since the shards conveniently landed there
>Rouge and Shadow chase down the Tornado just to realize it's heading to their base which Eggman says that it's on the radar anyway
>during the dark side story you can hear Sonic's thoughts during the fake chaos emerald exchange
I don't remember this happening at all
No
He wasn't even responsible for the death of Sonic. There is nothing tied to him that would lead to that conclusion
>HURR DURR SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG!
A spin off game most people wrote off as they waited for the next big Sonic game.
Does Yas Forums like Shadow?
I think Blaze should have a solo game vs Eggman Nega, Shadows rival should be Infinite, and Silver gets to tangle against Future Eggman.
No. No.
He has basically nothing in common with Sonic aside from species and super speed.
I do, unironically.
The shards were only in space because they were ones Knuckles already collected, but they were knocked out of the shuttle- he joined with Sonic and the others to find Rouge who had some of the shards, as well.
And Gerald mentions in his diary after he had gone insane (much more noticeable in the Japanese version) that he has complete control of Shadow's memories. Maybe that wasn't mentioned in the English dub, I don't recall.
>it's basically just Mephiles trying to tempt him to be evil repeatedly and Shadow's just like "nah, I'm good."
Shadow was one of the few characters in that game who wasn't retarded.
Love him. He's second to Knuckles though. It's a shame that both have gone through a great disservice.
Eggman Nega IS future Eggman, he just went to Blaze’s dimension and teamed up with regular Eggman to test his ability, and when he found out how much of a failure his ancestor was, he revealed his true identity in Rivals.
A lot of people consider shadow a poor attempt to add a sense of maturity to the sonic series.
His game was basically just Nu 2000s edgy garbage with a theme song to boot. But now he's way better.
Gerald mentioned how he modified Shadow’s personality, and Rouge even asks Shadow if his memories were even real, which they weren’t. The real memories was the one where Maria asked him to SAVE everyone, but Gerald covered it up until Amy resurfaced it.
Shadow should basically be the Batman of the Sonic series.
I feel like Knuckles fell the hardest from grace, from being the sole protector of the Master Emerald and stopping at nothing to fulfill his duty to being a fucking braindead comic relief just makes me sad.
Though I do like it when he breaks character in the Boom cartoon to drop some redpills now and then
Oh. I never played Rivals so I assumed the two were different.
Blaze and Silver having their own game would be cool. If they wanted a trio they could discover the remains and upgrade G-merl to be their heavy bot.
Of course. Have you seen how many anons back then were wanting Shadow as a Sonic echo in Smash?
This could be fixed by restricting the cast in a more well planned way, opposite of the likes of Forces or 06 which just slap everyone together.
Sonic stays as mc for all games but add say, Blaze and Knuckles in one game, then Shadow and Silver are put for the plot of another game. I'd help balancing out everyone's roles
He's the coolest, excluding Metal Sonic and Omega.
He was in 06 sort of when he was an agent of GUN.
Just wondering, i've been to the general and it seems they hate him.
Gmerl was rebuilt at the end of Advance 3 and lives with Cream and Vanilla now, he just hasn’t shown up outside of the comics yet. Marine is around and she’s got that weird power she used in Rush Adventure that’s apparently as strong as Super Sonic, so she could be the third member.
Shadow brought in a shitton of autism and edgy OCs to the fanbase, but by no means is he himself a bad character. At least not now.
Shut the fuck up
