Oh it runs like absolute garbage. Cutscenes stutter like hell, and it routinely gave me screen freezes. Surprisingly smooth performance otherwise, though.

The fuck? It took me like a minute to download AND install FAR.

Ran just fine on my aging i7 2600 + 1050ti. No freezing as far as I can see.

I had a couple crashes here and there, but what it would to the most often was freeze the monitor even though you could still hear game sounds responding to controller input. I was running it through a 970, and when I say the performance was surprisingly smooth despite that, it's because I never really had to deal with slowdowns or framerate drops, it was really just the sudden freezing and the cinematics being incredibly stuttery in places. Apparently it affects some people a lot more than others.

FAR doesn’t fix the problems, mainly the antialiasing

it’s recommended to turn AA off since it clashes with ambient occlusion, however despite supposedly having its own form of AA baked in (hint: it doesn’t) AO doesn’t fix anything and the game looks like shit, SHIT.

There's nothing wrong with the AA, besides MSAA breaking LOD swapping and causing edge shimmering for the very same reasons why everyone utilizing the now standard Deferred Shading ditched it for.

...and here's it disabled.
The characters hair, the edges of the crates and the Save pod ... all have clear jaggies now, and the shimmering on the move is much more striking.

Also, since the PP-AA is based on SMAA, it looks damn sharp. I'll gladly sacrifice the super heavy MSAA for it + better depth effects.

It's funny, I wouldn't even say that the design of the world is great because it's all just so mundane. It's by far the most generic area design you could expect, an urban area, a deserve, a forest, an amusement part. It only gets "visually creative", so to speak, when the Machines are involved, mainly the Tower, the Copied City, and the Factory, but somehow it all still works, since it's not a story about regular people breaching into some fantasy realm and going into God's Castle in the golden heavens to kill him or something, but it completely centers about humanity and so mundane human things are so prevalent in the area design.
Didn't the original Nier also do something like this, where the final dungeon of the game is a 20th century office building?

Just play it. If you can't play at high resolution it'll always have some issue graphically. iirc ao+aa causes some issue though I can't remember what, so don't use the ao. it looks bad anyway.

Well the parts definitely weren’t cheap so I’m throwing that meme out the window, plus upon comparing they’re pretty powerful parts. I’ve not seen anyone mention AMD when browsing the steam forums or r*ddit so I can only assume it’s not an already existing problem

Have you tried ROLLING BACK drivers?
It's a well known fact by now that AMD's drivers aren't the brightest bulbs in the package, and tend to cause new issues in some titles while fixing others.

Also, apparently various overlays can fuck up ReShade, which the FAR is based on too, so try to disable as many OSDs as possible.

It's fine. I put 80h to it on my aging hardware, pretty steady 60fps at 1200p, all High except MSAA (disable it).

Download the FAR Mod, head first. It improves both performance (lower the Global illumination to ~medium) AND visuals (better SSAO and bloom, proper res-scaling).

What do you mean by OSDs? The only one I have active at any time is the steam overlay, what else is there?

RivaTuner / MSI Afterburner, from the top of my head. Also, both GPU manufacturers got their own tools for casuals (ie. Nvidia Experience + Avil), that can cause problems.

I'd also try manual installation of FAR mod, maybe use a one version older variant at some point. This problem of yours surely is bizarre though; I'd report it to the devs if possible.
